Fact of the matter is that Ozzie shouldn't be playing GM for our team in the offseason and deciding between Mark Kotsay/Andruw Jones or Jim Thome. Part of that's KW's fault for letting him do it, but if Ozzie is going to continue to have that type of executive decision, I don't want him anywhere near this team.

I'll definitely be around tonight... f*** the Twins.

That movie is hardly a mind trip. Now qwerty, he's into some f***ed up mind trip movies. Although the scene where he dives into a toilet is also pretty f***ed up:

QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) I got out of the sports industry because of the inability to make a living off of it and well.......it prevented me from watching sports. I'm much happier working a regular 9-5 and having nights/weekends off to enjoy my favorite interest instead of turning it into work. But I have a few friends who are knee deep in the industry and love it, so to each their own. I actually didn't decide on sports for awhile for that exact reason. I started off thinking of doing some sort of academic major, as I wanted to leave sports as a hobby for my spare time instead of turning it into work. However, I really don't regret my decision at all, regardless of the ridiculous hours I've put in and will continue to put it. It really depends on the person, and if you don't think you want to be "married to your job," then I would definitely suggest looking at a different field.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 10:06 AM) And just be aware there are very very few guys that make it. And if you can get an MBA from Harvard, know that you'll be turning down a 120K a year salary (or so, give or take another 30K) with bonus possibilities and options for a job that will pay you like 35-50K working for an MLB organization (Maybe less) just hoping you can prove yourself. Quite frankly, it is a pretty moronic decision, but to each there own. And even than, that MBA from Harvard will probably pay you a hell of a lot more over your time than it would if you went, worked in baseball, and even made it to be a GM. I get what you're saying, but money isn't everything. If it were, I certainly wouldn't have majored in Sport Management with the intention of working for a sports team. Obviously a different beast than going to Harvard with sabermetrics in mind, but there were definitely more lucrative career paths I could have taken.

I watched Less Than Zero last night. I read the book earlier this year and figured I'd enjoy the movie, but I was very wrong. Robert Downey Jr was awesome as expected, but that was the only reason to watch. Read the book instead, way less preachy and much, much, much, much better. Really, the movie shouldn't have been called Less Than Zero and the characters should have had different names. It was completely different than the book, very disappointing (although I had heard that going into watching it, but still).

QUOTE (The Beast @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) What's your path, educational background, internships and what are you trying to do? I just graduated as a sports management major with a communications minor with the ultimate career goal of Vice President of Communications (obviously some 15-20 years down the line). Two of the three unpaid internships I did were in media relations departments, while the third was in promotions for a team known for their promotions. The full-time position I got for the upcoming season is also in media relations. It's a seasonal internship, but if you want to get a permanent position with a team, they generally require you have at least two to three years of media relations experience, so a seasonal internship is usually necessary. The pay sucks, but if you're looking to get rich quick, starting a career in sports isn't going to do that for you. Not that I have a world of experience as I've just graduated college (and this might be obvious), but I'd advise against being closed-minded in where you're going to work (e.g. wanting to work for the White Sox). There are a finite number of positions with any given team, and the chances of anyone getting them are slim to none, especially if you're just trying to get off the ground and have no experience in the field. Instead, I'm a firm believer that you should be willing to move anywhere to gain experience toward your ultimate goal, regardless of how you feel about the team/area you'd be. If that means working in Idaho or Alaska, so be it, as long as it's working toward your eventual career goal.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) I'm pretty sure damn near everyone starts in sales. There are plenty of other ways to get into the business, it's just that sales is the easiest way since there's so much turnover on the staffs. I'm trying to get into sports as well, but I'm not going the sales path. You certainly need to have connections and go through the b**** work for a few years, but it's not that uncommon. I did unpaid internships for three teams (essentially 2 years worth) before finally recently getting a full-time paid internship with a team for the upcoming season.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) Good move for the Twins, their pen has struggled. Still dodged major bullets that they didn't get Lee or Oswalt, I still think they need another starting arm, I know they've been OK lately but that was against the Os and KC. When you say "struggled", do you mean they have the second best bullpen ERA in baseball and 8th best FIP?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) Yes, exactly. Now take another puff of your inhaler and dive back into your digital fantasy world. You should get out of your mom's basement and start watching baseball games with your eyes sometime. Maybe then you'd understand how unlucky Kotsay has been this year, hater.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) Nerds So it's nerdy to gush over a long-awaited sequel to the best (RTS) video game of all time, but gushing over a game like Red Dead Redemption is just fine?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Fixed Impossible to say, considering D3 doesn't even have a release date yet. That being said, I never had any faith in Blizzard in ever releasing either game, so I'm pretty pumped about Starcraft 2.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) I've been watching old episodes of Las Vegas. I really like it. Definitely entertaining. Nothing groundbreaking, and a lot of the technology they use is almost certainly bulls***, but it's a fun show.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) Nic Cage hasnt made a quality movie since Raising Arizona Entertaining Nic Cage movies (that I've seen) since Raising Arizona: Kick-Ass, The Weather Man, Lord of War, National Treasure, Matchstick Men, Adaptation, The Family Man, GONE IN 60 SECONDS, FACE/OFF, CON AIR, The Rock, Leaving Las Vegas Brilliant movies that are deserving of Oscars? Probably not. Entertaining (some more than others) and not a complete waste of time? Most definitely. If you didn't enjoy Con Air, Face/Off or Gone In 60 Seconds (or Kick-Ass, for that matter), then I'm convinced you don't know what a fun movie is. That being said, I don't know why anyone would ever want to see The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Nic Cage can be an awesome actor in a certain genre of film, but that is most certainly not included.

AJ's defense - The stats don't lie - he's been one of the
Felix replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) Check out these stats for AJ: AJ leads MLB in fielding percentage at .998. AJ is FOURTH in caught stealing percentage at 34.5% So while he isn't hitting well, let's give him a congrats for being arguably the best defensive catcher in baseball this year plus he calls an excellent game. AJ is not better defensively than Yadier Molina. No one that's sober/sane could argue that, unless they're using ridiculous stats like fielding percent. I think AJ is probably better defensively than he gets credit for, but neither of the stats you provided prove anything.
