  1. In the other one, Uribe chased the guy to 2B but waited so long to throw the ball that when he finally did, the guy was safe. Oof.
  2. That's an interesting perspective. You may be exactly right. Swisher seemed to embrace coming here; never got that sense from O Cab.
  3. If I'm not mistaken, the other two were in back-to-back games. One was by Uribe and I can't remember who screwed up the other one. After the second one in as many games, Hawk of course started going Hawk-wild. DJ even said this is stuff a high school team would do. But that was a pretty big mental error by Paulie, for a veteran.
  4. I don't think the comment about Socsia is an issue. I think Ozzie would probably second that. He never seemed like the type to not give others their due, and downplay himself. It's the sniping at Ozzie that's going to blowback on O Cab. Carlos Lee, anyone? Buh-bye...
  5. I could only marvel last night at Paulie's gaffe. He owes that pitcher a steak dinner for his two errors when Wasserman had two sure outs. Not only have I not seen before somebody get picked off by the first/third move (nice job, Waz!) but I've also never seen before a team botching run-downs like we have this year. What is that like, three? Four? What should have been an inning-ender became a triple steal? Had Paulie simply tagged that guy out he would beat the guy running home by a mile. Instead, he bizarrely throws to home and then throws it into the dirt. Every time I start feeling good about this team I see something along these lines and remember that in '05 the whole emphasis was on fundamental, sound baseball. I also remember that in '05 Pods was the only guy I had ever seen get out of a rundown safe (twice). Yet three times this year already we've given up what's usually an automatic out due to our gaffes. Would this be a record?
  6. Actually Rock this was all in the Sun-Times this morning. And what's causing concern is: a) O Cab is starting to seem like a guy in a walk year phoning it in, worried more about his stats and trade value than the team or what his manager thinks B) The fact that O Cab now won't talk to the Sun-Times for apparently running the story about his calls to the press box, but was overheard calling Ozzie out to another reporter, claiming he needs to back his players, which of course made it right back to Ozzie. Not good. c) Then of course while all this is going on Dotel manages to get into an altercation with the conditioning coach--!!!, never heard that one before--which provides yet another distraction. Doesn't sound like all is well in that clubhouse. Plus, you take into account that the so-called verteran team "leaders" Konerko and Thome are playing like dookie and probably should be benched/rested. Another actual leader, Buehrle, is probably so wrapped up in his poor record this season he can't really be The Guy. What a weird season so far. If O Cab keeps the mouth running, I could easily see him packaged with Konerko or Crede or whomever by the ASB to get that leadoff hitter we don't have.
  7. LOL. I remember that sketch. I agree 100% with the idea that OC should be told to STFU and worry about the game. That's Cubs-like behavior, circa 2004.
  8. LOL that was pretty great. The moment JD hit that you knew it was gone. Duck, beer stand guys under the kids deck! BTW: does Hawk have any stories--ANY--that aren't about... him? Geez last night I swear every story was "Well when I PLAYED back in 1947..." (or whatever it was). Me, me, me. So tired of that guy.
  9. Well let's look back to 2005 and remember how KW would repeat over and over: let's just win the division. And that we did. So beating up on division rivals like Cleveland makes me VERY happy. And WTF: a winning west coast road trip? In honor of this I've suspended my negative sig and replaced it. For now. Seven game winning streak? HELL YEAH. When was the last freakin time we did that? 06?
  10. I think he does that because he would sound silly doing the put it on the boooooard call all by himself.
  11. Yeah I remember 2003. You're right, and hell: ANYTHING's better than last season. That was miserable. At least this club shows some life.
  12. A 71% success rate at stealing is "mediocre"? Wow. Tough crowd. I agree that CQ is what's making this team UN-like 2007. Who knows where we'd be if he hadn't come along and Owens were in?
  13. The last six games have given hope, but it's too soon to call. They sure looked like it for a couple of weeks there.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) Why? I mean, the team is playing entirely different baseball, as far as I can tell. What is your reasoning for thinking this? It is? Up until six games ago: -Feast-or-famine offense -No base stealing threats/speed -No opposite field hitting/bunting -No leadoff hitter -Total lack of run production resulting in gem starter performances being wasted -Aging, slugger performers in the middle of the lineup not getting anything going -No decent backup catcher Sound familiar? Granted, things are going better now and cheers to Ozzie for messing with the lineup, which seems to have done the trick. But let's talk in a month. Not trying to be negative; just taking a wait-and-see attitude.
  15. OMG somebody said "Darin Erstad." Gulp. Just that name brings back 2007 all over again. Yeesh. I still think this team is 2007 waiting to happen, but I will say: I don't recall any six game winning streaks last year; at least not early. Am I right? We were lucky to sweep a series.
  16. I'm just one major street down from Wrigley, at Belmont. Nobody really hassles me at all about being a Sox fan or being in Sox gear. It's kind of like a club where members always acknowledge each other in passing ("Go White Sox!") because we know we're in enemy territory. Quite a few more Sox fans than there used to be, though.
  17. I'm all for sitting Thome and Konerko. That should have been done a while ago.
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 16, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) His service number will be 2.060 by the end of this season. If he really is THIS good, next year will be his final "cheap" season. But yeah, I agree with the majority on this one. The earliest you start worrying about extending him is May or June of next year and that's only if he stays completely healthy and productive up until then. LOL at your avator Kalapse. Got the CQ love goggles on, have ya?
  19. Eight years sounds pretty premature to me. We have him for four? Good enough for now--let's see how his health holds up. Definitely should re-up him before the very end, though, and not instigate another Buehrle-type drama.
  20. I'm not worried about this at all. He was off for quite a while. The Ventura stat reassures me too. We've got far bigger problems than Joe's errors here and there. Definitely though a topic that has been on people's minds.
  21. Geez, you play a couple of games at first base and you're too sore to play the next one? Yikes.
  22. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 16, 2008 -> 12:29 AM) Hawk is turning into Ron Santo LMAO!!! I really, really cannot stand Hawk anymore. This month's Maxim has a list of the 10 worst sportscasters of all time and I half expected to see him on it. Put Stoney in the booth. Please. Anyway... nice win!
  23. I agree with the sentiment that it doesn't matter how bad Zito's been; if anybody can make a pitcher look good, it's the Sox' offense.
  24. Part of me likes the idea and part of me thinks we're simply re-arranging the deck chairs...
  25. A stud for whom? Pitchers looking to up their S.O. average? Or infielders that finally get a chance to play on the purty green grass? Throw him down and in, boys. He'll swing.
