Zambrano: Sox One of Three Teams He Would Go To
LVSoxFan replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yo calm down everybody! I was just throwing it out there to see what the reaction was. Like I said: two years ago I would have thought--get him. Now, not so much. And if Coop is badmouthing him like that, well, that just about does it, doesn't it? -
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/rumors/post/Th...?urn=mlb,190843 You know, two, three years ago I would have said: scoop this guy up! How great would that be to have another stud in the bullpen. Nowadays? I dunno. Besides his selfish attitude and head-case-itis, that's an awfully big salary to pay for a guy who really didn't deliver much this year. Or, is he just the kind of "project" that needs a Don Cooper overhaul and next thing you know we have another ace? Thoughts? I'm leaning no (I also don't know what we'd have to trade for him) but it is intriguing.

Guys I'm trying to remain objective here, and as far as blame goes... I'd say the team. KW, as much as we like to bash him, made two HUGE moves this year; unfortunately, Peavy might not have been in time. But after our awful April, I thought we'd be in the cellar. The fact that we're not is almost a miracle to me. Who knew that Jenks would start fading, or that Linebrink would be the 2009 version of McDougal? Our offense, I believe, is the #1 culprit, followed closely by the insane amount of errors in the infield. Don't know how you fix that. All in all I'm happy with the infield, I have no idea why they keep doing this kind of stuff. As for Contreras, what can you do? We were anchored to him--nobody else would take him. Maybe we have one last big streak in us that can put us in the last-minute situation we saw last year. If not, I'm pretty confident about next year. But definitely: Dye, Konerko or Thome have GOT TO GO. We need some fire in this lineup, personality-wise.

This is brutal. Honestly I don't blame Ozzie. Errors and pitchers giving up walk-off dingers isn't his fault. He can't play FOR them. What's frustrating is this team has the talent; what they don't have is any kind of consistency. And that's killing us.

I thought PK should have been gone a couple of years ago but not sure that we can unload him. I'm tired of this "quiet leader" myth.
-
Trade Jenks while he still has value. It's gonna be Thome or Dye; I think Konerko has a few years still, doesn't he? And right of refusal? I'd say s***: keep Pods, he's cheap and he's been awfully good since coming back. Oh God and Jose: see ya! IMO it's between Thome and Dye and if I had to guess they'll unload Dye. Keep AJ for God's sake; he's still hitting and one of the smartest catchers around.

OMG this is like a LaTroy Hawkins-caliber performance. -

This is like the anti-05 El Duque inning. What a trainwreck! -

OMG he's melting down before our very eyes. PAINFUL. -
I'm not ready to give up the ghost just yet but losing series to bottom-feeders like Baltimore is unacceptable. There's no reason we shouldn't win the division this year; beyond that, I'm not gambling on it. But crap games like today don't bode well for us. We've got enough POTENTIAL talent; does anybody really think there's serious holes anymore? What we do with it is another story; 2004 comes to mind. We need, as somebody here said last week, a monster run--some kind of long winning streak, which we haven't had yet this year.

What is your general feeling about the White Sox?
LVSoxFan replied to striker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Underachieving. The fifth starter problem--be it Contreras or Colon--seems to nag away. When we got Peavy I figured if Contreras can get it together, we're in good shape. That hasn't happened. The defense is the big worry; pitching and defense, pitching and defense wins championships, as we saw in '05. The defense is killing us. There's plenty of upside: Beckham, having Rios now, Scotty having a career year, Paulie being solid. But continual defensive errors will kill us. We're better than I thought we'd be after April, but we should be a lot better. The talent is obviously there, what we lack is any kind of consistency. Exemplified when we take both series when playing the best of the East and best of the West, and then flop versus... Cleveland. I'm still hoping for the division but not much beyond that. Next year, though, oughta be interesting. -
MARK BUEHRLE PITCHES THE 18TH PERFECT GAME IN HISTORY

I was there today with my mom--her first game this year. Un-freakin-believable! Wise? Hero for life! -
Wow that is awesome. And they even let you on the grass.
-
I don't blame Pods for that one. It happens sometimes. His offense has kept us in games.
-
If it involved Becks, this trade, I'm glad we said no. I think he's going to have a very bright future with us. When was the last time we had a youngster just jump right out of the box like that? Not worth losing him.

THORTON! YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Scott. Bye Scott. PHEW.

Waving Konerko home? Always a bad idea...

God I was sitting right on the rail along the third base line as he walked one, then walked one, then loaded 'em up and then the granny, which you knew was coming. One positive I took from all this is that Ozzie wasted no time in yanking him. He seems to not have the patience for them to "work it out" or work on their confidence by leaving them in. It sure seemed like it was gonna be a long day with not one out in the second and looking up to see 9-2. And then... at least we came roaring back. The April Sox would have just played corpseball, yet there they were, right back in it. Not sure what to do with Richard/Poreda--Richard obviously has the stuff but seems to be a head case. Poreda did indeed look good... in fact, the good vibe from Ozzie yanking Richard early was sort of trampled by him taking out Poreda when he was shutting out the Tribe, only to have the next guy give up the game winning runs.

I agree. This is starting to feel like last year, like we can at least win the division. GOOD PLACE TO BE IN! I never thought we'd go that far last year. And Contreras? Amazing. This is like the 2005 all-star rebound tour! (Thinking of Pods). I'll take it!

Having been to seven games already this year, which is low by my standards, I'd personally like to tell KW to shove it. I average 20-30 games per year (40 in '05) and one thing I've noticed is that the park has grown less fan-friendly year after year, price-wise. Of course we have the insulting tier system, where an April game against KC is $33 for bleachers but of course for the Cubs they're magically $40 for the same seat. Granted the Cubs series is always a sellout but then to make the LA series premium?!?!? In the middle of the week? No wonder you got 20,000 fans only. And of course, beer prices up, parking up, everything up, up, up even when we knew going into the season that the economy was the worst in my lifetime. Half-price promotions few and far between... really, this is all a mystery to KW? Really? Add to that the Sox didn't exactly get off to a rousing start (although looking much better now) and we have our mystery solved here. If the Sox were more flexible as an organization they would realized going into the season that with the economy they could work on the fly and make the Sox a budget-saving alternative to the Cubs or other activities... drop the ticket prices, offer family packages, realize that a full park with discounted tix is better than a half-empty one at premium prices. But none of that happened. And yet you whine about "support" when you've offered none in these dismal economic times. Sit down and STFU.

I'm proud of him too. Most people thought his career was over and not only does he come right back (okay, a bit early), but loses all that weight and now look at him. In an era of spoiled brat overpaid stars, he's a breath of fresh air.

Dye reminds me of a modern-day Harold Baines.

My favorite plays were (I was there): Alexei's 360 spin to throw for the DP, Alexei's toss to 3rd to get Lee out, and Alexei's 2-run homer. Hey, Alexei! BTW I'm finally over .500, people!

It was Africa hot, dude. At least on the concourse in LCF where we were. Apparently in the UD it was 20 degrees cooler.
