QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) The move that put this team into contention was Ken Griffey Jr. Anyone who doesn't agree just doesn't watch enough baseball. Yeah, we weren't in contention before that deal. In fact, he's been doing fantastic for the Sox so far hitting .239/.321/.304 with a grand total of one extra-base hit. That just screams "person that put the team in contention" to me.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) That depends on the criteria you use. Based solely on saves, Thigpen had more than any other reliever, ever. No argument from me if you want to look for other stats and reasons to name Gagne's season better. It will be fairly easy to do and if I wasn't a Sox fan, I just might do that. But I'm a Sox fan and used saves as the bottom line for a closer. Based on a terrible stat for evaluating seasons by individual players, then yes, Thigpen had a better season. Based off of anything else, it's not even close. I say this as a Sox fan who likes Thigpen a ton more than Gagne. One could even argue (although I won't be the one to do it) that Gagne had two straight seasons better than anything Thigpen had. A 251:36 K:BB ratio over two seasons? Ridiculous. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Gagne also did that season with a needle in his arse. No argument from me, but until we know without a doubt which players did use and which didn't, there's no point in discrediting a certain players past performances. Either way, this probably isn't the thread for this. Thigpen was a great player and deserves all the credit he gets.

Since we're talking all-time favorite Sox players...

QUOTE (oralsoxpodcast @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) But for reals...Craig Graebeck. Who doesn't love the Little Hurt? -
Gagne's 2003 disagrees, and that's without putting any research into it. Thigpen had a great season, but it's not even close between the two.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Agreed. I was at the game in Baltimore during 2006 when he hit a 9th inning grand slam to win it. Most certainly one of my favorite games I've ever been to. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) Better avoid the game thread then. Seriesly. I do, but it carries over to other threads

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) I think many Soxtalk posters are disillusioned with your first-place White Sox, and many others are upset with the rampant negativity. ^^ I'm a little bit of both here, but for the most part I'm pretty tired of people being so damned negative over every play.

I fully agree with this selection.

Justin Morneau.

It's a sad, sad thing that Pablo is on the list.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) Curious however, what the f*** was he doing driving a 97 Maxima? Classy guy?

What the hell happened to our pitching/defense?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) What's your point ? You can give me more exact figures on what his batting average next year will be ? No, but saying he'll hit anywhere from .275 to .350 isn't really saying anything. If you're going to try and make a prediction, at least be a bit more specific. It's like saying someone is going to hit anywhere from 20 to 50 home runs next year, does that tell you anything?

What player would you most like to have seen play for Sox?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 08:40 AM) In a full season he'll possibly hit anywhere from .275-.350. Just like the Sox will win anywhere from 60 wins to 110 wins, right? QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) Wow...it's buy Griffey out and let him walk by a mile to me. I just don't see the arguments for signing a 39 year old Ken Griffey where his best positions are LF, RF and DH and he's inferior to the players you have there now (Quentin, Dye, and Thome). Fully agree. I'm surprised it's even being talked about. There's no way you can rely on Griffey in CF for a full season, and he's not going to replace Thome, Quentin, or Dye as he's not nearly as good as any of them. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) Buyout Griffeys option and sign him to a 3 year deal. Why would anyone sign an injury prone 39-year old to a 3 year deal?

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) Also hitting .308 close and late. In what, 5 AB? (sorry, looked it up and it was ~20.. still not big enough to mean anything)

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) Benched yes, cut no. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 11:42 PM) I will be the first to admit I was hating on both of them and even wanted Swish benched or merely released.

QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) Anyone else heard the rumors that they are trying to line up Johnny Depp to play the Riddler in the next film? That would be awesome.

I dislike this trade strongly, but it would become a much better deal if he played RF/1B.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Coming from someone honoring Swisher in his sig. I've had this sig since the Swisher trade was done, too lazy to make a replacement for it.
-
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) Getting something for nothing isnt necassarily bad. And Griffey offers a little more than just something IMO The addition of Griffey means that Ozzie will feel obligated to start him in center field, where I think I have more range than he does at this point. This would be a fine deal if it meant moving Griffey or Dye to 1B and putting whichever one that doesn't move in RF, but that's not going to happen.

f***ing terrible

I don't care what we give up, I hate this trade.
