  1. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) Weird seeing Roy Oswalt trot out of the bullpen in the 6th. Wonder when the last time he came out of the pen was? He was much more effective than Dempster, lol. "Oswalt has made 13 relief appearances in his career, but only five since his rookie season of 2001." Hate to see LAA scoring so many runs, 39 and counting in last 4 games. Hopefully they get them all out of their system before tomorrow.
  2. Here is a rundown of what is left for both teams: Sox Home (32) LAA - 3* KC - 6 OAK - 3* NYY - 3* SEA - 3 MIN - 3 DET - 4* CLE - 3 TB - 4* (*17 vs winning teams) Away (30) TEX - 1* MIN - 6 TOR - 4* KC - 6 BAL - 4* DET - 3* LAA - 3* CLE - 3 (*15 vs winning teams) 7 vs Detroit Head to Head 34 Division Games (16 Home, 18 Away) 34-28 .550 rest of way for 89 wins --------------------------------------- Tigers Home (35) CLE - 6 NYY - 4* BAL - 3* TOR - 3* LAA - 3* CHI - 3* OAK - 3* MIN - 6 KC - 4 (*19 vs winning teams) Away (25) BOS - 3* TEX - 3* MIN - 3 KC - 6 LAA - 3* CHI - 4* CLE - 3 (*13 vs winning teams) 35 Division Games (19 Home, 16 Away) 35-25 .585 rest of way for 89 wins The Tigers have 13 straight to end the season vs KC and MIN. We really need to have a 5 game lead heading into that stretch (Sep 21). I could easily see them going 10-3 or 11-2 in that stretch, and we have LAA, TB, and CLE over the same period. I figure 7-6 would be doable for us, at worst 5-8, and at best maybe 9-4. The Sox only play 13 games vs equal or better teams (including LAA) the rest of the way, and the Tigers play 23 games vs equal or better teams. I know that is a relative comparison, but they definitely have an uphill battle before those final 13 games. We really need to take advantage before that stretch.
  3. Yes, because even if Detroit pulls away, we are still in the thick of it for one of the two wild card spots. Detroit is just been hot lately and we are still tied in the losses column. It is not like we are 5 games out in late July.
  4. Sox have a slight edge overall, though these teams are pretty evenly matched. Sox hit and allow more HRs, Tigers walk more and allow more walks. Sox score more, Detroit has better OPS. Detroit has better ERA, Sox have better BAA.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 06:44 PM) I love seeing Verlander get beat up. Hopefully it is an omen for the second half. Sale, Weaver, or Wilson would have been a better start.
  6. In one word: Entertaining Constants: PK and Thornton Welcome Back: Peavy, Rios and Dunn Pleasant Surprises: AJ, De Aza, and Tank Youk: Youk Almost There: Alexei, Beckham, Floyd Young Guns: Sale, Quintana, Reed, Jones, Santiago, etc Addition by Subtraction: Ohman, Stewart, Fukudome
  7. I'm working on one for each of the Chicago teams (less the Cubs) as well as a Chrome Extension. Hopefully I will have the Sox one done within the next month.
  8. It is probably not sustainable, but the addition of Youk should help. How does Rios look?
  9. We currently have 8 players with 30+ RBI, 30+ Runs, and 60+ hits. This does not count Youk (yet). Have we ever had that type of production 1-9 at this point in a season?
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Yesterday is the kind of game that makes me cautious when using run differential to evaluate a team. Once the Sox got ahead by 10 or so, the Rangers weren't going to trot out their best relievers to try and keep the run differential down. Also, when teams get out ahead like that, they tend to let off the pedal or pinch hit to rest some guys. So it can go either way.
  11. According to ESPN's Cy Predictor (which is pretty accurate), Sale is the leading candidate in the AL for the Cy Young award. Omogrosso cost him the AL lead in ERA.
  12. After that 17 point win, we are now +59 for the season, which is 2nd best in the AL (TEX) and 3rd in the bigs. Cleveland somehow still has managed a winning record, but is a -36 (worse than KC). To me that seems unsustainable. If we can start winning at home, we are in a great shape.
