I'm a Broadway fan, but I'm that sort of guy, liking people that rely on finesse more than the overpowering fastball sort of thing.

QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) how is that not great? thats pretty solid Because it was completely average driven IIRC.

This list is a joke, don't worry. There's no chance in hell Billy King is the third best GM in all of sports, nor that Kevin McHale is the best.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) Hey Felix, you got any info on Indiana? I know Big 10 play hasn't started yet, but I was wondering if you have heard anything about them. I'm basically clueless about the rest of the Big 10, which is why I'm looking for websites to check up on daily (preferably related to teams I care about, such as the Big 10 in general and Minnesota specifically). I know that Michigan won it last year, and that the Gophers are usually competitive in Big 10 play. It seems like the stuff I wanted is on Baseball America, but insider only

Have a nice life Briggs. It was nice having him in the system, but thats just what it is... a system. He can be replaced.

QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 08:14 AM) Because he has the most big league experience, and you may not want to start the clock on the other guys yet unless they are overwhelmingly better. Floyd had more success once he settled down after getting knocked around when he was first brought up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Haeger's clock was already started last year.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) Do the Gophers play at the metrodome at the beginning of the season? Yea, we play at the Metrodome until Big 10 play (April), then move to Siebert Field.

Anyone here follow college baseball a fair amount? I went to a Gopher game today (free admission, first row above Gopher dugout ), and it seems like a few friends and I are going to try going to these games regularly.. it's pretty fun to see free baseball (especially since I grabbed a bunch of free ticket vouchers for the rest of the year). Anyway, I'm looking for some sites that are pretty good for information on college baseball. Anyone have any?

Not sure if this was posted or talked about, but I found this absolutely hilarious: http://www.blackshoediaries.com/story/2007/2/28/142948/172 -
Don't like throwing at Champ Bailey?

That's one way to replace Darrent Williams. Scary tandem there in Denver.. -
QUOTE(max power @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 06:26 AM) Sox record is 90-62. Offense stays solid, even improves slighty on last year. Bullpen greatly improves. Starting pitching remains around the same. Buehrle's era returns to around 4. Vasquez wins 16 games. Garland wins 17. Contreras gets injured for a month +. The team fails to keep 5 consistent starters on the field but the pen and offense bail the team out. They make the playoffs but are beat up and they lose in the ALCS to the yankees. Is there a strike causing the league to play 10 less games?

And the storm starts. Wind is looking pretty strong, and the snow is coming down thickly. I'm really glad I don't have to shovel

I read this question to be what it says, "home crowd advantage", as in: which sport does the crowd affect the most? For that reason, I went with basketball, since I think a crowd can completely change the way a team plays. If the question was meant as "home field advantage" though, I think its easily baseball, for the reasons whitesoxin' said.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) Yup, cheering for an individual over the White Sox, w000000000000000000t. I'll never understand it, and trust me, there are plenty more who don't, it doesn't make any sense. I agree with you, but if there were one player that could make me be happy to see my team lose, it'd be Frank. He made me love the sport in the first place. Still, I'd rather see the Sox win than see Frank hit #500 to lead the Blue Jays to a win. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 02:01 PM) This is close to being as bad as people that say "oh well, I'm not mad that he hit a walkoff homer, at least (insert player's name) is on my fantasy team". I think when most people say that, they aren't really being serious. I know when I say it, I mean it in a "trying to salvage anything good I can out of a loss" way.

It seems like everything is getting hit around here but the campus so far. Still, we're supposed to get a fair amount tomorrow (I think about 10" overall at least). woo Minnesota!

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) alright college basketball fans, which one of these teams deserves to be in the tourney more Team A 22-7 1-0 against top 25 RPI, 3-2 against top 50, 7-5 against top 100 13 road wins wins at Syracuse, Nova, and Creighton team B 21-9 2-6 vs. top 25 RPI, 3-8 vs. top 50, 6-9 vs. top 100 three road wins Team B. Much tougher schedule led to more losses, and (as a personal note) I'd rather see a team play the tough teams and lose than see a team avoid them all together. -
I deny it and point at Frank Thomas.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) do you seriously wish that I prove you wrong It was clearly written in jest (or at least, clearly to me )

We got about a foot here in Minneapolis. Sunday was great for snow football though, perfect conditions.

QUOTE(effectivelywild @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) Floyd walked a guy and gave up a double before twisting his ankle---dump the bum, he'll never be anything! A better example could have been used here, since a lot of people think this about Floyd already, regardless of his performance/injury I do agree though on jumping the gun, but what do you expect? Baseball's back, I can understand people's joy

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 08:44 PM) Wow, you know I totally forgot about that? I forget sometimes just how different this place is in the offseason. JIM THOME IS BETTER!

QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 27, 2007 -> 03:57 AM) Fields is a good athlete, and compared to what Pods offers defensively in LF, I would gladly like to see Fields get a chance to prove he can play out there. Why not give Fields more time to blossom (offensively and defensively in LF) at AAA though? How do we know his year last year wasn't a fluke? I mean, it was his first REALLY good offensive year in his minor league career (and afaik, he's never played LF regularly), and I'd rather give him the time he needs to prove he's ready for the majors as opposed to rushing him and potentially screwing him up mentally.
