  1. What's weird about that is that I bought a home white A.J. jersey and a home white Buehrle vest--both authentic--online. Via the Sox' website.
  2. QUOTE (toasty @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) Wonder why Grandstand doesn't list Authentic player jerseys online. maybe they arent allowed? Wow that is really weird--you're right. I know they have them and I'm sure you could custom order one with a player's name but you wouldn't see that looking at the site. Here's the one I got last year--at Grandstand--on Opening Day.
  3. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 09:44 AM) Grown men wearing shirts with other grown men's names on them is strange/creepy/sorry. When you get your driver's license you should have to turn in your jerseys. This is absurd, totally absurd.
  4. As the owner of 10 Sox jerseys, all authentic, I think up above Roc has the right idea--you can't go wrong with a Buehrle jersey because it'll still be relevant even after he's gone because he's a Sox icon. I have one (the home vest) and it was a good investment. I also have an A.J. jersey for the same reason. I would suggest that too. I think Beckham's a safe bet as well. I too, got burned when I bought a Loaiza 2004 All-Star jersey... and he was traded 2 weeks later. I still wear it--it looks great--but lesson learned. I almost bought a Brandon McCarthy one in 2005--phew, bullet dodged! Paulie's another sure fire one, but everybody has those. I say you can't go wrong with Buehrle or A.J. Even Jenks maybe.
  5. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) oh god, its like giving a dog a squeaky toy... LMAO. I couldn't have said it better myself. BAD idea. Not only does it give Ozzie a whole new set of opportunities to embarrass himself and the club, what do we possibly think we'll learn from him via tweets? He's bored? Wow. Thanks for sharing that. He's hungry? Awesome. I agree with KW on this: shut it down, or make it offseason only.
  6. I kind of view Buehrle starting on opening day as kind of a tradition at this point. I mean, when was the last time he wasn't the Opening Day starter? Oh yeah: 2007. Gulp.
  7. Full disclosure: I have a '59 Aparacio jersey. Not sure how I feel about this.
  8. I like it when it's Buehrle. I didn't feel right when he wasn't the opener.
  9. Without breaking out individual feats from the '05 Series, my list is pretty easy (and in order): 1) The World Series - all of it 2) Buehrle's perfect game (I was there) 3) Blackout Tuesday (I was there) 4) Iguchi's homer off Wells in the '05 2nd playoff game (I was there) 5) Buehrle's no-hitter in 07 6) AJ's walk-off homer against the Dodgers in '05
  10. I vote for move on as well. Not that I don't like Thome, but the idea of that middle of the lineup again... I can't bear it.
  11. I'd welcome him back. I thought he was damn near our MVP this year. Hittin homers (?!!?), batting .300, hustling. Not the greatest outfielder but neither was Dye. But geez the idea of a blank in the 1-hole starting next season? Please God, not again...
  12. Well, if any of you venture east of the expressway (heading over to the Green Line stop), that whole area has been transformed. There's even a Jimmy John's and a Starbucks. I think there's even a huge open lot right there across from ITT. But yeah, having to hike over to Halsted now before or after the game does suck. RIP Jimbo's.
  13. Don't care about the games but i DAMN well be tuning in to see this.
  14. LMAO at the Onion story. The Onion never disappoints.
  15. Oh, please. It's laughable that on a team with people like Konerko you would claim HE out-hustled Pods? I'm not talking about stealing bases, I'm talking overall hustle and spirit. Like I said, bring Pods back. I like the attitude.
  16. Was there ANYBODY who hustled more this year than Pods? When he first came back I thought it was a sign of how desperate we were; by the end of the season he was arguably our best player. Bring him back. He's a leader. I realize we have space issues with the outfield, but he seems like the kind of guy who will play any role without b****ing.
  17. I love the guy, but no way. We need to get away from the big boppers; we've got enough power. Especially one who can't field, can't run, can't do anything but crank home runs.
  18. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-joe09.article So of course picking up the paper this morning this is the first thing I turn to because it's all we talk about here sometimes. What would he say? Move Alexei back to 2nd? Becks to SS? Get Figgins for 3rd? Keep Pods, lose Dye? Make Freddie rake the infield between innings? Suprisingly, his two main points were: keep Jenks (?!?!) and a rather cryptic shot at Rios, something about "more work and earlier nights." As far as Jenks goes, I think the consensus here is we should have shipped him at the beginning of THIS season, when he was still at peak value. His contention, though, is that closers are hard to find and Jenks' problem isn't that he's over the hill, it's that he's coming into camp too poorly conditioned (out of shape). As for Rios, though, I'm not sure what the comments about Canada and earlier nights mean. Perhaps somebody here could enlighten me. He's right about Freddy being a steal, though, and if he stays healthy we could have an absolutely dominating rotation next year. Thoughts?
  19. What dooms him isn't his play, but his 2010 salary. He won't be back. But thanks for some awesome years, JD.
  20. Um, did a sniper take out their catcher just as he caught the pitch? How is this humanly possible?
  21. I like Kotsay and want him back. I also want Pods back--that man HUSTLES. I could easily let go of PK and with Dye, either ship him out or make him the DH.
  22. Yeah I don't get the Jenks-bashing either. So he's had a bad year. After all he's given us, people are quick to turn on him. I don't get it.
  23. You cannot put the 2009 2nd half all on Dye's shoulders. This team has been under-achieving from the start. And let's not forget that horrible, horrible start, which made it look like we were going to have another 2007 again. The thing that will stand out to me most this season is the absolute absence of any kind of significant win streak. What's the longest we've had? Four? As Stone said, every team will at least go on one tear during a season; good teams will do two or three. But we just never did that this season, for whatever reason. It was somewhat like 2007 in that it was pick-your-poison: when the pitching was there the bats went silent (ask Freddy about Sunday); went the bats were there the pitching tanked; when the pitching and hitting were there the defense would blow it; and that's when the bullpen wasn't blowing games. That said, while it's a disappointing season, it sure ain't 2007, and we sure have a lot to look forward to in 2010. We went from having too many holes to fill to now having too many guys to fill those holes (in the OF), which is nice. We got Peavey. Beckham turned out to be a stud. So I'll casually enjoy the final week, but my eyes are already on 2010.
  24. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) we waited a year too late to trade jenks... i said it before the season that we should have shopped him while we could still get a good chunk in return for him...now, he will be expensive, another year closer to FA, another year older, and another year worse for any team that is looking at him...There is a perfect team to shop him to no farther than 8 miles north...but i'm not sure they have the young players we'd be looking to get in return.... at any rate i hope KW has learned that the real way to build bullpens is internally and not by signing higher priced veterans like linebrink and dotel cuz with middle relievers you end up paying for a whole lot of mediocrity, when you can typically get a whole lot of mediocrity from guys from your system Sadly, I agree--we waited a year too late.
