This is why we have an illegal immigration problem.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) You weren't born in the life of a legal firm, and nobody is forcing you to go law school. These immigrants, like many of our ancestors, were born in s***ty environments and are willing to face criminal charges and go through extreme dangers to come here and work a s***ty job for the rest of their lives. 5 years from now you'll have a smaller debt and a cushy job, and you earned by working hard. 5 years from now an illegal will still work the same level s***ty job (dishwasher, landscaper, painter, etc..) making the same s***ty money, still not receiving medical benefits but the alien will mind his or her own business while Mr. Whitecollar like yourself is trying to push them out of the country thinking it isn't fair that you can get the newest Mercedes because you have too much debt in your house and law school. Well.. now I've read it all. Damn you Jenks for wanting a better life, working your ass off for it, and being a wee bit ticked off when someone who didn't work for it get's it for free. -
QUOTE(premo @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) So let me get this straight, paying Vasquez 11M or so a season for 4 years is "cheap"?? But they have a problem signing a guy that has, with the exception of last year, really been a VERY good pitcher, one of the most consistent in the league, to a 5 year deal? That just really doesnt make sense at all to me. I really believe that whether we're rebuilding or not, the pitching staff should be built around Buehrle, Garland, Danks, and Jenks. I've never really been "sad" when a player left a team. I mean, I was bummed to let Maggs and Frank go, but it was their time to go. But I don't see it being time for Buehrle to go anywhere. And I would honestly find it hard to watch a team that hails Contreras and Vasquez as their 1-2 starters. Sign him to a huge deal. He'll be what, 33 when the contract is up? He's not the type of pitcher that I see breaking down over the next 5 years. They have a problem paying a guy (IMO, at LEAST) $17 or $18 million a year for somewhere between 6 and 8 years. And ya know what.. I have a problem with that too.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) [sigh] I will admit seeing my quote I am a little disappointed in myself for Kenny's rant not being a little more profanity laced, and not including the destruction of an innocent piece of furnature and/or meal. It was pregame. The tables and food weren't out yet.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Actually this has the makings of its own thread. 4 months too late...
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) Oh? So if the Sox suck in 2010 because Pauly is (even) slower and old, and Mark is pitching like 2006 again because his arm is tired, fans will still come out to the park because KW and JR were nice enough to re-sign Mark for the fans? BS. This team draws well for one reason, and that's winning. Which is evident by the bathroom lines!!!
-
QUOTE(Soxy @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) I'll do that. But NEVER to Barry Manilow--I hope I get some points for that. The same CD for months? All day long... every day...? Yes, big bonus points for it not being BM.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:35 AM) Here's where KW has to be willing to make a mistake though. What happens if the market doesn't correct itself over the next 3-5 years? In that case, will the Sox let every FA go because they don't want to "overpay", even though overpaying is the norm? If there was one player who JR and company could take the chance on with what might be a bad contract, it's Buehrle. As someone on Comcast said last night, not only is he less of a risk on the field than most pitchers, but the Sox fans would forgive JR and KW in a heartbeat if Buehrle doesn't live up to his contract. The problem is that in this market Mark is going to get offered more than 5 years/75 million. The Sox can NOT cripple themselves and be allowed to be raped by the market. Are the fans going to be so forgiving when it's Mark and 8 A ball players taking the field next season, and possibly the next 3 after that? And holy hell if, God forbid, something happens to his arm.

