  1. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) So your saying that it doesn't matter to the Cubans and the Dominicans and the Venezuelans and the Japanese to represent their country??? GMAFB. The sport of baseball doesnt have a Olympic team so this is all they get. I'm sorry to say but Americans are some of the least patriotic people on the Earth. As an athlete, the greatest thing you can achieve is to represent your country in your sport, no matter what the occasion. Not being an American myself, I know what it means to have pride in your countries sports teams. In 2002, when Yugoslavia won the FIBA Basketball World Championships and I was there to witness it live, it was one of the greatest moments I ever have and ever will experience. It was by far the proudest I have ever been as a Serbian. Americans are spoiled....I am sorry but this is just my perspective. To argue that representing your country doesn't matter is absurd. So when other countries start shooting guns in the air and rioting after their soccer team loses, are tey more patroitic? I would like to think that there are better ways than sports to represent your country. If not, should I only pull for Americans on the White Sox?
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Dude, they are representing their country in a tournament. This is the greatest honor an athlete can achieve. And you cant compare the XFL with the WBC because the XFL was actually a league. It would be like comparing the NFL to the CFL. The best comparison is with the World Baseketball Championships. The player has the right to choose and after just winning a world series, they have a little leeway. Personlly, I have no problem with it. Of course, I would be pissed if they got hurt but I would be pissed if they got hurt in ST too. It's moot IMO. But, to each his own. There is no right answer or choice. Maybe XFL is a bad example. But what if Jordan or a Dream Teamer got hurt in the Olympics. Even that example is a stretch because the Olympics matter.
  3. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) it dosent even have to be a white sox player getting injured to make this worthless Agreed. COuld you imagine how much Steinbrenner would b**** if a Yankee got hurt. Any team (the CUBS0 would use that injury as an excuse the whole year. In the case of the Cubs, they would name a curse after it.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) ^ That's about it. You just never know what can happen so you really can't question the WBC. Same as the basketball world championships. It's not in our hands. Get over it. Like I said in the Freddy G thread, any player would be honored to play for their country. If the get injured, sorry. Whose to say they wouldn't get injured in Spring Training. Whose to say they dont fall down the steps at their home and break an arm. You just never know, it's a moot point for anyone to argue. Like Greasy said, congrats to Tad, Freddy, and Mark. The problem I have with this is that these players signed a countract to play with an MLB team. If an NFL player played for the XFL (I know it doesn't exist anymore) and it ended his career, he is screwed. While the XFL or arena football at least pays money, what does WBC get you besides a longer season? A lot of people can lose there job or money if they get injured doing something not part of there job. It is a bad proposition. ... But that's just my opinion.
  5. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...content=country the wbc is just a bad idea.... Who the hell is gonna watch this. I hate to sound un-patroitic, I don't give a rat's ass who wins this stupid torney. I only care that the White Sox pitchers are healthy for the whole season. I somebody gets hurt in the WBC, I hope we see a major backlash.
  6. That means we will be seeing a lot more of that half troll/half man looking thing named Paul Byrd. I hope Thome and Anderson can hit him, because otherwise he may have a Joe Mays type hold on us for 2 years.
  7. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) I must be totally missing the boat with Furcal. Before this season, I saw a guy that played defense very similar to Jose Valentin, with fielding percentage included. I also see a guy that happened to have his best year defensively in a contract year. I also see a guy thats already 28 and should have been in his prime for the past 2-3 years, yet none of the season's would put him anything more than slightly above average at the SS position. I see a guy that in his 4 full years in the majors is averaging 12 homers and 56 rbi's with over 600 at-bats each year in a potent Braves lineup. I must be missing something big here if teams are offering him anything over 6-7 million a year. If you missed the boat, I must be dry-docked with you. I think teams have Carlos Beltran fever, paying more for potential than what he has consistently done.
  8. I hope the Card get him. Anything to make sure they keep dominating the division over the Cubs.
  9. I thought for sure Wells would be traded to Old Country Buffet for a bucket of BBQ ribs.
  10. I love the retro Brewers Jerseys. IMO, one of the top five uniforms in baseball history. I don't think I realized the logo on the hat was M B til the mid 80's, but hell most people still don't know. I guess I will have to go on a Sunday for my yearly trip to Miller Park.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) I don't get that. I like the UD - the views are great from the right parts. We got split seasons in Row 1, section 522, rather than get a far-back lower deck set. Agreed. The only thing I dislike about the UD is that there are less stores and no hall of fame for when I take out of town guests to a game. That said, a victory is just as good in the upper deck.
  12. What a glorious day!!!!! ... now who replaces Geoff Blum?
  13. Love Ya Frank!!! While I don't want to you to play for another team, please promise me A) You will NEVER play for the Cubs under any circumstances B ) Wear out your former team at the plate. NEXT STOP COOPERSTOWN
  14. If the Sox sign Myers, who will have an avatar like this with a Sox hat on it?
  15. Cocky SOB with your math 12 million. Would 15 on a 4/60 year deal. Still too high, too many years.
  16. It is unfortunate that banishing Marte to Montreal is no longer an option.
  17. I like Paulie, but paying 5yr/60mil is grossly overpaying Paulie. I realizing that this is an unpopular sentiment and there is not a thing on the market to replace him with, but reality is often hard to face. That is an average of $12 mil per year for 5 years. An elite group of player make that much or more, and I am not sure Paulie compares since his is such a streaky hitter. But hell, the Mets paid more for Beltran who had one good year and one awesome playoffs and that's it.
  18. As long as it is not 2003 Loaiza, I could care less. He had one good year. Thank God it was with the White Sox.
  19. A three point cushion is PLENTY for the Bears
  20. Your Title: Cubs Still Not Learning My Response: Cubs are Baseball's Special Education Team
  21. I think we owe Marlins fans something for 2003. Something besides the bronze statue of Steve Bartman in CF.
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) They have a good shortstop prospect in Joaquin Arias so they could just move Michael Young to second base. Soriano would need to be re-signed and would get a lot of money via arbitration, maybe around $9 million. They need to spend their money on pitching. Soriano is one of the most overrated players in baseball. Thanks. Didn't know about the Rangers SS prospect. Also, I agree that Soraino is overrated (Yankee syndrome) and will be sickly overpaid. I would encourage the Cubs to do it with Soriano's K's and defense. Welcome back Sammy! Will Soriano blow kisses to the bleach bums though?
  23. Another question to ask: Why do the Rangers always seem to be trying to trade Soriano?
  24. Soriano = Sosa returns to Cubs. Offense, K's, no hustle, no D. The Furcal stuff sounds like Grade A Bulls***. Could they be that desperate to one up the Sox?
