  1. I'll give a recap. Thinks BMac will be a good pitcher, but used the word "serviceable." He's not worried about any critics because he trusts his scouts. Does not think that putting BMac into the pen hurt him, and says there was no problem with him talking about his dislike of the pen on the radio. He was going to battle Floyd anyway because Floyd has a group of pitches that will work better in The Cell. KW believes that people will agree with him in the end. Wants to win now and in the future, but teams are reluctant to trade talent now, so he had to strike now or have a 100 loss season in a couple years. KW feels that Danks and Gio are the best lefty prospects in the game because of all the movement on their fastballs, which will play better in their park. North points out that BMac did not have that, and KW generally agrees but thinks he can change his arm slot to get more movement. The deal was just as much about Masset, who can move into the pen now. Also sees him as a possible starter, but KW didn't sound like he expected that to happen. ::commercial::

    Drinking poll

QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) They sell this outside of Pennsylvania? I have never seen it in Texas. Its sold in most places on the east coast, but that's it. It'll be Sam Adams Brewmaster's collection (bunch of different beers) and champagne.
  3. Ed Farmer was just on the Score and said that the Sox were not happy about the home runs BMac was giving up, and they weren't as sold on him as they were before. That's about all I heard of the call though.
  4. It's the Ross Gload factor.
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 17, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) Riccardi would probably ask for B-Mac I'd imagine, so that'd be a no no. But if you could get him for some of SP spects like Lance Broadway (which I doubt would happen) I'd be for it. I'd imagine they'd take Garland if they couldn't get BMac. Below market cost for 2 years would be worth it for them, but I doubt KW will traded anyone except Vazquez.

