  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 01:39 AM) I am aware, but last winter was horrific and this year isn't starting any better (in fact, it's starting worse). Obviously these could be freak events not indicitive of nation and worldwide trends, and obviously I don't just flat out believe global warming is BS (I'm a skeptic of if it's nearly as bad as people say, but only an idiot would deny the evidence that something is going on), but I find events such as recent ones strange considering what I always hear about warming patterns. I'm no scientist, but global warming's effects are linked to glacial melt which slow the ocean conveyor which moves warm tropical water to the north. This causes cooling the north, warming in the south. This actually causes extreme weather both in the summer and winter. One snow storm does not negate decades of warming. I'm sure there's a thread on this in the Buster.
  2. Rosenthal confirms Furcal to the dodgers. Here's how it played out with the Braves: Foxsports
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) Why? it changes nothing, the guy still cannot recover from injuries and is injury prone. He still doesnt have the energy to play everyday. Yeah because he hasn't been given the right treatment. So, if the misdiagnosis is accurate, then it could change everything. Nevertheless, I think this report is preliminary and any team should remain skeptical.
  4. QUOTE (qwerty @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) Let's hope he is not bluffing for the sake of it... If he were to sign and then it was discovered that he lied to get a better deal, the contract would almost definitely be void. Any team would take a long look at all medical records and research into the disease to ensure this isn't a bluff. Plus, if he was bluffing, that would make him a sack of crap.
  5. As I posted in the Furcal thread, Furcal may now have a deal with the Dodgers.
  6. Not so surprisingly, Furcal is now reported to go to the Dodgers Yahoo Sports
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) Young has one of the worst contracts in the game today going forward after 2009...why would the White Sox possibly take on that kind of commitment when they already have Ramirez, unless the Rangers ate at least 60% of it? He also has a NTC through 2009. I've read that the Rangers want to move him, but his contract is awful. Plus he's 32 coming off a down year.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) True The person below me will right a wrong today False. But the day is not over yet. The person below me answered "Yes" to the jizz in your pants question.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 12:08 AM) On the same subject sort of, any advice for the LSAT? I will be taking it in 6-9 months. Take a class for it and do the work. The LSAT is hard. I was scoring on practices over 160, but ended up in the 150's. I wasn't too happy, but I got into a school. My experience tells me that if your GPA is solid, all you need is a 150+ to get into a decent school. But I'm sure others will freak you out and say you need a 170.
  10. Furcal to the Braves. Rosenthal It'll be interesting to see what they do with Escobar. Cabrera must be really happy to see Furcal go to a team that didn't need a shortstop.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) He's not going to get near that number. I want alot of things I wont get too. Maybe not, but after the Ibanez deal he'll get $10M-12M.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) i was referring to the site from which that information was taken. damn, i just assumed nobody read my posts.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) I'm going to bet it's not Furcal. One site said that the A's are offering a 4 year deal. I would go near him for that length of a deal and his injury history. Yeah, also this site, one page back.
  14. I guess this is as good a place as any to post this: ESPN Seems like a lot of money for a guy with a bad back.
  15. Here is a recent recap of the Floyd era in Phily: Maybe the answer is somewhere in the middle, but I don't think he had any attitude problems until his confidence was shot.
  16. That bacon krispy treat guy lives in the same town I'm in now. I don't know whether to be proud or not, but I may have to get in on the Ridiculous Food Society.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) Sounds like a guy we traded for a couple years ago (I know. That was a once in a lifetime happening. Will see another Michael Jordan in Chicago before we see another Gavin Floyd situation). That's not aimed at you by the way. Floyd didn't have that reputation at all. In fact, as I understand it, he listened to everyone and they were all giving different advice which lead to all sorts of problems.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) Every pitcher is different. You've got some guys that are just stubborn. Kinda like Kerry Wood all those years. Maybe easily wasn't the right word. But a good pitching coach+a pitcher's willingness to change and mechanics more times than not are fixable. Bailey has a reputation for not listening (at least, according to what I've read on the Reds message boards). It's the main reason they want to get him out.

    SNL

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) Dude, he has a laundry list of things he's done... hence the entire sketch. I have no problem with them bringing up his drug abuse, etc. I don't really understand why they'd have him wondering the set. And he hasn't done anything to piss anyone off since becoming governor, so I found it strange.
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) even when it happened in Iraq? Yes.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) Francisco Liriano says "I disagree." If they would have brought him up 6-8 weeks earlier, they take the division pretty easily. If Neshek isn't out for the entire season and they actually spend the money to replace him, they take the division. Same thing with acquiring either Hawkins or Bradford at the break instead of Eddie Guardado. Heck, if they hadn't signed Hernandez, Lamb and Monroe, they'd have won...or if Cuddyer hadn't been injured, etc. Yes, we lost Crede, Contreras, Linebrink and Quentin, but to say we'd have walked away with the division easily simply isn't true, because no team is 100% healthy for an entire season, not even the 2005 White Sox (Pods, Big Hurt, Hermanson). This argument makes no sense. On one hand, if the Twins don't suffer injuries then they win easily. But we can't say the same about the Sox because no team is ever healthy?
  22. I'd say it's a high risk low reward signing in that he assaulted the President of the United States and will likely not see the light of day for a long time. And I don't know how much throwing he'll get to do in the Iraqi Penal league.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) False. The person below me has made a gingerbread house this year. False, at the moment anyway. The person below me knows what a ponzi scheme is without having to look it up.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 01:11 AM) If it's any consolation they skewered the heck out of NY Governor Patterson, as well Which is strange because he seems to be doing a good job. I haven't heard any complaints about him. Of course, SNL decided to make fun of him for being blind which is pretty low.
  25. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) Stern did a good rant about how her whole act smacks of desparation and makes her a little less hot, but I'm in Arties camp that in theory I agree, but she's still smoking I don't care about her desperation. I'm shallow enough to look past her emotional needs.