How in the hell does someone listen to the SAME cd day in and day out. Barry Manilow to boot.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) And those people that have paid attention should also realize that the policy that was implemented has worked out fairly well. If there is ONE thing KW has done extremely well is avoiding untradeable contracts. With all the horrible long-term deals given to pitchers over the past 10-12 years, I'm not quite sure how you can fault this particular policy of JR's. Winner... I like Mark as much as anyone else, but I side with the "if it aint broke don't fix it" policy on this one.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) Yeah, that's about right. I'm not going to disagree about that. It will be the old White Sox chestnut: "Well, we attempted to bring Buehrle back, but, it just couldn't work out. But, hey! At least you all saw we gave it an honest go. Now, come back and buy tickets to see Jerry Owens. They'll cry poor, claim Buehrle was really just out for the money, and then passive-aggressively wish him the best of luck. They can cry all they want. Anyone that's paid any attention to this club before and beyond the "don't stop believing" days should not be surprised by Mark's impending exit. The Sox have had 10K at games for extended periods of time before. They will survive.. until the next WS run when those "fans" will be back making my bathroom line hell again...
-
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:00 AM) Now, with these sentiments public, the White Sox will feel considerable heat bringing him back for only 5 years. The heat just got turned up. Somehow I don't think Kenny gives a crap how hot it gets. Recall back in Feb when Kenny spilled the beans when he was caught saying sic "we've accepted Mark wont be here next year...", followed by an apology to Mark and his parents, followed further by a(nother) yelling match at the Saturday Q&A..... I don't know why this fan base will be surprised if nothing happens with Mark, or with the rest of the team in terms of competing for another WS ring anytime soon. The writing was posted pretty clear on the wall at Soxfest.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 09:03 AM) Happy Birthday, Buddy!!!! Wish I could have joined you for the game, but, we'll make sure to celebrate properly. Have a good one! Ditto. HB and have a great time tomorrow.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 08:57 AM) 2 out of our last 3 games have been W's! Shhhh....
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) I didn't get to bump this yesterday for a US Open victory--boo, but Tiger's officially a father now. The Nike commercial with the golf clubs is way cute.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 07:53 AM) I had a bad feeling when he was not the opening day starter. I hope this contract situation doesn't go the same way. KW needs to relook his 3-yr contract policy for pitchers. I understand where he is coming from, but it should only apply to new pitchers to the organization. He already knows what he will get from guys like Mark and Jon. Why not lock them in now to market rates and after 3 years you will have a couple of bargains. It's not a KW policy.
-
QUOTE(Allsox @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 07:59 AM) KW told Paulie he's prolly the only one he wasn't trading Or.. "Just because you have a cushy contract doesn't mean your ass is safe... "
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) And you are 100% sure this is a fact? As in, you have evidence of KW sitting on his ass doing nothing? Yes, I am, and yes I do. But if that isn't enough, were his own words before the game that they are not doing anything and are confident that the team is going to turn it around enough evidence for you? QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) I see.... Don't change my words ever again.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:28 PM) Not when it comes to trades... He likes to be Mr Super-Slueth and all top secret. Now after the fact, he is the first to talk about how great the players are from him moves. Previously he hasn't been called out as a stupid ass with the team performance backing up the sentiment. Think what you want. The fact is that Kenny is doing nothing right now.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) Nah, you're just spoiled and have stuff handed to you. People do have to work for what they get, by and large. I know I've had to work my ass off for what I have, and I have to work VERY hard to keep it. And, that's not just money, by the way. Life's hard. Get used to it. But if I have to work hard, I might as well enjoy what I do have ... because I've had to work very hard to get it. I know it might look that way, but it's far from the truth. I'd like to see some of the little 21 year olds on this board get up at 5:30am, take on 5 hours of school, work 1-6 doing clerical work for FREE at an accounting firm to get interning credit, then proceed to waitress from 7-12 5 days a week (and don't even get me started on the double shifts on the weekends to try to get ahead on student loan payments) and somehow manage to get school work done and maintain a household. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) In debt up to my eyeballs and working 60+ hours a week as a small business owner. I work harder than any 2 illegals combined. I enjoy what I have because I KNOW I have earned it. A effing men. -

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) Im saying that the jobs that they get and the hours they have to put in to making a living is more work than most people that are citizens of the USA ever have to deal with. And than i made the comment about the message board because everyone who posts on a whitesox site has a computer available to them and internet plus its highly likely have cable tv to watch the games. Than majority of these posters probably like to attend a few games when possible. An illegal immigrant working more hours per week than most of us doesnt have the money to afford all that. Umm.. it's because my husband and I DO work insane amounts of hours that we have the $ to spend on Sox tickets, live in a nice house (that we rarely see since were at work ALL the time), and nice cars to drive. -

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) White Sox organizational development failure personified. Oh no.. there's been plenty of those. You've got to add asinine monetary payout to the description if you're going to be accurate in describing Joe.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) The Baltimore Orioles have hired former cub and twin front office man Andy McPhail as their new chief operating officer. There is now speculation that this will be it for Baltimore manager Sam Perlozzo, and that the Orioles could be the next team to target Joe Girardi as a skipper. No idea what any of this would mean for Leo Mazzone. The Sun is reporting they already fired Sam.

QUOTE(TSZMike @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) You sure can. Doesnt bother me at all because I will stick around just to me makes the site look bad. But it is what it is. Don't let one pissy poster define your experience here.