    Final Exam Help

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) Marquette. Theo 1. Required core course. I honestly don't know how much I learned this semester. My professor is a real bright guy, but he's Russian and carries a real deep accent, and sometimes his writing on the board is hard to decipher. That being said, he's quite funny, he pokes fun at his heritage all the time, always (jokingly) comparing himself to the 'bad guys' in the James Bond films. That said, I got a 100% on the mid-term exam despite the fact that I was really worried about it. I'll gladly take repeated results on this next one. Wait, is it the guy with the long beard? I had a Russian orthodox professor for Theo 1 at Marquette and he was one of the best profs I've ever had. He didn't have a bad accent though...
  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 08:34 AM) Hmm, I dont know about a credit "freeze". Equifax, Experian and TransUnion offer a Fraud alert for 90 days for anyone, and they monitor your credit and let you know if anyone is attempting to obtain credit in your name(and tell you which company so you can call them and stop the application), but the credit bureaus cannot actually stop anyone from getting credit because they are just a monitoring service. If you have proven CC fraud, they will monitor your credit for 7 years, but I deal with them everyday at Chase and I havent heard of any freeze. Who knows though, as soon as I hear one thing, they change it on me. This was accurate, as far as I know, when I thought I got scammed over the summer by a door to door energy company employee in New York. Turned out to be legit, but I looked into all that information. The process is pretty easy. You just have to call one of the credit companies and they inform the others.
  8. Coop had a strong relationship with Garcia, plans to call him today. He found out about the trade while he was out somewhere in NY. Doesn't sound like he had much input on the trade. Gio should compete in the pen. Waiting to see more video on Floyd. Coop likes the "newness" of the deal. Saw Floyd on TV and thought he would be a great guy to have, but he was pitching "robotic." Needed rhythm. On the Garland front, Coop doesn't know KW's intentions but he trusts the moves he makes. Feels more like a fan right now. He's waiting for KW to fill him in on Floyd on Gio. Coop is excited to plot the course for the new guys. Points out that this might be a precursor to more, but doesn't know what KW is up to. Floyd: for him not to have success so far means that something has to be wrong. Not throwing consistent strikes, and might not be mature enough to throw 2 pitches consistently for strikes. Gio: has a good arm, and his size is not an issue. Hopes that Gio can compete for a pen spot now. These guys just need more time to mature, but both guys have major league arms that need command. McCarthy might be fighting for the 5th spot, because Coop doesn't like handing anything to anyone, but BMac should have the advantage for right now. McCarthy would have had a chance at a starting spot last year had it not been for the rotation, but nothing is being handed to him.
  9. Figured people might want to know. I can give a recap.
  10. QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) actually its the whole thinking process that is changing. We are acting like we don't have money again. I think that will backfire with fans. It won't backfire if the team keeps winning, and right now they have still have 5 very good starters and a project in Floyd. Most people that showed up to the Cell these last couple years don't care about deals like this, or organizational philosophy. They come out to see a winning team. Also, KW said that this was not motivated by money issues, which leads me to believe they are willing to put that money they saved back into the team.
  11. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) According to Mike North this morning, the Jays offered Wells straight up for Garcia but KW wanted Wells to sign a 4 yr extension and Wells refused....TIFWIW being that it is Mike North... The Jays wanted a replacement outfielder so someone else would have been almost definitely involved as well. If Wells wouldn't sign an extension, then I wouldn't make that move either.
  12. This might be posted in here at this point, but this is from CBS and I think it provides some insight on what happened. Not that this is any real news to anyone, but KW must have felt that if he didn't pull the trigger he wouldn't get any young pitchers.
  13. This was a full quote from CBS Sportsline in case it clarifies things for you.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) Lilly getting $11M per and Schmidt getting $16M is still f***ing crazy and more than either should receive. Or, maybe they landed in places KW wasn't expecting? I don't know, I don't get it. It sounds like KW got desperate and just made a deal.
  15. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) Someone explain how this makes any sense, because i'm not seeing it: They didn't sign for as much money as KW expected. Basically, the market wasn't quite as crazy as he was hoping...I guess.
  16. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) Seriously, we save $10 million dollars, JR said b4 the deal we have payroll flexibility, so offer Bonds a one year deal worth $15 million dollars with an option for 2008 based on at-bats. He is 22 homers away from history, we would get so much media exposure because of it and our attendence would keep up. It would be a good deal. We have enough veteran guys to keep Bonds in check like Thome, Kong, Dye and AJ. This team does not want the Bonds circus in town every night. That's not happening.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) I'm not gonna pass judgement on this trade yet because it's too early. On Floyd, his value is down yes, but KW and Coop have obviously seen something in him. He was a borderline top 10 prospect a couple of seasons back. He has good stuff, and the Sox must think they can fix ALA Matt Thornton. If that happens, it's a real good trade for the Sox, because they could end up with 2 starters who could fixtures in the Sox's rotation for the next decade. And that's IF they keep both of them. My guess is both are traded for Rocco Baldelli, who's available. Even if that's the case, Floyd should still have been available on the cheap, and KW should have been able to get something else as well. I just can't imagine that KW asked for Lackey then settled for this deal.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) I think the market wasnt there or something, cause this deal is bulls*** IMO. There better be someone else involved. Nobody was willing to trade top pitching prospects. They're too valuable.
  19. Probably means the Sox might wait even longer now to make a deal.
  20. FoxSports 3yrs/ $47 Million.
  21. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) Yeah, I just found links also. http://lionvs40midgets.uk-directory.com/ Pretty good. I knew I'd heard of this before. According to that link, it was about a year and a half ago.
  22. They've decided to show a rodeo instead of BBT
  23. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) arod please please please how long is he under his huge contract? til 2010? thatd be Amazing. hes gonna be really good til then to. A-Rod's contract He can void the contract after 2007 if he doesn't get an $8mil raise. He probably wouldn't bother, but who knows?
  24. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) i thought one of the Cubs biggest weakness was thier rotation?!? Why would they give that kind of money out to ANOTHER power hitter? LOL We tried the power-power-power thing in 2006 and it didn't get us in the playoffs. But power with a lack of starting pitchers doesn't garuntee winning for crap. Do you guys think KW will make a big splash similar to this? Not a power type guy, but a big name like Carl Crawford. I'm very interested to see what Dye commands in free agency, and whether that pushes KW toward trading for an outfielder now.
  25. Score just reported 6yrs/90 with 2 option years for $135 total. I tried to grab that quick, but the option years make no sense at that price.
