  1. Has to be a completely demoralizing and season ending loss for the Tigers. So much hope after tying it in the 9th and putting the winning run at the plate only to lose 3 out of 4 at home vs a division opponent. They are now 2 games under .500 and 9 back. 2 Horse race.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) Jenks just made me appreciate Kotsay. That's how bad he is. LMAO. Appreciate and Kotsay in the same sentence. Jenks has lost it, he can't be relied on with every game meaning so much. Jenks' ERA is over 5 and his WHIP is almost 1.50, that is horrible for a closer on a 1st place team. First it was all those scary games were he almost lost but still allowed runs and got the save. Now he is just flat out blowing huge leads, and not even 1 run leads.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) lol, I have sigs turned off because my work computer just bogs down when I go to Soxtalk on my breaks. So no I didnt Yeah, that has been my sig since I saw the pic. Lord Helmet.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) When he comes back, I bet money he is wearing one of those space cadet helmets like David Wright wore What kind of helmet is that? BTW, Gavin sick since his June 2nd start against Texas: 10 G, 1 CG, 69 1/3, 50 H, 8 ER, 0 HR, 14 BB, 58 K, 1.04 ERA, 0.92 WHIP. Only 7 HRs on the entire season, wow.
  5. The Sox actually just weathered the storm. If Minnesota was going to make a move, it was going to be over the last 13 games (CLE-3, BAL-4, KC-3, SEA-3), and the Sox are still in first, which is nice. Now they need to extend the lead in August while Minnesota plays the tougher schedule. MIN has 21 games vs teams with at least a .500 record, and only 6 against losing teams. They also play 17 on the road vs 10 at home. The Sox on the other hand have only 16 vs teams at .500 or better and 12 against losing teams. We have to gain some ground on the Twinkies in this stretch. We also play 18 against the division this month, so August is going to be huge for us. With Minnesota's schedule getting easier in September, we really need about a 5 game lead (preferably more) going into September.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 11:11 PM) Padres won at 82-80. Believe that is the worst. I was thinking Divisional Record. Right now the Sox are 17-20 in the Central and are in 1st. That would be weird to win your division while having a losing record against them.
  7. Has a team ever won a Division with a losing Divisional record?
  8. Sox are 7-1 when Freddy starts (since June 1st). Go Sox!
  9. Score 6 of Danks in one inning and lose. Man that's gotta suck. Great win for the Sox, now 1 game up on Detroit and 4.5 on the Twinkies.
  10. Huge win and a demoralizing loss for the Twinkies, yes!
  11. Niemi had the 19th best save pct in the league. I understand he played great for times in the postseason, but the Hawks blocked a ton of shots and played some great defense in front of him. Hjalmarsson is more valuable IMO.
  12. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 06:26 PM) Do the Twins/Tigs have a tougher Post-ASB schedule than we do? I know we have to play Boston twice but I'm not really worried about them, we're only a game and a half behind them right now... which is crazy when you put it into perspective Also, we don't have to face Cliff Lee ONCE for the rest of the year, sans a Post Season meeting Well Detroit's is brutal, they still have Texas (5), Tampa Bay (7), Boston (3), LAA (3), and NY (4). That is 22 games out of the Division vs winning teams all in the hunt. Minnesota's is more like ours, which is why it is nice that we have a few games on them. They only have Tampa Bay (4), LAA (3), and Texas (7). 14 games.
  13. At this point I would say another bat, but would like to see a few more Hudson starts.
  14. I was actually glad to see the Sox make it into first before the All-Star break today after reading this the other day from SI.com: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writ.../three.strikes/ Looking back over the last 5 years in the AL, the Division Leaders at the break made the playoffs 12 out of 15 times (Detroit in 09 and 07, and Boston in 06 all missed out). That is 80% of the time, and Detroit actually played in the 1-game playoff and lost in 2009. The Sox had Division leads in 2008 and 2005 at the break. Also, the Sox are #1 in the MLB in 1-run games at 17-9 and in Day games at 20-9. Finally, we have a decent schedule after the break with only 4 series vs good non-Divisional teams (NYY, BOS x2, LAA).
  15. Quentin was batting .201 on June 13th with 10 HRs and 33 RBI in 55 games. Since then he has hit .368 with 11 HRs, 28 RBI, and 18 Runs in the last 21 games. Wow.
  16. Seems like ESPN trying to do damage control and distance themselves from the event. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) CNBC is reporting that LeBron's camp paid Jim Gray to do the interview, not ESPN. Maverick Carter = best business manager EVER. Reporter Jim Gray Paid By LeBron Entity, Not ESPN
  17. I am just wondering if Leporn and his "team" expected this much backlash and negative press? Everyone expected some if he left Cleveland, but just the way it played out, and his borderline illiterate comments have made this into a complete debacle. It has to be one of the worst PR decisions ever.
  18. Some gems: http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/1361800...coward-not-king http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/13618559 The NBA took a huge hit here.
  19. Bosh is a better scorer than Rodman, but that is about it. Rodman was so good defensively and rebounding that he perfectly complimented Jordan and Pip. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 09:35 AM) Jordan > LeBron Pippen = Wade Rodman/Grant Bulls bench > Heat bench ???????
  20. and that is why the NBA has turned into a complete joke. This just totally sealed the deal. They might as well fold 10+ franchises, and make 16 superteams who just play each other 5-6 times a year. That would be more entertaining. Who wants to see Miami win 120-40 against the pillaged Nets, Cavs, and Raptors. Wow, that sounds fun. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 09:30 AM) god, do you guys watch the NBA? The only time there have been upsets in the playoffs was when there was 5-game series, and they removed them specifically for that reason. Yes the bulls have a good team, but in any other sport that would mean they could make the championship. But not in basketball. The heat with 3 superstars and a bunch of scrubs will be unreal good. This is way better than ray allen and garnett a bit past their primes. They are all in their prime. You don't need a deep bunch when you have three players that will play 35-40 mins. per game. It's over.
  21. Is it possible they they will win 72+, definitely, but just having 3 great players is not enough. Just because they had that value on separate teams doesn't mean it will translate to the same value when they play together. I think their best bet is because teams have raped themselves in hopes of landing one of them. Now you have multiple opponents who won't even field teams capable of winning 20 games. QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) I think people don't understand just how good the Heat are. Bosh/Wade/James and D leaguers is a 60 win team at least. And the Heat will have better than D leaguers on the floor with them. Here's a projection which captures just how damn good the Heat will be. This is very likely to be the best NBA team ever assembled. The Bulls win record will fall..if not next season then some time in the next 5 years.
  22. They had the Wallace's, Billups, Rip, and Prince. I believe they had 4 All-Stars in 2006ish. Granted, individually the Heat have better players, but we will see how well they compliment each other on the same team. I highly doubt they all average 20ppg (Bosh probably drops). The Pistons, like the Celtics and Spurs of recent years have had great complimentary skill sets and role players. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 09:02 AM) lol. well those pistons team didn't quite have the same level of talent the current Heat team will sport. I say that's a pretty big difference.
  23. and they only won 1 championship in that span, which actually supports the claim that there is no way the Heat will win 5-6 championships in a row. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) The Pistons made the eastern conference finals 6 years straight from 2003-2008. Yeah, that about says it all.
  24. Lebron to Miami soon QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) what does l2ms mean?
