No one has said Roy Williams (Cowboy, not Lion) So I will.

I got it for my birthday a few years ago. Played it a few times.. prefer regular monopoly.

I watch it, but I don't follow any of the names or anything along those lines. I just watch because I find it impressive that they can go up those hills at 30 mph, and wish that I could get the 'roids and do it myself.

QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:26 AM) Who? Gallagher? 3rd starter at best. I'm no scout, but Beane has been an excellent evaluator of talent throughout the years and has constantly traded "ace" starters at the right time in their careers. They got some solid prospects in return, and he wasn't giving Harden away for nothing here.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 07:39 AM) i hate when people say this because it's not at all freaking true. ozuna was great for us. unless a .290 average is now somehow considered sucking. It is when you don't take walks and can't hit the ball out of the infield, all with bad defense at multiple infield positions. He was "great" in 2006. Thats all. (also, hilariously, he only hit .290 once in his time with us.. 2006)

QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:18 AM) Listen, I'm hoping that Harden takes a dump...but do you think the Cubs really traded anything good? Yes.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 01:24 AM) no your name is Felix; sorry if Alex is on the birthcard, your name is Felix. If you say so QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 06:25 AM) PA who started this thread is an Alex, and aboz is an Alex. Lotta' dang Alex's around here. That there are I never thought of it as that popular of a name.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) Parents just had no creativity back when I got named a Jim. Truth to tell though, I'm a Jim down to my core, so I don't mind. To make up for my parents lack of creativity, I've saddled both of my kids with outlandishly novel names and they hate me for it. Dweezil? Moon Unit? DIVA THIN MUFFIN?!

I'm Alex. I know Heads is one of the other Alex's, but I don't know who the third is.

You should be happy about it Jose. Ozuna sucked.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) The Brewers didn't have room for LaPorta on the roster within the next year though, and it's doubtful they had room in 2 years. He's a 1Bman playing the outfield, and they already have that in Braun. Fielder's not going anywhere, and Corey Hart is pretty damn solid all around; dealing LaPorta is not a bad move at all and, given Milwaukee's history of drafting, the two first round picks they'll get in return along with the other two first rounders they'll almost undoubtedly receive for Sheets should basically guarantee that they'll get a prospect equal in talent to LaPorta. It's a very good move by them. I agree that they had no room for LaPorta. However, I think they could have gotten more than a half year of an ace for him. I think Cleveland did a very good job here and got prime talent for a pitcher that they were losing anyway, and I think that Milwaukee overpaid because they smell the postseason. Ultimately, the Brewers will likely make the playoffs but they'll regret giving up LaPorta for a half year of CC.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) What has LaPorta accomplished for the Brewers that this future pick might not? It's ridiculous to say that whatever player they get with that pick cannot be as good as LaPorta, especially considering LaPorta has not had an mlb at-bat yet. He's actually done things in the minor leagues to show that he might not flame out completely. No, he's not a guaranteed thing, but he's much more guaranteed than a player that they don't even know will sign, let alone produce in the minors well enough to make the majors. I'm not saying that the picks can't be as good as LaPorta, I'm saying its unlikely that they will be. LaPorta was a top 10 talent when he was drafted and anyone that the Brewers take with theirs pick will not be a top 10 talent coming into the draft. Does it mean that they won't be as good as LaPorta? Not really, but it means they're much more likely to have a lower ceiling than he does.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) How many more tickets will they sell now? How much payroll will they add in the offseason because of those tickets? How many more wins will it get them next year? How many more fans will that bring in? It's a great feedback loop, one that the Sox started when they won the the WS and upped themselves into the top 5-7 payrolls. There are more variables to this move then just a pure talent for talent swap and that's why I think the Brewers come out winners. Which is why if it guaranteed them a World Series ring, I think it's an awesome move. It would bring in a lot of money for the franchise and would allow them to spend more money on players, although I doubt that they would do that. However, I think they need much more than just Sabathia to make a run at it, and giving up that much talent for a rental is just too much in my opinion.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) I understand what you're saying here, but your premise is almost as if there are no more players available to draft. As if they can't just draft another player next season that they will control for 6 years. Certainly LaPorta is well-regarded and more of a certainty at this stage in his career than the player they will draft next June with their first compensation pick, the difference is not that far off. I think Cleveland actually should have gotten more. No, my premise is that they won't be able to get the same type of talent in the draft that they had in LaPorta. He was a 7th overall pick and has played like it since coming into the majors. They can't replace that with a sandwich pick. Yes, they can get a talented player still, but it's not replacing LaPorta in either talent or certainty. I see why Milwaukee did it, but I don't agree with their reasoning. That being said, I might feel different if I was in their shoes and hadn't been to the playoffs in nearly two decades.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 07:52 AM) Yea, but as I told my good friend Joe Morgan, (who also doesn't seem to understand how baseball works): if CC leaves the Brewers get the compensation picks, probably 2 of the top 50. That replaces their prospects right there. It's the same reason the Sox traded for Cabrera even though they probably weren't going to resign him. This is a great trade for the Brewers. A sandwich pick at the end of the round doesn't replace Matt LaPorta, who was the seventh overall pick. They gave up six years of a player who is going to hit the majors in a year or two for a half a year of an ace pitcher. If they had any chance of resigning CC it'd be a much better deal, but as is I'd much rather get the six years of a player than the half year of a pitcher and unless the pitcher is the one thing that hands them a World Series, I don't like the deal (especially for a small market team that needs to value young players in their first six years of major league service time more than larger markets).

