DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
I really think the post-SNL, let's be fair to HRC thing has worn thin, and Obama is pulling away again in national polls. Incidently, I have been getting quite a few survey calls here in Indiana about who I intend to vote for in May. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) Compare it to this time last season. Cabrera >>> Uribe at SS. Quentin >>> Pods. Anderson has improved (better than Erstad / Pods hopefully). Bullpen is better. Vaz and Buehrle has re-estbalished themselves as a good 1-2 punch. But unfortunately there are still guys such as Uribe etc. who still have a starting job which they really shouldn't IMHO. Being the negative S.O.B. that I am, I will counter your cited upgrades: 1. Really we are switching Cabrera for Richar/Iguchi since Uribe will probably getting most of the playing time ... but at another position. 2. I suspect healthy Jerry Owens will move Quetin to the bench a lot when he is healthy. Pods is approximately equal to Owens. 3. Anderson has improved but will probably rarely play. 4. I will say the bullpen IS better. 5. Good 1-2 punch in the rotation. But after that, I only have expectations for Danks. We exchanged Garland for Floyd in the rotation which is a downgrade.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) Not sure of what to make of this vague conversation involving Harry Reid: Sounds like somebody is going to get an offer they can't refuse. -
QUOTE(Wanne @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) If Dye has even a remotely decent season by the deadline (and the Sox aren't in the race)...I think he's gone. Time to move on... All Dye has to do is waived the NTC

WTF White Sox Scalping Their Own Tickets Now?
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Opening day might be the last time their is actual demand for tickets this year aside from the Cubs series. They may as well try to make the money. -
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) BTW, Aaron Rowand just got drilled by a pitch, was laying face down on the ground, and was removed from the game... That's not what I saw. The ball came at Rowand, hit off his head and over the left field wall for a homer. Then, Rowand shot lasers out of his eyes and melted the pitcher.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) No Wasserman? It looks like the two rookies who performed the best at the MLB level for the Sox last year have been demoted. Actually, being left off of this trainwreck of a roster might be a promotion in some twisted way.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) A contract we apparently don't want to waste. Between decimating the minor leages system and the unnecessary contracts (Hall, Uribe, Dye), I wonder if failing this year would take some of the starch out of KW's collar.

More Spring Games? Oh, The Horror!

QUOTE(sf_soxfan @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) Dye singles, first hit of the game for the Sox Does that bring his average to .200 yet? -
QUOTE(Wanne @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Ya know...everybody's got their points on all these moves: Fields/Crede, BA/Owens, Uribe, etc...and it is what it is...but for the life of me I'm still trying to figure out just WHAT THE HELL Toby Hall brings to this team?!? Fourth String 1B.
-
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) That's exactly how I feel---about cutting Phillips and keeping Toby Hall! Phillips earned that roster spot. What has Toby Hall ever done in a White Sox uniform? He didn't do anything last year to earn the bemnefit of the doubt. He looked terrible this spring, and he doesn't even appear to be healthy. He never had his shoulder repaired. Keeping Toby Hall and cutting Phillips is by far the worst roster move of the year so far. Not necessarily disaggreeing, but there are A LOT to choose from.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Didn't we already have this blowout once already? Honestly, the amount of time spent around here on trying to paint Fields as the next Mike Schmidt, and Crede as a never-was-has-been and vice versa is quite astonishing to me. We knew this move was coming a week ago. We also know Owens will be the starting CF. We also know Uribe will be the starting 2b. How about we talk about how this team will lineup against other teams in the month of April, and how Fields, Anderson, and Ramirez might somehow augment the team and help us compete as the season goes on? And nothing pisses me off more than this. We traded a starting pitcher for a SS for 1 year, and we just move our fat goat to another position. Brilliant!

QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) why is rebuilding such a bad word to this ownership? Rebuilding = Empty seats or no $$$

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) What I don't get is that we brought in Swisher for our new "strategy" of OBP and making pitchers work. However, now we have a CF, 3b, and 2b who are some of the worst players in baseball in terms of drawing walks. Our 3-4-5-6 hitters should do a great job at making pitchers work, but the rest of the offense will probably even things out by how aggressive they are. In other words same team, different year.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) It looks like we're going to have Crede at 3rd base, Owens in CF, and Uribe at 2nd base. So much for hoping our offensive would significantly improve this season. If Anderson doesn't make the team, then I'm really going to question the way Ozzie has handled a particular group of players that have been in our minor league system. You really thought the offense would improve? By the way, you may want to change the date in your sig to reflect the next failure.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Bourgeois, Carrasco, and Phillips also cut. Looks like we have a deadweight back-up catcher again. That is somewhat of a shame. Though he have a logjam in OF and 2B for better or worse, I kind of like Bourgeois. Like Buehrle, his name is hard to spell, is certain to be mutilated by Soxtalk members, and his name has lots of vowels.

Time To Shoot Off The Seamen
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to knightni's topic in 2008 Season in Review
I thought the whole reason the off season was a victory was because we got 2 guys that can hit lefties in Swisher and O.C. I would think some of the other guys would make adjustments too. /green as hell -
Time To Shoot Off The Seamen
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to knightni's topic in 2008 Season in Review
Starting pitching is going to be sooooooooo bad this year. I like to believe it is only spring training and it does not count, but there is not even a sense of progress. And there I go again, b****ing, and all doom and gloom ... -
I might be the biggest BA basher here, and even I think he needs to be the starting CF.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) I'm going to look at the bright side for now. After watching the game today, I'm worried about JD. He looks baaaaad. He could turn it around, but if his legs aren't under him again this year...we've at least got options to sit him early and give him time to get right. And while Quentin looks good, I think that giving him at least a month to get back in baseball shape is not going to be a bad thing. I agree, but I think Dye and his approx 10 mil salary might have to be sitting in a wheel chair in order Ozzie to seriously think about sitting him for younger guys. -

Between Quenten, BA, Swisher, Owens, Dye, and potentially Ramirez, our outfield situation is suddenly very crowded. While this is certainly a better situaion than playing Andy Gonzalez in the OF, I also share the sentiment that I wish we could move Dye to let the young guys play. Dam NTC.
