  1. I am sure this has been posted somewhere in this thread, but deadspin http://deadspin.com/ has some classic posts going on.
  2. So a one hour special to tell the world you are going to Miami has nothing to do with ego? QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) Considering there were a ton of people who thought his ego was too big to go to Miami maybe LeBron isn't who we thought he was.
  3. I actually thought that was the clincher. Seemed odd to have a party there if he wasn't going there. Seemed credible enough. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) I wonder if the US Magazine story was true about the cabanas? Maybe Dan Gilbert will crash that party.
  4. LeBron is who we thought he was. Where is Dennis Green when we need him.
  5. I feel bad for Cleveland and Drew Carey. He not only left them, but he did it on national tv. I am still shocked that he needed a special to do that. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) Tonight, we're all Cleveland fans
  6. I hope he has his house for sale before they burn that down too. Holy crap are Cleveland fans going off. Extra police already at his house (and they are not looking for Delonte).
  7. He had to know this was going to happen or he is really dumb. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) All things said, I love how this is blowing up in LeBron's face. Tons of articles in the media bashing him already.
  8. Actually it can also have the opposite effect. They all can't shoot the same ball. The Celtics had much better complimentary players than these 3. Don't get me wrong, they could probably win 40 playing 3 on 5, but I don't see 70 wins in an 82 game season without depth. That is what gets you to that level. You need the role players. There is no way they will be able to bring in anyone of value to fill those roles. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) Oh bulls***. Winshares Sminshares. The problem with statistics like that is they have no ability to measure the cumulative effect of the three playing together. They are also going to make the other guys around them several times better. Barring injury, that team will win 65 games pretty easily. If those old farts on the Celtics can do it, I'm pretty certain these guys can do it much, much better.
  9. Winshares had the trio at 41.1 wins for last season. That means the remaining roster has to make up 30+ wins, no way. Since the regular season is a complete joke, they will get 60 wins, but 72, I doubt it. Wade and Bosh would have to stay healthy and play in at least 80 to do that, and I doubt that happens. They will definitely be a top 3 team in the East, but I don't see them ever achieving 70+ wins. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Yes. Between minimum salary players and the fact that they're certain to deal Beasley now to fill another hole, I wouldn't be surprised if 72 wins fell.
  10. Really? Since the Bulls won their last championship, only 5 other teams have won (LA, BOS, DET, SA, and MIA). Detroit brought in a bunch of vets to win theirs, Miami brought in Shaq, Mourning, and Payton to win theirs, BOS did the same. Baseball has 5 different champs the last 5 years, football 5 in the last 6 years, and hockey 5 in the last 5 years. The NBA has only had 7 different champions since 1983 (27 years) and 8 since 1979 (31 years). QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) I really thought like it was actually going in a positive direction the last few years. New crop of young stars taking over from the old ones, some of the referee problems from earlier this decade were at least starting to clean up, different teams putting it together, etc.
  11. Jordan was beyond stats and rings. He took over games. I have never seen Queen James do that. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 08:56 PM) I'm just saying that people are so quick to say Jordan is Greatest of All Time, but if LeBron goes out and wins 10 rings, then maybe he would deserve it.
  12. The league has been going down the drain for awhile now. The entire culture has changed. It is not even entertaining anymore. It is dunks and 3 pointers, just like ghetto ball. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) ESPN RADIO in Florida has Shaq to Miami for the MIN. The NBA is going to have to change. This is a debacle.
  13. Well he is no longer the King in Miami. Maybe the Queen or the Court Jester? I just don't see how they can fill out the roster with 3 max deals. Their bench is going to be a joke, and if one of these guys gets hurt, they will suck.
  14. What an absolute joke. I can see guys doing this at the end of their careers, but the joke is 25. Just make 4-6 All-Star teams and have them play 82 times. The NBA is a complete joke and has been for the past decade.
  15. QUOTE (Real @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) Just curious what people here think with regards to which Sox team they had higher expectations for, going into the seasons of 2006 and 2010 I have a feeling the majority of people here will initially say 2006 due to the 05 WS, and addition of Thome However after thinking about it for a while, I'm leaning towards 2010 as I think it should be a better team overall, with better talent in the bullpen, starting lineup, and rotation. We should also have an overall easier time winning the division as I don't think there will be a 3-team race going into late September The addition of Peavy, excitement surrounding Gordon Beckham, and having a solid team defense for the first time since 2004-2005 has me pretty anxious I believe we have a lot more question marks going into 2010 than we did going into 2006. I felt that we were actually better going into 2006 than we were in 2005. I can't say the same thing about this year. It is awesome to have Peavy added to the staff, but we never added the bat I expected us to add.

  17. Carter strikes out a lot, and that is against Minor League pitchers. He also didn't do that well in limited AAA action. So I don't know why you would take him over Quentin right now.
  18. Wow, well at least this means the Central will come down to the Sox and Twins next year.
  19. Even though they don't officially start until Monday (7th), I would assume most organizations are starting to show up this weekend. Hopefully to get a headstart on some negotiations. Who are the first teams to make a deal (ie, trade)?
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ahhv...p&type=lgns I dunno. Guess there aren't many options out there. So how soon is Jenks dealt?
  21. Nice signing. Jones should do well in the Cell.
  22. Mark Gonzales also mentioning it: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2009/...coco-crisp.html
  23. I know it is a given that GMs deny everything, but: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2009/no...t-hold-meeting/
  24. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writ....html?eref=sihp Good fit? Quentin, Rios, and Byrd? Byrd is also a Type B Free Agent.
