I was at the game and that was one long-ass game. But I will say that was one of the most satisfying finishes I can ever remember. HELLZ YEAH. BACON! Yes, peaks and valleys, but it was worth it. I like the youngsters on our team.

I've been quite happy with Becks the past two weeks. He looks like--for ONCE--one of our young guys who can actually mature into a great player all-around. Getz has looked good too--great knockdown yesterday. Young guys playing well, starting? Me likey.

6/21 Game Thread: Sox @ Cin - 12:10pm - WGN

I'm going to start hiding under the bed when Linebrink comes in. -
Having them down 5-1 in the 8th and losing to one of the worst hitting teams in the NL... ugh. This is extra-ugly. After yesterday's textbook win, it's like this just erased that.

Does anybody know what the hell they were thinking by moving this off of a weekend? That just seemed like insanity to me. It also discourages fans from going to all three games and making a weekend out of it, which I've always done. You could sure tell the difference yesterday, no doubt. Wonder if it's like that today too. Although Thursday is at least closer to a weekend day.

That was one of the most satisfying Sox over Cubs wins I've been to in a while. I always love stealing one at Wrigley. The suicide squeeze? C'mon! That was the kind of smallball I love. I have to say though: it was the least charged and, at first, most sparsely attended Cubs/Sox I've been to. Maybe it was the rainout, maybe it was 'cause it was on a weekday but the playoff atmosphere was just not there yesterday like it usually is. Made getting a seat easy, but it was noticeable. Maybe it'll pick up at the Cell.

I was at this dismal loss yesterday. Having said that, are you kidding? It was his FIRST GAME. A little premature to bury him, dontcha think?

Heading into today, I had written off the season as 2007 redux. This rumor made me rethink it, although he doesn't address our offensive issues. Knowing, though, that we'd be unloading more than a few people before next season, I thought this could be a great move for 2010. Oh well. Oh, and I've never been to a 20-1 loss before. Dismal. Worst since... hey! That double-header against Minnesota in 2007. I was at both. That said, it's nice to see KW willing to make a major move like that.

I'll keep it short and vote yes to blow it up. Keep Buehrle and I'm not done on Floyd or Danks, but I'm not afraid to lose if we're fielding the young ones to see what we have.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 17, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) Ha! No. Thome's 500th HR was in 2007. OK fine. Two highlights. Woot! I'm not seeing how this team is any better. It's essentially the same team, surrounding AJ, Konerko, Dye and Thome. Sure CQ is good and I think Alexi will come around, but other than that I'm not seeing many tools in our arsenal.

Anderson might not join team until Tuesday

Um... has BA seen the Sox lately? He may want to rethink coming back to this trainwreck... -
After yesterday's loss I turned on the FOX game between the Mets and Giants. I NEVER watch baseball unless it's the Sox--it bores me. But I seriously just wanted to see what it looked like when a real team plays. Sure enough, i saw hitting, bunting, stealing, some good D, and even--gulp--Rowand (!!!) hit a homer off Santana. This team reeks even worse than the 2007 team and I expect it to be like that year. You always know it was a crap year when they re-do the game-opening montage at the Cell every year and there's... no highlights from the previous season (save for Buehrle's no-hitter). I couldn't agree more with the poster who said he'd rather watch the no-name youngsters than bad veterans. But at this point I'd rather watch a rebuilding team struggle than a worn-out one decaying.
-
Buehrle was joking about it in the dugout in 2007... when he threw a no-hitter. There is no jinx. He proved it.

Oh another one of those loyalty threads. I have no illusions that this team apparently is 2007 all over again. However, I thought that last year and we won the division and Blackout Tuesday was an all-time great Sox experience that made the so-so season worth it (along with the Cleveland and Detroit games prior to it). The central is back to being the Comedy Central again this year, so who knows? And it is early. If we even repeated though I have no doubt we'd get bulldozed by a real contender, like we did with Tampa Bay. So I have no expectations, which allows me to be pleasantly surprised. But if this kind of skid continues for another month, with the anemic offense, you'll see my attendance dropping. I just feel like I've been watching the same team for three years now, with all the same problems.
-
Dick Allen, you're right on. I have no patience for fans heckling our players. That's Cub fan stuff. And you're right: we would not have been in 2005 what we were without him. He carried us.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) We have Carlos Quentin...he's one of the best players in the American League, but your "synopsis" makes it seem like we are lacking a stud offensive player. Okay you got me there. But besides Quentin? -Dye -CF du jour -Fields (actually he's not bad) -Alexi (TBD) -2B du jour -Konerko -Thome -AJ Just sayin...
-
I'm not about to throw in the towel, considering I thought last year's team was going nowhere and they made it as far as they did. But really, we're in the same spot we've been in for three years: a middle lineup of aging, slow sluggers surrounded by no-names. Only our pitching is noteworthy. That we didn't get a leadoff hitter/CF in the offseason I thought was pretty ominous. That said, last year we managed to win the division, so who knows?
-
I'll take it. 2 out of three and I'm always happy.

Hey, isn't it about time to start up with the "FIRE GREG WALKER" thread? I have to go get my torch and pitchfork out of the closet...

Er, have you been to the green line recently? That neighborhood's gettin re-done. Hell there's even a Starbucks and sub shop on 35th there between the stop and the park. Crazy! -
It happens when they move the island...

Somebody above is spot-on when they say the seats in the foul pole corners are the worst in the park. Personally I don't mind the UD one bit--I've sat in every part of it, but those seats are bad in the corners. Anywhere but there. I'll add that in the hot weather they have the showers on the outfield concourse and misters in one of the gateways near right CF if you want to cool off. Also, in a rain delay, go out to the ramps or the UD--everybody crams into the lower bowl concourse but you've got plenty of space up or out there. -
I've been towed twice because of streetcleanings and in both cases they put the car in a lot somewhere nearby, like a park or a school. No ticket, no fine. Sometimes you get lucky.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) Please this gets Alexei out of this funk. Spending $200 on an authentic white Ramirez jersey looks like a worse investment every passing day. LOL I hear ya. Nothing like buying a sweeeet 2004 All-Star game jersey with the name... Loaiza on the back, two weeks before we traded him. Still love the jersey though. Anyway, last night was like a highlight reel. Any game where Jerry Owens is making a web gem catch, B.A. is hitting the ball and you've got Mark Buehrle on the mound... I'll take it. Interesting to see how they play today. If they play...
-
God, that game was fugly. Like, 2007 fugly. Eesh, I'll be there tonight, comforted only that Buehrles is pitching.
