You sure the vests went away? I could swear seeing them last season? If so, stupid. Those jerseys are awesome.
-
I think we have the coolest uniforms in baseball--I have 'em all. In fact, picked up a 1960 Fox "away" Jersey this season on opening day. Awesome. That's the thing, if you have the current ones, you can always buy classic jerseys to mix it up a bit. But if it ain't broke... As for sleeveless home jerseys, who said they went away? I have one, with Buehrle's name on it. From two years ago.

I'm not so worried about Colon as The Count, if only because it's been soooo long since he's pitched consistently well. That said, we're only a couple of weeks in, so it's a bit early to push the panic button. Of more concern is the inability to eat up innings, which will tax our bullpen. The optimist in me says: hey, Contreras was pretty bad first half '05 and then became unhittable. I'm holding off. Not for long, but for now.

Why can't we have this guy? http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/04/21/...tr=HOME_4959337

This is great. 3 out of 4 from the Rays? Nice!

Buehrle rules. That's why I have his jersey. He is Mr. White Sox to me.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) First time in MLB history teammates have hit "century" (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700) homeruns in the same game. That was my question, and that is awesome. Is anybody else suprised to see Paulie tearing it up so early? He's usually a slow starter...
-
Well so much for the hitting drought that was front-page news last week. And that's fine with me. You know that there's a rip in the time/space fabric when Brian Anderson steals a base. Geez remember not so long ago when the Tigers were the worst in the league but they would still beat us all the time? Since '05 it's like they're a tune-up tool for us, LOL. So far so good this year, I like it.

I think we need to stop the hand-wringing about Alexi. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't everybody deriding the "Cuban Missle" this time last year because he couldn't hit anything? By the end of the season he was The Man, cranking grand slams out to save our playoff hopes. I think it's a cold weather thing with him.

Yes pretty much like the 2008 team, without the missing pitcher. Sigh. Well, I'll go out and a limb here and say I can't blame KW or Ozzie for this because... We're stuck with this lineup for now. Think about it: who are we gonna trade to get that leadoff speedster/CF/whatever? Konerko? Oof. Thome? Nope. That leaves Dye. And that's only if he has enough value to somebody to give up somebody to fill that hole. We've tried here at the office over and over to "trade" our way into a team more like 2005 and we always fail because you run into that wall: you can't unload Thome/Konerko for the speed we need. Too much contract/money involved. What we did this year was essentially put younger guys around that same aging core, save for the Wise experiment in CF, which became necessary when Owens crashed and burned for the last time. The only way I could see us landing a savior is if we packaged a starting pitcher, which I think KW is loathe to do, 'cause they're hard enough to come by. Let's be fair though: the top and bottom of the order ain't doing s*** either, which just highlights the middle-order woes more. On another note, yes: I too have noticed the bad team habit of taking fastballs straight down the pipe--that seem like cookies--yet swinging wildly at first pitch breaking balls and other junk. Ouch. Seen enough of that the last two years. Does Walker not see this?
-
Steve Stone could just talk about baseball period and it'd be listenable. How that guy calls pitches--he did it last night--is almost eerie. That said, it's good news/bad news with him and the Hawkeroo. Sticking them together is like buying a Maserati but then painting it brown and plastering it with bumper stickers. I would've rather seen Stone/DJ. If I have to listen to one more "Back when I was playing, cars couldn't go up hills!" type story from the Hawkeroo, I'm going to scream.

I don't know man, every time I see him he's blanking us. Here. I even remember a game in 2005 where he started us and blanked us, yet we won the game because the bullpen walked in two of our guys, LOL.
-
Didn't Alexi start slow last year in the cold weather? That said, BAD NEWS -It's baaaaaack... station-to-station baseball that lives or dies with the middle or the order -Dwayne Wise probably wouldn't be getting booed TWO GAMES IN if it wasn't all strikeouts almost, and he could bunt better than a little-leaguer -Does anybody at this point on this team have anything resembling speed? The only person I saw trying to steal last night got gunned down. GOOD NEWS (Maybe) -So far, so good with the pitching. If Buehrle is all over the place yet only gives up two runs, that's a good sign. Only two runs last night: good sign. Linebrink looked great -Greinke always gives us fits, so no surprise there -Losing sucks, but we can still take the series which is all that matters If the leadoff position turns into an anchor in the first month or two, expect to see JD packing his bags. I can't see Ozzie or KW letting this drag out for long.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Obviously Crede deserves a ton of credit for '05, but Frank is the greatest offensive player in franchise history, IMO Frank is on a different level than Joe... with that said, Crede still deserves a ton of applause his first AB, then it can pipe down. Also, Crede is with one of our main rivals. That may be, but Frank was not instrumental in not only saving us from our September skid but also in key plays in the playoffs World Series as well. And not just with his bat. Moot anyway, since no, I doubt he's gonna get an ovation every time he shows up, because he is on another team now. I certainly don't blame him for that, as he's been a question mark for years now. I wish him the best career ever, except when they're playing us. Which I think is fair.