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) I don't care what type of prospect Laporta is, to give up mainly a AA prospect for a difference maker like Sabathia,is a steal for Brewers in my book. I strongly disagree, but thats besides the point. As per the actual suggestion, pitching isn't our concern right now. Why would we spend valuable prospects from our already thin farm system to add something we don't really need?

QUOTE (Cubano @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) I do not why Guillen has Anderson second against a lefty and Alexei 8th or 9th. He's racist in favor of the white players.
-
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) That's too critical. Sure, they're giving up more than they'll get in draft picks, but that's the price you pay to get the reigning CY winner for half a season (and a completely deserving CY, too). He's way, WAY more valuable than Linebrink. I'm not going to say he IS the missing piece, but if they get lucky with Sheets's health, I wouldn't rule it out. I'm not denying that they got a good player (or that CC is much more valuable than Linebrink), but they gave up a younger, cheaper player that would be worth a lot more than a half year of a Cy Young pitcher. I understand their view, and I realize that LaPorta didn't have a spot on the Brewers current roster with Braun and Fielder taking his two positions. I also realize that this move is big for their fan base and is a money maker for them. However, they aren't going to resign him and they gave up a player who's going to be tearing apart pitching in a year or two for the league minimum. Personally, I think 6 years of LaPorta is more valuable than a half season of CC. Just me though.
-
There's no way CC resigns with the Brewers, and really, I find this to be a stupid deal. They gave up a top prospect for a half year of CC. They did the same thing with Linebrink, and it was stupid then and remains to be stupid now. Maybe if he was the one piece keeping them from a World Series would it be smart, but thats not the case. Sure, the picks from CC are nice compensation at the end of the year, but they aren't nearly as certain as a player like LaPorta is (which isn't to say LaPorta is certain, but a player that has already done stuff in the minors is more of a sure thing than picks for players they don't even know will be around).

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) Did I say he didn't deserve to be in the AL? No, I said I was embarrassed that Kevin Youkilis is the AL starting first baseman. Compared to what the NL could trot out, yeah, this is pretty substandard. He's got a higher OPS than all but 2 NL first basemen, and really, comparing any batter to how Lance Berkman or Albert Pujols have done this year is unfair.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) I'm kind of embarrassed that Kevin Youkilis is the ALs starting first baseman. Yeah, he's been horrible this year. For the record, he has the 2nd best OPS for an AL 1B this year behind only Jason Giambi. He's very deserving.

Happy birthday wite, even if you're from the Dakotas

The more telling stat is the 4-20 (or whatever the stat is) when they haven't hit a HR. A lot of teams win when they hit home runs, the difference is that they also win when they don't hit home runs.
