QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) Washburn really is the perfect hitter for Brian Anderson's swing. It's too bad he didn't get the start. Nick Swisher says hello. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) I already posted this. I think he should have done the two distinct stances of Jurassic Carl depending on the count. Don't you mean extinct?

QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) well even tho i still love the guy (it's like when someone in your family does something bad... and ya still technically love 'em) i feel like i should probably retire the sig. No way, it it more original this way. Just line thru the 08 and put 12.

Since we're talking all-time favorite Sox players...

QUOTE (forrestg @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) I just though about how tall Alexei is. He's 6'3'.. That would be tall enough to be a first baseman and could you imagine the range we would gain putting Getz at second and Ramirez at first.. Ramirez, Getz, Cabrera and Juan at third. We then could put Anderson in center and use Wise in right field.. Now that some speed no one would expect that line up. Oh we would use jd as our dh. Just a thought............................. I am not making the connection between the height of Ramirez and his range at 1B.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) ps i really need to change my sig... Why?

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) That could be another reason the bored has "slown" down, if it even has. Possibly not as many people care about post counts as they did a few years ago. There were some people in the past that posted just to post and brought nothing to the topic, just an "I agree" or something to add another post. I agree.

I hate to dig up old threads, but I didn't want to start another CQ MVP thread with this one already out there. It looks like Kinsler is going to the DL, which will kill a huge portion of Hamilton's RBI opportunities. This gives CQ a great chance to close the gap in the one stat that Hamilton leads in.

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) to me there is nothing more d.b.-ish in the world of message boards than criticizing a person over their post count. this is only slight ahead of questioning someone's fan-hood when they are critical of the team. the term "true fan" is wack. Post count seems to be fairly important to some people. I remember when there was a possibilty that the board would reset and all post counts would be lost. That was met with a lot of resistance just on the fact of losing post counts. The thread is lingering around here somewhere.

Sox 2005 - 35-19 in 1-run games and 52-29 on the road.
-
JV finally pitching like everyone expects him to. Nice to see.
-
Out of the 3 teams with the best postseason records, the Sox were the only one to go wire to wire in the regular season as well.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 06:47 AM) The fact that they have 7 games AT LAA/TB and we only have 6 and at home could end up being huge. They have 8 at LAA/TB, and we have 10 at BOS/NYY/MIN. It seems like that final series vs them will be the deciding factor.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) With the Sox and Twinkies tied, here is a quick look at remaining schedules... AVERAGE WIN PCT OF REMAINING OPPONENTS: CWS: .510 MIN: .498 PCT OF REMAINING GAMES ON THE ROAD*: CWS: 48.7% (19 of 39) MIN: 61.5% (24 of 39) * = one of the home games is the completion against BAL, which will be played there, but with the Sox playing as home team So, SOS is in MIN's favor by a little bit, but the Twins have a lot more road games remaining. SOS is somewhat deceiving. Here are the remaining opponents still in the playoff hunt: Sox - 3 vs TB, 3 at BOS, 3 vs LAA, 4 at NYY, 3 at MIN = 16 games MIN - 4 at LAA, 4 at TB, 3 vs CHI = 11 games
-
3 runs, 1 hit. Nice efficiency.

Fields and Uribe.

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) He gets smacked around the entire year in the minors, gets called-up and gets it done in his first ML start this year. I don't understand why he was called up in the first place with the way he was throwing this year, but I'm happy he pitched well. It's a bid odd isn't it? Can't even throw well in AAA and comes up and tosses the ball pretty well. I know it was only one start, but still. KC only has one player with an OPS over .775 (Aviles), so that may have helped. Either way, minor league performances don't always translate to the MLB. It may be the defense, motivation, coaching, etc, but many solid MLB players didn't do too hot in the minors.

It is a great day when you can get a win while using Broadway, Ramirez, Carrasco, and Russell as your pitchers.
-
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:11 AM) If the White Sox skip the 5th starter and use Vazquez, Buerhle, Danks and Floyd on four days rest the rest of the way, the 5th starter will face the following schedule; If the Sox skip the 5th starter the rest of the way, he won't face anyone.
-
QUOTE (Bonderman38 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) This really tightens the field..you could go with Ramirez, Galarraga, Ellsbury will get votes whether deserving or not.. Yeah, Longoria, Ramirez, Galarraga, Ellsbury, and Murphy will be the top 5 candidates.
-
TB is going to be hurting with Crawford likely out for the season and Longoria down for at least a couple of weeks. That is two of their top 2 players out for an extended period during the pennant chase. They will more than likely fade over the next month. Those guys are hard to replace.
-
JV. I thought this was the year he would actually live up to his potential as a true #1 - and all he has done is be arguably the worst starter in the rotation. He has only 2 starts where he has allowed 1 run or less all year.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 06:52 PM) Great approach by AJP!! Could have done without the stretch on a fly ball that was 20 feet short from being a homer. I'll take it if it produces a run.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) From ESPN boards: Nice, this shows Quentin IS more efficient at driving in runs Hamilton has Kinsler and Young in front of him. CQ has had OCab and Swish or AJ. Big difference in terms of RBI opportunities. Also, Hamilton has over 50 more ABs with runners on than CQ.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 02:58 AM) You missed that all-important stat. As unfair as it is, Hamilton is considered a shoo-in all over the media. They're the ones that do the voting. Trust me, I believe Quentin deserves it. I just don't think there's any chance it happens. There is a chance. If Hamilton only leads the league in RBI and the Rangers miss the playoffs, then that would be an odd pick. He would need to surge ahead and also lead in HR or some other statistical category. A-Rod vs CQ right now. Also, if the AB's were equal, Quentin would have about 100 RBI. Quentin is top 3 in Runs, RBI, HR, and OPS.
