QUOTE (Felix @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) Thome looks like Paulie with that goatee. Nice hit though, and great job by Dye for going first to third. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) He makes me think of Paul Konerko for some reason. Fully agree

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 07:25 PM) Thome's Fu Manchu looks badass. Fu Manchu: Goatee:

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) I hate the fact he's playing against a lefty pitcher. Agreed. I'd much rather have Anderson in CF and Wise in LF, but that would never happen because Griffey is a legend and has a bunch of gold gloves.
-
I absolutely hate Ken Griffey Jr's presence on this team. There is no universe where he should be in CF when Anderson is in the game.

QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) We might just need to stretch our idea of what playable conditions are. Guarantee the Bears will be playing. I also guarantee that the Bears are in Carolina, not Chicago.
-
Yes, I think so. The important thing is that it's named after Bill Veeck, not this corporate s***.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) An Australian and a Minnesotian? Ugh, Happy Birthday anyway. Please don't confuse me with the Minnesota natives here. I'm much less naive. Thanks though

mmm.. legal beer Thanks guys! Happy birthday to you as well, DBAH0

I'm bumping this thread just so it will not be difficult to find tomorrow, when the drinking begins right as my final class ends.

Terrible logic, but if you really want to take a worse offensive player, I guess that's your choice.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 11:10 PM) Griffey's bat is better then Swisher Wrong. Griffey since joining the Sox: .256/.340/.354. Swisher on the season: .228/.343/.432 Even if you want to just look at Swisher in August (or September, although that would be rather useless given the size): August: .224/.337/.539 September: .250/.304/.600 Hell, even if you want to look at Griffey's whole season (.247/.353/.417), Swisher is still the better offensive player (albeit more slightly). Really, it's not even close.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) Totally missed that, If thats the case Im completely against the Penguin being in the movie. Philip Seymour Hoffman is an awesome actor.

I'm shocked he wasn't high, to be honest. Rowand is and was a fantastic player. I always loved watching him play.
-
If Griffey continues to play center field, something is seriously wrong with this team. With Konerko down now, there is absolutely no excuse for not putting Anderson in CF. Hell, there was no excuse to be starting Griffey over him in the first place, but this just emphasizes this. That's all I'm going to say.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) Do you realize how big that DH is?? Man pennant races are scary. Let's face it, Minnie is going to sweep KC. The games probably won't be even close. KC is in the tank. They have quit on their little dictator of a manager who has done a piss poor job this season. Hope we bring our A game(s) tomorrow. With the way the Twins are playing lately, they'd be lucky to sweep a little league team. -
QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) When it is a toss up, I'll take character, experience, and 10 gold gloves. Who is saying it's a toss up? Griffey is, at most, the third best CF on the team when you factor in both offense and defense.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 08:51 AM) Hard to argue with this lineup, but thematically, there is no one from the team that actually won a world series in the past 100 years. I'm not certain where anyone would play, but that seems odd. Frank Thomas has a ring from 2005.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Hahahahaha. He has 10 gold gloves. Seriesly.

Official 2008-2009 College Football Thread
Felix replied to Heads22's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Gophers improved to 2-0 after a 42-17 win on the road against Bowling Green. It was 21-17 going into the fourth quarter, but Minnesota scored 21 to finish things off right. This is the same Bowling Green team that owned us last year in the Metrodome and that upset #25 Pittsburgh in week one. We've already doubled last years win total, and it's nice to see the defense step things up. -
Better yet, why not just bench Griffey and replace him with an equivalent hitter and far superior fielder in Brian Anderson? Eh, who am I kidding? They'd never bench Griffey. He has 10 gold gloves!!!!1

It's not like we're in a playoff race or anything

Official Recruiting Thread II
Felix replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) http://illinois.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=843421 There you go. That link btw is to the only recruiting rankings that matter, the "enrolled team recruiting rankings". That is, the top recruiting classes now that we know who qualifed for school. Illinois suffered a major loss in Patrick Nixon not qualifying, but it was their only loss and thus the moved from 23rd on signing day up to 17th now. Notre Dame and Alabama swapped the 1 and 2 spots. (I posted this in the college football thread due to a discussion me and rockraines were having, but it belongs in here too obviously). Yep. Our recruiting class got rocked. It looks like Gray is going to try and get readmitted for spring semester however, which is somewhat encouraging to hear. http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/27739154.html -
The trade was bad and basically forced Ozzie to use Griffey as our CF, despite the fact that he's the third (possibly lower) best CF on our team. 'Nuff said. That link is awesome though. It was great when it first was posted, and is still good now. Thanks for posting it