Non-game Opening Day Questions/Observations. Answers needed!
LVSoxFan replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oops I forgot about the new scoreboard. Yes, it was impressive, but I really liked the old-school feel of the old one. And they flash off the pitch speed too quickly. Did anybody notice that the center-left scoreboard seemed... dim? Or maybe it was just the sunshine. But I could barely read it standing in front of it. I caught the fly-by before you guys saw it because I was stuck in the line, LOL. So I literally saw them coming from miles away. That's always awesome. BTW I think the "singer", if I'm not mistaken, is the guy who sings the hook on "Superstar." Lupe's obviously a rapper. Nice answer about them handing out stuff... that makes sense now. I had a polish, as always, and am glad to report that some things never change, nor should they ever. Still the greatest. -
Yes, a sweet victory in the end for what was a pretty impressive game. So much for smallball, LOL--although I WILL say it was more than sweet to see Fields actually LAY DOWN A BUNT. I'd forgotten what that looks like. Here are my questions, for those of you who were there too. a) WTF with those LINES getting in? I've been to five Opening Days in a row and have NEVER seen lines at EACH gate 200, 300 deep. Please tell me that's not going to be an every day thing now! B) OK, so the whole new Gate 5 building--what is it? I thought the point was it was to have a bar/restaurant/store of some type. When I asked one of the security guys what it was there for--I mean, it looks nice and all--he said they wanted to get rid of the ramps because everybody kept smoking on them. Although maybe he was pulling my leg. c) Prices. Did anyone notice anything go up besides the tickets? I noticed beer was a quarter more, at least at the stands. d) How was Lupe Fiasco? I'd have been there, but I was in that LINE. And RIP Jimbo's, which without a doubt is officially gone, after surviving at least two years on fumes. Sad to walk past it yesterday. On a side note, I noticed that some players have never changed their songs, LOL. Paulie, Thome...
-
Well, when Big Frank came back as an A, he got a standing O. Then he hit a homer, and got another standing O. When he hit his second one of the game, though, we booed him. He was probably laughing when we did; we were. We owe Crede damn near EVERYTHING for what he did in '05; I expect him to get similar classy treatment here. I never want to see us act like Cleveland fans did towards Thome.
-
I was wondering the same thing. Unless it's just showing the same thing.
-
Sorry but I liked the old out-of-town scoreboard better. It was old-school and I liked that. It's not like there's a shortage of digital displays bombarding us every game at The Cell. Having said that, what's the deal with the Gate 5 thing? Did they finish? There's a bar there, right? And Jimbo's is officially goneski, right? I drove by USCF in March on a Sunday and they were working on the Gate 5 structure even on a Sunday... so is it done yet?

Are the Sox moving Opening Day to Tuesday?
LVSoxFan replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) Tuesday it's just supposed to be flurries while on Monday it's supposed to be snow. I bet they cancel and play Tuesday. Yup. I remember being at a game in 2006 the first week and the wind chill was -20. It was totally effin miserable. The rumor was they were going to move it to Milwaukee inside the dome, but it never happened. They should have. -
ANYHOW... I totally hope I'm at the game Obama's at. I mean, think of it: the President of the United States throwing out the first pitch, and not only is he from here, he's a Sox fan?!?! Awesome.

I've broken my wrist, twice. There's no reason it should have any impact on his hitting, moving forward. He'll be fine.

Every Year I Plan on Following Spring Training ... but
LVSoxFan replied to greg775's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) I thought Corpseball was defined as always swinging for the fences and then slamming the bat down when you pop up instead? I'm not sure Owens is strong enough to either swing for the fences or slam the bat down, so I don't think he fits either requirement. Maybe I had it wrong; I always thought it meant the emotionless, zombie-like ball we played, like in all of 2007. You get the idea. The guy has no fire. -
I have absolutey no doubt he will attend at least one Sox game this summer. At least.
