  1. QUOTE (TCQ @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) Before this year where he saw limited action he always had a very good range factor. He led the league in 2004 for cf. Why cant he overcome this mitochondrial stuff and do it again? Because it's a serious health issue.
  2. Trading Swish would be pretty stupid. He's still young and affordable, there's no reason to cut our losses quite yet.
  3. Both Minnesota and Northwestern are ranked. Time to stock up on dry foods, the apocalypse is near.
  4. Penn State did a white out years ago for a game against Ohio State, and have continued with it for other games. It looks awesome.
  5. If he's on the team, then he'll be in CF. Therefore, he shouldn't be on the team, regardless of how much of a pay cut he'll take. It's that simple.
  6. Tubby's Tipoff tonight. Heading out shortly, it's going to be awesome.
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) Griffey Jr was a great player and now sucks and I know he gave it his all while with the Sox, but I would really be surprised if he is back next year with us at least not if he is asking for $16M give or take $10M Fixed.
  8. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Anybody that's been lobbying for Furcal should now ZIP IT! That's about the 5th error of the playoffs now isn't it? He had 3 alone in the top of the 5th.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) We should load this thread up with MVC talk before Heads comes and ruins it with Iowa State talk and Felix with his Gophers. HEY HEY HEY Midnight madness is Friday, I can't wait to see what the student section shirts look like. I also simply can't wait for the season to begin. Despite how well the football team has done this year, college football has died to me over the years in comparison to college basketball. With Ralph Sampson, Devoe Joesph, Devron Bostick and Paul Carter joining an already solid group of young players, I have high hopes for this team. I don't know if this will be the year we make the tournament, but there's no doubt in my mind that we will in the next two or three years. I can't wait to see Damien Johnson and his development, and I can't wait for the student section road trip in the beginning of January which I seriously hope I can go on again. Last year's trip to Michigan was fantastic.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) And the Phillies are going to face the Rays in the World Series. Who had those 2 in the pool? It's a 3-0 lead. As a person that's rooting for the Phillies, I ask you not to think this game is over, as it isn't.
  11. Great video until the song when the players names were being listed. Oh well, can't be perfect, right?

  13. QUOTE (Shadows @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) I N I Minnesota is still garbage, true story Illinois should have won that game easily and simply beat themselves.. you have a right to be excited and happy about them after what happened last year but they still aren't that good I never claimed Minnesota was a good team, but damnit I'm proud of this team for showing up this year.
  14. ILL no? 6-1 and bowl eligible just one year after going 1-11. This is pretty amazing.

    i am drunk

I met up with my friend Evan on my way home from work today, and we started hanging out right when I got back. That plus no food all day equals some fun times at only 7. Heading out to the bars in a few hours, that should make things even more enjoyable.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) A very manly one. I've been fascinated by the guy ever since i read a great article on cuban baseball by, Michael (Moneyball) Lewis. http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/feature...currentPage=all I keep meaning to read it, I've been told by a number of people that it's a great article.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 07:04 AM) But Izturis is an interesting name to me, because he knows how to play NL style ball, he's not as old, and he wouldn't be as expensive to acquire. Who cares? We're in the American League and this fascination that people have with bunts is disgusting. Bunts are designed to give outs to the other team. The whole point of offense is to not get out. I don't get what's so hard to understand here. Yes, they can be helpful in a tie game in the bottom of the ninth with a runner on second and no outs, but to use them as much as some people here seem to want would be ridiculous and insane when the rest of the team is built on power.
  18. On a similar note to the point of this thread, I've been putting up with similar s*** in classes here. This Monday I started a job which involves my wearing business clothes Monday through Thursday (as I work either directly before or after my classes). This week was probably the first time all year that I haven't been wearing some form of Sox gear, which meant it was open game for all the idiot Twinkie fans in my classes to try calling me out for being a bandwagon fan (including two separate teachers). If I really wanted trouble, I'd bring up the fact that I don't see any of them wearing Twins gear, as well as the fact that I could name more players on the Twins than they could, despite their being "fans" of the team. Instead I just choose to ignore it for the most part, though I do make comments about it to some of the people I'm friends with in these classes. QUOTE (beautox @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 03:40 AM) CS:S Bindz FTW, for example: "gg no re now get out of our mIRC channel or idle n00b, while i go make some belgiumrofls and poor some l33tsauce on them" 'gg no re' goes back a lot further than CS:S. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 12:14 AM) ditto, i think it probably stems from online gaming so if you arent a huge nerd you probably wont get it I'm not a huge nerd
  19. Where's the "all of the above" option? That isn't to say all of them will suck in 2009, but I don't expect either Danks or Floyd to repeat their ERAs from this year and it'll be incredibly difficult for TCQ to match what he did this past season. I do think Danks and TCQ will both be very good next year, but just not as good as this year. As for Alexei, I don't think he'll regress so to say, but I do think his free swinging nature and lack of plate discipline will come back to bite him.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 03:30 AM) Dodgers trade Juan Pierre to the White Sox for Josh Fields, and, in a Thome-like contract move to get him off their team so the youngsters can play, subsidize about 60-65% of his $45 million contract (3 years remaining on the deal). Pierre, familiar with Ozzie from their days in FLA, becomes the White Sox CFer about 5 years too late. The White Sox also sign Nomar Garciaparra to replace Uribe as their supersub and Casey Blake as their new 3B. Brad Penny undergoes a thorough mental/psychological and physical (Dr. James Andrews) evaluation and is cleared to become Don Cooper's latest project with a one year, incentive-based deal with a Mutual Option for 2010 or buy out. Luis Castillo is reunited with Juan Pierre at the head of the line-up, once again, 5 years too late...with the Mets paying $4 million of his $6.25 million contract and Boone Logan/Adam Russell sent to improve the Mets porous' bullpen. Ozzie is still a happy camper to have the veterans around him that he trusts. Brian Anderson, not so happy. I would hate all of these moves, and they would make the team worse.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) The Brewers didn't win a World Series 3 years ago. That reason alone should make anything less than a title unacceptable. Yes, we won the division. Great. Will get to hang a al central division banner next year. But the goal is always to win your last game in October. Anything less is a failure. So the White Sox have had 3 successful seasons in the history of their franchise and over 100 failures. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Again, while the ultimate goal for any team is to win the World Series, just because they didn't doesn't make a season a failure. Believe it or not, but before the season teams have a number of goals, ranging from winning their division, scoring x runs, preventing x runs from being scored, etc. You're expecting way too much if you expect any team to win the World Series every year, it's just not happening.
  22. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) Remember people, it's not about division titles, it's about world series titles. I believe this team is a long way away from that. Teams have a lot of goals. Sure, one of them is a World Series title, but how many teams win that every year? Winning the division is huge, especially in a year when it was supposedly over before the season even started. Yes, the team is old and getting older. That sucks, sure, and it needs to be fixed. However, don't try to discredit division titles as they mean a lot for a fan base. You shouldn't take making the playoffs for granted. Hell, do you think Brewers fans are up in arms about not winning the World Series? I'd be willing to bet that they're upset, but at the same time they're ecstatic they made the playoffs for the first time in ages (this is based off of my conversations about this years playoffs with a few close friends that are Brewers fans)
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) I'd have no problem keeping him as a DH. I'm not sure what our options really are there. I don't see many takers for him in the trade market, and I don't know if he reached the AB goal to get his option picked up for 09. He did.
