  1. QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) I think somebody needs to clarify who Roy is. I mean, are we talking Roy Rogers, Roy Orbison, Roy Clark, Roy from Siegfried And Roy, Roy Munson? I mean, there are a lot of "Roy"'s out there for crying out loud. Try Roy Hobbs.
  2. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) This is a different creature away from his dome. At home, 2.95 ERA. Away from his dome, 5.20 ERA. Lets wreck this guy, and win this in a laugher. One Time!!! Blackburn against Sox: 5.67 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, .333 BA
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) I just don't think his .315 OBP and .290 AVG gets it done, nationally. He's a close #2, though. Yeah Longoria's .272 AVG and 122 K's in 448 ABs is going to hurt him nationally too.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) Alexei, Grand Slam number 4 would be great. Yes it was!
  5. Detroit took 2 of 3 in Minnesota two weeks ago, so I think we have a good shot to do the same. Besides for their last game vs TB (after TB clinched a playoff spot), the Twins allowed 7, 11, 8, 6, 12 over their last 5 games. This gives me some hope.
  6. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 05:31 AM) Its a real simple formula. If we keep winning and worrying about our own games, then the Twinks wont matter. This one will be sweet if we can follow through and win this. Especially after the 90 loss season, and the pre-season predictions of the battle for 5th place. The Sox need to take care of business against the Yanks and Royals. We can have the division locked up by the time we visit Minnesota.
  7. Liriano just got tagged for 8 runs in 2.2IP and didn't even make it out of the 3rd vs the Indians. GO INDIANS (until the last series of the year)!
  8. Huge loss for the Twins with Liriano on the mound. The Sox really need to take advantage tonight.
  9. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) Boston, 21-9 last 30 games...if Drew, Lowell, Beckett come back healthy they are the best. The Angels are 8-1 vs Boston. Also, they are 20-10 in their last 30, and are only 8-7 vs winning teams during that period. Not that impressive. We will see where they are after playing their next 13 against TB and TOR.
  10. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) yeah, me too. what a genius! but, going in, you had to think they were the best in the division. Yeah, but in this case, it was great to be wrong.
  11. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) Indians are going to walk away with this division. I like this one.
  12. Every home loss kills the Twins odds. I know a loss is a loss, but they have such an advantage at home. Nice to see the Tigers get one there. Hopefully they can take 2, because KC will probably get swept there.
  13. Does anyone know JV's ERA by inning breakdown? The 5th has to be brutal.
  14. Huge series. It can put us in a good position for both the Division and the Wild Card with a series win. Matsuzaka actually pitches worse at home. Hopefully we can take advantage of his 1.51 WHIP in Fenway.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) I'm saying we take two out of three from Boston. I really believe we are flat out better than them now that they no longer have Ramirez. I wouldn't say we are better because Ramirez is gone. Bay is actually outproducing Manny and is currently the best hitter on their team - and he plays defense too. We can beat Boston because we are a better team.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 06:58 AM) White Sox fans say similar things.... 1) We can't hit lefties, rookies or no-name junk/garbage pitchers 2) Ozzie plays the bench too much (haven't heard that much this year!) 3) Ozzie, like Gardenhire according to Twins' fans, plays favorites too much (or turns on players that don't seem to fit the Twins' mold, like Lamb, who was just released)...the Twins have actually wasted quite a bit of money on Lamb, Craig Monroe, Juan Rincon, Livan Hernandez, etc. It's not like the Twins' GM to waste $15 million dollars of a fairly low payroll 4) White Sox play dumb baseball 5) Our fifth starter sucks 6) Griffey/Konerko/Cabrera/Swisher suck to varying degrees 7) Why doesn't KW get more help for the bullpen 8) We're too slow, too old, can't bunt, can't advance runners, can't create or manufacture runs, hit too many homers, etc. You forgot the one about Ozzie leaving a pitcher in 1-2 batters too long to put the game out of reach or where he takes a perfectly good pitcher out only to have the new pitcher get smashed.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) You know how to avoid a tie? Win the whole.f***ing.thing. That is the best idea yet.
  18. Here is a good link about the tie-breaker rules: http://www.baseball-reference.com/about/division_ties.shtml
  19. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) tied by percentage? huh? lol i was under the assumption that we will have played the same amount of games at that point, as the twins. if that's the case: 3 game series vs twins, 1 game lead. lose 2 of 3: game 1 win = 2 game lead game 2 loss = 1 game lead game 3 loss = tied for first we would have the same WPCT as the twins. If the Twins win that series, the season series would be tied (first tiebreaker), but they would have a better division record than us which would give them the tiebreaker if we ended the season with the same record. The point is we need to leave that series with at least a 2 game lead since we play Cleveland for 3 while Minnesota plays KC for 3. I would hate to tie Minnesota, then lose the tiebreaker for the Division and have Boston win the WC. That would be hard to take.
  20. QUOTE (almagest @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 08:20 AM) Jon Garland this year: W-L ERA WHIP BB-K HR 11-8 4.49 1.466 49-72 20 So basically, his peripherals are worse this year than every other year except his rookie year (ERA+ of 95 is the lowest since his rookie year of 78), but his ERA is decent, and he has a decent record. Something tells me we'd be pretty unhappy with Jon if he were still here, given the numbers he's posted for a very good team that plays in a pitcher's park for 81 games. I didn't realize Garland's WHIP was that high. Also, looking at his monthly splits, he has only had one really good month, with three bad months. Post-ASB: W-L ERA WHIP BAA 3-2 5.31 1.51 .316 We would be calling for his head if he pitched like that during the pennant chase. Back to OC. The guy is not a superstar (sub-.700 OPS), but he is not that bad either. He has a 16.9 VORP (5th best on team) which is 16th in the league for SS. Not great, but not bad either. He just doesn't seem like a likeable player.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 11:57 PM) Thanks Angels for cooling off Minnie and you M's for winning close games. Wouldn't it be nice if the Twins went to s***? It could happen, look at the Indians on the opposite end of the spectrum. They've won nine in row. Maybe Minnie will lose many in a row. I can hope. Cleveland also has a very easy schedule until September 15th. They have 7 against KC, 4 against BAL, and 3 against SEA during that span. The only team with a winning record that they play is us for 3. They may be a lot closer in the division around the 15th.
  22. I just don't understand how he can have 42 multi-hit games, yet his averages floats around .270. Also, I didn't even realize he had 18 SBs.
  23. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) if we win just 1 game in the twink-dome, we'll have only lost 1 game in the standings to them, which means if we enter that series with a 1 game lead, we could lose two of three and still be tied for first heading into cleveland Tied by percentage, but they get the tiebreaker then. We are up in the season series 8-7. So 1-2 puts us both at 9-9 for the season series. The next tie breaker is against Divisional opponents where we are both currently tied at 36-21. That means if they beat us 2 of 3, they are ahead by the next tie breaker with a 38-22 record compared to our 37-23 record. Each team has a total of 15 divisional games left, so that series will more than likely settle it. The Sox need to win that series to guarantee themselves the first tiebreaker.
