LOL. Anyway, I love this thread. I have nothing personally against Teahen, I just couldn't stand him as a player. I don't know what they saw in him at all, except that he bats lefty.
-
McDougal's who I was thinking of, and while he had a good first season, his remaining ones with us were horror movies. When he'd come out of the bullpen, I'd hide under the bed.

Has there been ANYONE we acquired from KC where it ended up like: yeah, that was an awesome trade!?
-
Once again, great pitching, resulting in a win only because thank God they didn't score more than one or two runs. This is like Groundhog Day, except we managed to get the win.

Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question
LVSoxFan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
OK, sort of on the topic. Do we all agree that if the Cleveland series doesn't go well, that something will absolutely happen? Because how much more water can this ship take on? We're still not that far enough out of it to write off the season but a couple of bad series and we certainly could be. Because if nothing does happen, we will be on here for months wondering WTF KW was thinking, not doing anything. -

Maybe for their encore they can ask the Bears' defensive coordinator if Cutler really has what it takes to start in the NFL. -
Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question

Look, Coop doesn't strike anyone as media-savvy and now we know why. Blame the guys who decided to hire him for comment, not him for being him. It was a stupid question because these two were asking him to second-guess his bosses on the air. It would have been worse had he answered that question. I DO like the fact that he clearly hates the losing, and he's emotional about it. Unlike, say, KW, who does his whole annoying Morpheus schtick when questioned, lulling us into stupor with his Wannestadt-like assurances that yes, all the pieces are in place for greatness. Personally I'm kind of enjoying the verbal chair-throwing. Is that wrong? -
I don't mind the Peavy trade, JP, Jackson. Rios and Dunn... okay, busts. But the most head-scratching acquisition in the annals of KW history I think had to be Manny Ramirez. I mean, WTF?

DL him now, for our sake and for his.

Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question

I don't mind Coop having a meltdown; as somebody else pointed out, he's the one guy we KNOW is getting the job done and yeah, it's gotta suck putting that pitching out there and then watching us lose game after game because the Sox can't even score 2 runs, even against some no-name rookie pitcher. I'm not sure why they asked him about Viciedo--that wouldn't even be his call and it would be even worse if he commented on it. But yeah something needs to change ASAP unless we want to guarantee a 2007-like season and to that end why the f*** has Greg Walker not been fired yet? I mean, dammit... -
Well even that's arguably jinxed. Because that was supposed to make us even better than '05 on paper and for one half it did, and then it went over the cliff. Then came 2007. Gulp.

Even IF we were to win the Comedy Central, this team is so full of holes and inconsistency that the first decent team we face will make quick work of us (think: Tampa in 2008).

The official "end of Ozzie soon?" thread
LVSoxFan replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have to agree that unloading Paulie would cause such a fan backlash it would dig the attendance hole even deeper. Sure it makes perfect sense trade-wise, but fan-wise I can't see that happening. -

If that's what he's doing that is so wrong. I've only been to six games this year (I average 15-20) and that's because I quickly tired of seeing the same sparkless team lose outing after outing because the other team managed to go up two runs. Or tired of bases loaded nobody out and not one run coming in. Don't blame consumers for not buying your crappy product. I'm the biggest Sox fan you could want, but I'm not a chump. -

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 12:39 PM) KW "likes the way Ozzie is managing these guys" ?! That is just a lie or he's gone delusional. I am literally becoming ashamed to be a White Sox fan based on how this organization is run these days. It's such a bummer... Here's the article. Which, by the way, quotes KW of being tired of talking about "stats and slumps." Here's exactly what he said about Ozzie: Williams said he likes the way Guillen has called his team out or defended it, depending on the situation. ‘‘The tone is set by the manager and coaches,’’ he said. ‘‘They certainly have an effect on the players. These are professional sports. There are times when players need a kick in the butt, there are times when they need to restore a sense of calm and confidence and there are times when you have to do a little bit of both. And I think what Ozzie did was, he did a little of both. It was needed at the time, and it was very timely.’’ -

Based on KW's comments in the Sun-Times this morning, I see no changes coming. He hinted at maybe trying to get a player but actually said he liked the way Ozzie is managing these guys. I don't think any big change is coming. The fact that Walker still has a job, though, is amazing. Even the most die-hard supporters of him over the years here have turned on him this year. Yeah, it may not fix every thing but it would do something that the organization seems loathe to do: send a SIGNAL. Although, I wonder how many more games with half-empty attendance will be tolerated before something is done. -
I don't think I've ever SEEN anybody have such an awful batting season. Geez. Come back, Brian Anderson, all is forgiven! Well okay maybe not...
-
Maybe he was trying to decide whether to commit mentally to staying here and wanting reassurance that that's where he'd be wanted? I mean think about it: a lot of us have been in jobs before where you're dogging it and then you get that promotion/raise and all of a sudden you see it in a whole new light? But now I'm just speculating.
-
I sensed this a while ago but I'm thoroughly convinced that Ozzie is worn out. With the Sox at least. He looks spent, at a loss, distracted. And who can blame him? Any time this team gets something going, they take three steps backward, so there's no time to enjoy any success. You know, like: last year. And the year before. And you have to wonder how fun a position it is to be in to have to try and motivate veteran players with whopping salaries (Rios) to run the f***ing bases, when you're already busy trying to figure out if youngsters like Beckham are ever going to pan out, or end up being Brian Anderson Redux. The only people who seem to be getting it done on a regular basis is the pitching staff, which unfortunately means jack when your big-swinging offense is scoring two runs per game. If I had to bet Ozzie won't even have to be fired, he'll take the Marlins gig, return home to Florida and hey: at least with that team there's no expectations, which may be just the change of scenery he needs. KW will give Ozzie his usual insincere sincere sendoff and make some speech about how we love ya for '05 Ozzie but it's time for a change, blah, blah.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 07:15 AM) Ah...remember the good old days of late April and May when everyone was convinced Cleveland had a 0% chance of doing anything this year and that Adam Dunn would start mashing the ball very soon? Good times. LMAO. But so true.
-
Although I highly doubt the Cubs would deal Zambrano. Yeah, Dunn and Rios are our problem, but I don't think they consider Zambrano a problem. Plus, remember they're already going to have to trade Pena to free up first base. I almost would rather get rid of Rios because Dunn may be flailing, but I have no doubt he's TRYING. Rios? Bah.

LOL. I thought I'd throw it out there. I'm not a Soriano fan. I'll put on the co-worker tomorrow and let him defend his idea against the objections here. Should be fun! Keep the responses coming.
-
Sorry FOR Soriano. OK, so here's the idea (not mine, but this guy's a baseball nut/stat geek/etc.) from a Cubs fan. Cubs trade Pena (who has value right now) to free up 1B. Then we swap Dunn for Soriano--yes, swapping one bad contract for another, but the idea is that Dunn can play 1B and Soriano can be a true designated hitter, which he is anyway. That puts an end to the failed Dunn-to-the-AL-and-DH-role experiment and he gets a fresh start back in his NL. Sox fans might get a kick out of stealing a Cub and a guy who has power but isn't putting up the dismal stats that Dunn is. That's the idea. Discuss. Just wanted to throw it out there. I will show him the responses.
