Sheffield for Freddy?
ESPN listed the teams that were still in the hunt for Sheffield, and the Sox were not one of them. The Cubs, Astros, Padres, Tigers and Rangers have expressed interest.

The clubhouse of the century?
Thomas at 1B and Bonds DH.

Trade Thome, Konerko, and Podsednik, then sign Bonds (DH), Sosa (LF), and Palmeiro (1B).

More bad vibes regarding Brian Anderson
QUOTE(cgaudin @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) McCarthy is way overrated, we could get good product for him. Trade him now, while he still has value. McCarthy might be overrated for some, but overall he comes in as the #5 starter, with a very low salary which increases his value tenfold. If the Sox move him the payroll will be too high and the Sox will get instantly older. As a team you have to bring in youth every year, otherwise you will hit a wall where all your players are old veterans making way too much money. Would you rather have Garcia for $10 million or Dye, Iguchi, Jenks, and McCarthy for the same price?

Moises Alou....a solution
I don't think spelling Thome vs LHP is the biggest priority for the Sox. Not for 4-5 million either. Iguchi just needs to hit LHP better as a RH Batter and the Sox need to address the leadoff spot. If the Sox get Roberts to leadoff and play LF, he will help against LHP as he batted .292 vs LHP in 2006.

BA Speaks Out
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 08:32 AM) And better starting pitching and better defense and a better left fielder and a better pen and a ..... We just need the other teams to be worse because they will all be tired from the playoffs like the Sox were in 2006.

White Sox Sign Outfielder Luis Terrero
QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 06:15 AM) Mack isn't worth the $2.75 mill he'll make in 2007. Esp. when the sox can use that money towards upgrading at SS, LF or CF, and the bullpen. IMO, a 4th OFer /late inning defensive replacement for 3 OF spots, who can excel on defense, steal some bases, hit LHP, play small ball, is more valuable to the 2007 sox than Mack when you take into account salary. We all bought into the "MAck can play 3b, 2b, and all 3 OF spots". We do have to remember that was with the Pirates, and in the NL. Seeing how little of those spots he played in 2006, Ozzie and staff must not have been very impressed with him at any place other than LF. Based off what Joe Cowley is saying, the bench is staying put (Mack, Cintron, Ozuna, and Gload): He does mention Gload as the only player from the bench that "might go" because KW feels Gload could start on other teams.

Remaining Sox players depart La Guaira team
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) Trade all of them. Right now. They're following the ways of Satan himself, Brian Anderson. They call him "Diablo". QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) Wait, injury to Logan? Haven't heard anything about this. This is all it said: "Logan has returned home with stiffness in his arm".

Sarge Jr.
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) What was confusing about Figgins this season, he had a .321 OBP as the leadoff hitter in 131 games, and then when he was moved to the 9 spot (last in the season IIRC), in 17 games he had splits of .352/.410/.593 (albeit it's a very small sample size). I know Podsednik is out of favor with the Sox, but would Figgins be that big of an upgrade?

White Sox Sign Outfielder Luis Terrero
So if the Sox are counting on him making the team, either Anderson or Mackowiak are gone. Let the KW games begin. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 01:11 AM) Could not agree more. It can be argued that Mackowiak was the top bench player in all of baseball last season, a guy like that is not easily replaced. Could this mean Mack starting in LF and Terrero as a Defensive replacement OF?

Francisco Liriano out for 2007
Holy crap, that is a huge blow to Minnie. He never should have came back and pitched in 2006. I don't know the stats, but there are only a few pitchers that came back and pitched well after the surgery. It is definitely possible, and he is still young, so I am sure his outlook is much better than most.