  13. Sox had 21 hits for Sale's last start. That has to be some kind of record for hits, 78 in the last week (since last Wednesday).
  14. Tank now with more HRs than Pujols, A-Rod and Fielder. The Yanks just didn't want Youk to beat them.
  15. No CC? Who are the Yanks throwing out there Nova, Kuroda, Hughes, and Warren?
  16. The ESPN CY Predictor has Sale 2nd behind Fernando Rodney, and Peavy 5th. Darvish is 3rd, but gets some silly victory bonus that bumps his numbers up. Right now it seems like Sale, Price, Peavy, Sabathia, and Weaver are all in the mix. Sale and Peavy are also doing it at the Cell with the 2nd highest park factor (after Coors). http://espn.go.com/mlb/features/cyyoung
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2012 -> 07:41 PM) Trout now 4/24 with 6 K's. Pujols on the bench at least to start the game. http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_...-angeles-angels Pujols very grumpy about being benched. Almost 140 AB's since his last homer. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...&mode=video Trout ended up 2/4 with his first homer of the season, now at .231 6 homers in 149 career at-bats, would pencil in at 20-25 HR's for a full season hitting lead-off. At this point it has to be something, injury, lack of PEDs, eye sight problems, age discrepancy, something. The best hitter of a generation doesn't just fall off the map like this. He has no power and is swinging at bad pitches. He doesn't even look like the same batter.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) And with Bourn, you'd expect part of that improvement is simply more time and familiarity with the pitchers in the NL East, comfort level of coming into spring training with the same team, not being placed on the pressure-cooker of leading off in the middle of a stressful August/September pennant race and also being constantly reminded of the fact that they sent a couple of their best young prospects to the Astros to acquire you. Definitely, there is some natural progression in there. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:45 PM) Or it's the fact that Bourn is currently sporting a .396 BABIP. lol, very true, didn't even look at that. Somewhat unsustainable. I just think it is funny to write an article about a hitting coach two weeks into a season, seems like a small sample size to analyze. Additionally, I wouldn't expect any other comments from Braves' players about their coaches.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) I researched and found an article that actually supports DA's position...that said, I found some of Walker's comments interesting (if not unexpected) about the wear and tear of the last two seasons with the White Sox and that it was beyond time to part ways mutually (and supposedly, Reinsdorf wanted to keep Walker around for this season, if you believe the rumors). About Walker's comments, I believe everyone witnessed what he was feeling. It had a lot to do with the environment created by Ozzie and KW. No wonder Dunn came in and bottomed out and Rios struggled. I still believe some of these coaches get too much credit for successes and too much blame for failures. Sometimes it just takes the right type of person to get through to certain players who are struggling. Also, looking at the Braves' stats, no one is considerably better than last year other than Bourn. Most have came back down to earth since a hot start.
  20. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ May 2, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) I'm basking in the Albert Pujols results one month into the season. Couldn't have happened to a better guy. It's foolish to think this continues for much longer, but I appreciate each and every day that it does. Yeah, it is pretty amazing that he has played 26 games, nearly 20% of a normal season for him, and he has 0 HR's and 5 RBI. He is tied for 9th on the team in RBI (tied w/ Abreu who is no longer on the team), his OPS is nearing .500, and his BA is down to .208 after today's 0-3 showing. His drop off is beyond epic. Even if he returned to career norms from the remainder of the season, he would still post careers lows in everything except 2B's.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) And Chone Figgins already has 2 homers Now at 22 games and 88 AB's for Pujols. He has never had a homerless month in the majors. Batting just .216 and OPS around .575 with just 4 RBI. Even if he returns to last year's form for the remainder of the season, he will only hit around 26 HRs and have 75 RBI - and this is the best hitter in baseball. Maybe those rumors about his age have more substance than everyone has thought. This just baffles me because he has been so good for so long, and now he just drops off the map.
  22. Cutler and Forte both get injured = Bears miss the playoffs. Hossa gets knocked out = Hawks lose in the first round, and now Rose is gone until anywhere from November - February = Bulls? All the Bulls need to step up now; Deng, Boozer, Noah, and Rip all need to take it to another level. They can't have an off night. Watson and Lucas need to channel some DRose.
