  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) You can bet on that much. If that were the case he would have been singing about it. He's the first to toot his own horn. Besides, he's been wrapped up in the draft. I don't think he feels an urgency to make a move right now.
  2. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) Having actually lived through the original "White Flag Trade", let me tell you that this situation is not a White Flag Trade. In 1997, I want to say we were 3.5 games behind the Tribe when the deal was made. Even the team was mad about the trades, I believe all the players wore shirts saying "We may be stupid enough to screw this up" under their uniforms. In the middle of a division race, everybody associated with the organization was rightly mad as hell. "We just might be dumb enough to win this thing". Embarrassed would be a better word to describe upper mgmt's feelings rather than pissed. Jerry apologized on the charter before it took off from John Wayne. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Designed by Robin Ventura and carried out by his wife, I believe. A Sox staffer had them printed.
  3. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:49 AM) BTW guys there's fireworks every Wednesday night off Navy pier Every Wednesday and Saturday all summer long.
  4. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) 496 Leader among DH"s.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) Be sure to go to the taste at an off-peak time, if you want to get food. To me it is a little over-rated as there are literally a million people in Grant Park for the fireworks, so it gets pretty crazy. The late morning/early afternoon of the 4th, IMO, is the best time to go. Folks don't seem to start coming down until 4ish to get a spot for the fireworks.
  6. QUOTE(Grebeck Fan Club @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 08:19 AM) I'm coming to Chicago on July 4 for a long weekend. To make a short story long, I have tickets to the July 5 Orioles game and would like some advice. What are the good eats inside the stadium? What's the best way to get there? Typical tourist stuff would be appreciated. Best place for Chicago pizza, good location for July 4 fireworks (I hear there are none downtown), etc. etc. Everything to eat inside the park is great and you have a large selection to choose from. Where are you staying? That will help with advising on the best route in. Best pizza depends on whether you like thin, thick, or stuffed. You heard wrong on the fireworks info. There are scheduled fireworks displays all week from June 30 to July 4th - with huge ones off Navy Pier both July 3rd and 4th.
  7. QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) I'm going to put in a word for North here. And I'm not talking about his work with Ozzie or AJ -- just with Cooper. I didn't hear the interview, but I've heard quite a few that North has done with Cooper before. They actually have a great, no BS rapport -- they've gone after each other, and not taken it personally, quite a few times. North is no doubt a jerk, but his stuff with Cooper is almost always entertaining -- and as a Sox fan, I generally feel that it's good therapy. Basically, North cuts to the chase -- none of that typical sportscaster "What can you guys do to improve?" stuff. And Cooper's a tough New York guy (who's been paid for this weekly appearance for 2 years, by the way), and he doesn't back down. One other point: North is many things, and many of them not good. I don't agree with his politics, and he's often a bit of lunkhead. But my long-held view -- backed even by some in the industry and not fans of his -- is that he is a very good interviewer. He gets people to be candid in a way that they generally aren't. Just my 2 cents. What he's paid for is to give an interview, not to be cut off at the knees. North was attacking and condescending right out of the gate. And calling North a "sportcaster" is as hysterical as calling Paris Hilton a "movie star".
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) It is a totally different situation. Supposedly Eddie Murray was never a good fit there. It makes me wonder more why Eddie Murray keeps getting fired. What is he doing? I'm gonna guess his big head might have something to do with it.

    The Sopranos

    QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) Richard Roeper gives the Sopranos finale a HUGE Thumbs up. http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/ebertandroeper/ Click on the on-line exclusives. He just about messed himself talking about it on Howard the other morning. He also told some funny stories about him and Ebert. Ebert can't speak well, if at all, anymore and sometimes when RR talks to him he yells and Roger writes him a note saying "I'm not deaf stupid".
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) It does? I could get AM 1000 down in Lafayette, but not WSCR. The signal strength might vary with direction. It had something to do with AM1000 sharing frequency with other AM or FM stations. West of Darien after 7pm on weeknights and most all day on weekends, AM100 was non-existant because the station they were sharing the signal with took over.

    CNN is a little late to the party. All this info is recycled.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) THAT is a shot at the players. What does that tell you? That the players are playing with no heart or passion.
  13. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 12:20 AM) Wednesday knock, knock, knock....
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) What was wrong with Thome? And wouldn't you agree that some of those injuries are just these guys getting older, something that KW seemingly failed to take into consideration this offseason when he brought back/in two injury-plagued outfielders? Thome has been injured for 3 seasons. Of course I would. Which is why the stupid ass powers that be should have not sat with their fingers up their butts this off season. Regardless... the point is that injures ARE to blame for some of the demise of this team.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Who wasn't healthy....Pods? BTW, I definitely agree that injuries have had a big impact on this team. We're one of the last organizations that could survive so many offensive players going down due to our pathetic developmental system. I believe that if this team could have had average injury issues all year up to this point, they'd be probably 5 or 6 games out of first place. Sorry, I left for lunch. Scott, Joe, and Jim for starters. Dye had a ton of "treatments" down there as did Paul.
  16. It's common sense that if there were no injuries things would be better. How much better, no idea. But at least they would be at 100% and the injury issue wouldn't have an opportunity to be an excuse. Regardless, it's silly to think the injuries have nothing to do with the slide. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) We were healthy to start the year off also offensively....and the offense still sucked. Ummm... they weren't healthy leaving spring training..
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) Because he's an arrogant horses' ass? Oh, maybe I'm wrong. ROTFLMAO!!!
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) Not a fan?
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) If Ozzie loses his job because his team was the worst in baseball this year, I think I'll hate KW and JR, especially if the replacement is someone like Razor Shines. Shines as manager might just be enough to keep my money in the bank...
  20. Why in the hell do we want to trade Mark within the AL?
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 09:21 AM) I agree with you. I know everyone will point to guys like Brandon and Brian, but there are also plenty of examples of him throwing guys into key situations, and giving them plenty of chances. They can point all they want. But be sure when they do that they also take into consideration their actions as well. Their demise with the Sox was not without their contribution.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 08:59 AM) You know I was referring to patience with young players. No, I didn't. Thanks for clarifying. But for the record, IMO you are incorrect.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) Does it really even matter anymore if Ozzie is our manager? This core group isn't going to get it done, and the next time we're going to be in playoff contention, it will be with an entirely different group. Ozzie seems to have very little patience for young players that don't come up and contribute right away. However, we're going to have to deal with those growing pains as we go though the rebuilding process. It might be better to bring in a manager who has a little more patience. Someone with a little MORE patience...?? Oye.. you can't get more relaxed in that clubhouse than Ozzie. Mr "Let's just forget about it and go get a beer".
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) you're a real jewel... gem, too.
  25. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) LOL