More bad vibes regarding Brian Anderson
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) Lets change this up a bit. Will Brian Anderson be our starting CF next year yes or no? and why I say yes they will give him another chance at turning it around. How many chances did KW give Rowand before he finally developed into a solid player? They gave him like 3-4 chances before finally keeping him as our starting CF. In 2002 they demoted him and aqcuired Lofton. In 2003 he started, but then was demoted because of poor offense and they aqcuired Carl Everett. In 2004 he finally developed into a solid player and 2005 he broke out defensively and got the job done offensively. I think KW has patience with his players, however, this time i don't think he'll be as hesitant to make a move to replace Anderson if he still is struggling by the AS break. Patience has payed off with Garland, Rowand and Crede. But will it pay off with Anderson? Is he a bust? He has 4 months to prove that he is worthy to play every day in CF. Based off that scenario, I think it would be highly probable if someone else other than Anderson is starting in CF in 2007. From a lineup perspective, you have to figure Uribe or Anderson will not be starting or on the team next year. There were too many automatic outs at the bottom of the order. The one thing Anderson has in his favor is his salary/age. He provides payroll relief for other positions. The same goes for B-Mac. So unless the Sox can find a fairly cheap alternative, Anderson will be back.

Let's Rekindle the Crawford Talks
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) WHat I expect to happen based on reading articles and from your awesome money charts is for KW to trade Garcia (whome has the highest value out of the 3 I mentioned) and most likely Uribe as his defense attracts many teams around the league for a guy like Michael Young (a guy Hahn, KW and Ozzie absolutely LOVE). Texas needs pitching also and with a defensive shortstop who is cabable of hitting 20+ HRs a season they wouldn't be getting screwed from this deal in any stretch of the imagination. Yeah, that would actually be a great deal for Texas too. Adding Young and someone like Roberts for Uribe and Podsednik would be sweet. The only thing that would mess something like that up would be the salaries. Young is only due $3.5 for 2007, while Garcia and Uribe would make $14.15. That is a $10.65 difference. Hard to see someone like Texas taking that much salary on.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) Or to the Blue Jays, along with McCarthy, for Vernon Wells. Wells would be the only player I would be willing to trade McCarthy for.

Phillies decline Rowand's option
I am surprised both sides are haggling over such a small amount. $3.25 to $5.00. From the player's perspective, it shows how much the team actually values him, which is not much.

More bad vibes regarding Brian Anderson
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 02:22 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Hopefully the stomach ailment is nothing serious. On the other hand, the countdown until the Sox get a new centerfielder is about 15 days and countin. Sounds like Montezuma's revenge. Didn't they tell him not to drink the water down there? From reading that snippet from Gonzalez, it sure seems like Anderson is on the way out.

Crede doesn't get the gold glove.
On some of the positions, it came down to popularity and probably who made the playoffs. The regular season awards should be determined before the playoffs.

Let's Rekindle the Crawford Talks
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) Thats what I figured. I think out of Mack and Cintron, Mack goes, but I could see Cintron moving as well. Nice chart. I can't wait for things to really get going.... Yeah I know, as the temperatures drop the Hot Stove heats up. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) I think what we will all find out at the end is that KW will try to turn whatever tradeable assets we have, including one of the Buerhle, Freddy, Vazquez group, into some younger pitching. He was sniffing around Baltimore a bit last year with bedard in the offseason, and with Cabrera in the trade deadline time. Bedard will be almost unatainable, but a guy like Cabrera is something in KW's ilk, great arms no control. A guy with phenominal stuff, but has problems getting the best out of it. This is what KW is famous for. After last years debacle KW realizes more than anything that pitching is the key ingrediant, not offense. He is also trying to build a repeatable champion. Something that gets refreshed throughout the years. Trading guys for cusp prospects that may need a change of scenery. I think that KW will wind up shocking us with some arms more than bats this offseason. I agree. KW is becoming a master at these type acquisitions. Jenks, Thornton and MacDougal were classic KW.

Let's Rekindle the Crawford Talks
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) Nice chart RME. However, any reason Cintron is off the list, or just because you think he will be traded? He probably will stay around, but I figured if the Sox were looking to drop some payroll and bring up someone from the system, they could save there. Ozuna and Gload are cheap, so I figure they will be back. Mackowiak is another option if the Sox find something cheaper. If you throw Cotts in there, that would make 5 openings at the very most for 2007, and only one starter (LF). That seems very reasonable with the payroll.
