QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) I was thinking RBI vs failed RBI, rather than RBI out of potential RBI, thus: 1st AB: 2 RBI, 0 LOB (they scored on the HR) 2nd AB: 0 RBI, 4 LOB (the 3 guys on base plus the batter) But either way would work. I wouldn't prefer simple RBI per AB because it punishes a guy for being on a poor offensive team. I agree that OPS w/ runners on is a very good indicator, probably the best measurement for productive clutch hitting. However, it would give credit for a guy getting an opposite field single with just a runner on first who doesn't score. Again, that is a valuable achievement, but I was looking for a simple stat that says how well a guy gets runs across the plate when he has the opportunity, nothing more nothing less (I think that was what the basic RBI stat was created for in the first place). But yeah, this all could result in a case of stat overload. SFF Got it, but it would seem like the first 2 would be a successful opportunity, thus a 2 for 2 or 100% efficiency, then the 0 for 4 would bring the efficiency down to 2 of 6 or 33%. Otherwise at first it would be 2 for 0, or it would at least seem that way. Every AB, whether someone was on or not would be an opportunity. I do like AVG with Runners on because that is all the batter can really do is get a hit. He can't help a slow player score from 2nd on a single, that is out of his control. So should he be punished for hitting a double and the guy on first doesn't score?

The Baseball Analyst - "They're a terrific team"

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) The bullpen ERA ranking is weighed heavily by their numbers from earlier this year, when Linebrink was healthy and Thornton and Logan were all pitching better. Getting Linebrink back will help. Any word yet on when that might be? You could say the same thing about the offense. Just think of their numbers if they were not so bad early on. -
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) I can see it now "How will the Yanks and the Red Sox do in 2009!!!!" "Oh and the Chicago White Sox won the World Series today....." Oh, there we are, in the little circle at the top. yet, the next year:

Outscored Seattle 33-8 in a 3 game series (using only 24 innings on offense). Total destruction. Great to see this team taking care of business against teams they are supposed to beat. ARam is on fire. PK, KGJ, Uribe, and Swish seem to be heating up. Hard to believe we score 15 runs without Thome and Dye while CQ goes hitless.

Did Paulie do that to ensure KGJ could score? Ho hum, another 10 run game. -
QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) How about an RBI efficiency stat where you divide a players RBI by the number of players (plus the batter himself) who did not score on his at bat? For example, if a hitter hits a two run home run and then strikes out with the bases loaded, his RBI efficiency would be 2/4, or 0.500. I wish there were a way to look up each player's season LOB. If there were I would love to calculate this. SFF Wouldn't it be 2/6 since you would be counting the batter as well? OPS with Runners On seems to be good enough for this type of situation (Quentin has a 1.111 with Runners On, which is Nintendo-like). I am sure if you just took RBI and divided by AB, you would get a pretty good indicator of efficiency (very raw).

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) The short answer: Just walk in. Anyone at the game can go to the bullpen bar, just walk down the ramps over there, or go in that gate. spending a little too much time there?

Congrats on the AL Central- From a Twins Fan
RME JICO replied to 1987-1991's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yet he fails to mention that the Twins have to play 24 games out of their final 38 on the road. or how different the rotation is away from Minnesota: Blackburn (2.95 ERA at home, 4.48 away) Baker (3.23 ERA at home, 4.46 away) Slowey (3.47 ERA at home, 4.40 away) Perkins (3.91 ERA at home, 4.60 away) Liriano (1.50 ERA at home, 10.64 away) but that won't matter I guess. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 08:43 AM) Anyone read Joe Sheehan's article on picking the AL MVP @ Baseball Prospectus? I am not a subscriber, but I'd love to hear who he went with.... Since it is BP, they will probably use their VORP rating as a discriminator: 1. ARod - 56.3 2. Kinsler - 54.8 3. Sizemore - 51.4 4. Huff - 49.2 5. Quentin - 48.1 6. Bradley - 47.4 7. Youkilis - 46.3 8. Hamilton - 45.5 9. Mauer - 42.3 10. Roberts - 41.6 With Texas, Cleveland, and Baltimore out of the running, it looks like it would be between ARod, CQ, and Youkilis.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 06:18 AM) Hamilton has really gone into a second half swoon. Post all-star break he is hitting .279 with 7 homers and 19 RBI in 104 ABs. Compare that to Carlos who is .347 with 12 homers and 25 RBI in 98 ABs. His post ASB OPS is 1.238 compared to .913 for Hamilton. With the brutal Texas summer sapping the Rangers, and Kinsler being out, expect Hamiltons numbers to keep sliding. Kinsler's injury will have the biggest impact on Hamilton's numbers. He won't have the same RBI opportunities as before and the pitchers won't be pitching from the stretch so much against him.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 03:00 AM) I think you do with Uribe if you plan on him being the starter at 3B, SS or 2B next year for the White Sox. If you want to bring him back as a utility player again, that's another matter. Then I think we should let him see if he can find a starting job somewhere else in the league. With Crede, I think you risk offering arbitration because Boras will want to take him out into the market no matter what. Of course, the obvious danger is that nobody bites and we get "stuck" with him for one season...and he's either non-productive or a constant distraction (about his future and trying to get another contract at the end of 2009) to the team. That's the risk. I don't think it's worth the risk that he comes back to offer arbitration if he's only a Type B. For a Type A player like Cabrera, you definitely will take the draft picks in return. Uribe will be on the Sox in 2009, probably at SS with Ramirez staying at 2B and Fields/Crede at 3B. There is not going to be a lot of demand for a 3B who has only played in 137 games over the last 2 years, is 30 with a bad back, who has a lifetime OPS of .750, with declining defensive skills.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 04:28 AM) PLAYOFFS ODDS REPORT AccuScore ran 10,000 simulations of the remainder of the 2008 baseball season – and so few of them showed scenarios in which the Angels didn't make they playoffs, they simply rounded up to 100 percent. The rest of the AL playoff race has three spots for four teams, with the Blue Jays – currently in fourth place in the AL East – actually a better longshot than the Yankees. Aside from the Cubs, who have the NL Central locked up, the race is wide open. Milwaukee, likely the wild-card team, is actually in the second-best position, according to AccuScore, and the Mets and Diamondbacks (actually, not true, Dodgers are favored 57/43% over AZ) are favorites in the East and West. American League Los Angeles Angels 100 percent Tampa Bay Rays 94.9 percent Boston Red Sox* 69.9 percent Chicago White Sox 67.6 percent Minnesota Twins 57.0 percent New York Yankees 5.4 percent Toronto Blue Jays 3.8 percent More reasons to be nervous...from yahoo.com/sports (Passan) That was before we beat Seattle last night and Minnesota lost. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 06:02 PM) Very nice plays by Uribe this inning....Ramirez has to learn how to dive. I really think the idea of putting him at SS is a disaster waiting to happen. For some reason I think Uribe is the starting SS for the Sox in 2009 with Ramirez sticking at 2B. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) Washburn really is the perfect hitter for Brian Anderson's swing. It's too bad he didn't get the start. Edit: to not play in place of PK or Swisher, of course! Your veiled threats always bring the best out. Please mention how Fields should be playing so Uribe goes off.
