  1. IIRC, Dye never really looks good until about May or June. He always seems to look extra slow with the bat until the weather warms up. I am not sure if data supports this. That said, I still think resigning him will be looked at as a mistake. On the positive side, we are seeing a lot from our young players, ie Ramirez, Quinton, Swishers, Anderson, and even Owens. I am just worried that they will not play enough this year because of a "win now" mentality and salary considerations.
  2. Wasn't there one talk of Rally Crede shirts and Bumperstickers produced by Soxtalkers? Speaking of which, what is going to replace the Rally Crede after this year?
  3. I could see WSI members letting the air out of tire of cars with Soxtalk bumperstickers.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) Yeah, why not. At least it keeps all anti-Cubs stuff in one thread. I just hope we don't get posters coming into the thread asking us why do we care. Standard response to them: We like baseball, and hate the Cubs, aside from the Sox, no better team to pull for then the Brewers.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) There's a reason this is a 4th place team. I look forward to joining you in the Brewers thread this year. Last year when we started the Brewers thread, they fell apart like cheap toilet paper. Is starting another thread like it such a good idea?
  6. Aside from starting pitching outside of Buehrle and Vaz, the bullpen outside of Jenks, the offense clicking, and defense, I really don't think we have much to worry about this year.
  7. That second round match of Jay Mariotti vs. Gary, Indiana ... if only it were real.
  8. Dam Dam Dam it! I really was hoping Uribe was gone.
  9. If it takes getting Uribe put back in jail to keep him out of the starting line up, I am all for it.
  10. Actually, taking Haren out of the A's uniform is what makes him suck. Now we own his ass.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) Players in MLB last year with 10+ wins and an ERA over 5: Jeremy Bonderman Jamie Moyer Paul Maholm Dave Bush Kevin Millwood Dontrelle Willis Claudio Vargas Mike Mussina Mark Hendrickson Kameron Loe Josh Towers Byung-Hyun Kim Adam Eaton. Lucky, every one of them. And there is a difference between being lucky and good.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) I will go on record that there's no way he has an ERA better than 5.00 this season. If he makes a minimum of 10 starts, and has an ERA better than 5.00, I will never post on this site again. You have even less faith in him than I do.
  13. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) Wins are a team stat. Why don't you judge him on ERA, IP, WHIP, K? But show me a 10 game winner with a 5.50 ERA, I will show you a lucky man. (this is not to say that Floyd's ERA is or will be 5.50).
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) There's a lot of people who thought Gavin Floyd sucked long before spring training and this one particular outing. Maybe he does have a dead arm, but he pitched 7 innings up until today and gave up more runs than strikeouts. For a guy who supposedly looks so great, and has top-of-the rotation stuff, its not so impressive. True.
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) At least you are enjoying yourself. I'd be happier if we had Freddy Garcia back.
  16. I will go on record and bet with anybody that Floyd does not win 10 games this year.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) But one spring training start makes you worthless. This is the real Gavin Floyd today. The guy the Phillies could not wait to dump. This is what you need to get used to while you are sitting at home in your Gavin Floyd jerseys, telling yourself that he is gonna be ok.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) I honestly don't care how his spring went....if he's still throwing 90 mph with little command, he's going to get cranked in the AL. Yes. A few good outings does not make you not suck. Although he can now join Brian Anderson in the STHOF.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) Jesus, you all are pathetic. He's had a great spring entering this start and had a bad outing. Big freaking deal. Whaaa...whaaa.whaaaaa. Wake me up when the season starts. Did somebody say "Jesus"?
  20. QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) i disagree about our 3-4-5, danks and contreras haven't looked this brutal in spring, gavin is the one i'm worried about Ok, a 3 man rotation, Danks can win 12 games. But Contreras might be worse than Floyd lloks today when he faces an AL team with good hitters.
  21. I really can't believe some people drank the Kool-aid that Ozzie and KW were serving this spring about Gavin. Unless the Sox go to a 2 man rotation, they are so f***ed.
  22. Realizing that it is early and this is the first game I have watched, some hitters look like 2007 hasn't ended yet. Lots of big cuts for no particular reason.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) So Hawk said KW has put together a better team than the year before in each year he's been GM. I love Hawk, but has he paid attention the last year and a half? I think the expectations are based on the fact that things could not possibly be as bad as last year.
