  1. Yes, the offense has been struggling, but that happens to every team at some point. The only reason the Sox are 20 games over, though, is because of the offense while the pitching has done little more than blow leads. Ocassionaly the pitching has to pick the offense for an extended period, and they've shown that they can't do it outside of Contreras. Luckily Garland has been good too.
  2. QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) plus the Solo Shot Sox continue to give very weak run support, more HRs with no one on, would be great to give the guy a nice 4 run lead and see what he can do...... ...they've given him tons of run support this year and he enjoys giving it up. Furthermore, when did the Twins become an offensive juggernaut? 4 runs can beat the Twins if there's a good pitcher out there.
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) The Frank Thomas signing was the ultimate Billy Beane signing. A lifetime OPS of .991 for, what, $1M? Give me a break. He hadn't been healthy for years and you're telling me Bean thought he was getting 1994 Frank Thomas? Thomas has been hitting home runs but can barely run, at this point Soriano wouldn't be a terrible option for them. And if Bean sees the value of a 200 inning pitcher, then Garcia and Vasquez would meet that standard.
  4. QUOTE(soxunited @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) guys i've seen a few of you mention that Zito may be back on the block again. Is there a source for this, or just speculation? Random speculation.
  5. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) thats the anti-billy beane move So was signing Loaiza and an injured Frank Thomas. This move replaces Zito for a couple years (though not particularly well) and gives them an offensive piece for this year since Thomas is not always healthy.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) do you think NL only or only out of the AL central? I'll go out on a limb and say an AL team. My reasoning is that it might be for a pitcher, and no AL team wants NL pitching. Soriano and Garcia/Vazquez for Zito? Iffy move for next year, but as long as we are speculating...
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) Or Brandon jumps on a flight to DC . . . ESPN News just reported the deal, and they mentioned that MacDougal could take BMacs spot if/when he goes to Washington.
  8. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) The more I think about it, I just can't see Anderson being moved with Pods goin gto center. The SOx know Pods defense is suspect and they know he can't play center. There's is no way that is part of the big plan. Pods won't go to center. Oz already said that Pods wouldn't move there, and he knows that Pods is bad in left. He isn't going back to centerfield.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) yeah he's good when healthy, but that's been a major issue, but Coop has turned people around before. Thorton is a good example Somebody must have pointed him out as the guy they wanted to give up Lumsden.
  10. Reported now by the Score....Offman doesn't think the Sox are as close to getting Soriano as previously thought, but nobody knows. Only Lumsden was mentioned on the Score's report.
  11. Lucky for me I've been in Disney World for the past few days, so the scores have been nothing more than an annoyance if I got to see them at all. But now I'm going to the game tonight, so I could use a win.
  12. I gave these guys the benefit of the doubt ealier in the game but this is sad. Even if it is Rivera.
  13. NO DOUPLE PLAYS, PAULIE. And here comes Ozuna for no real reason.
  14. Ok, NOW would be a good time for the 3-4-5 to come through.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) Or maybe one of them could have come up with atleast a single in one of these clutch spots. I really don't think that's too much to ask. They've been doing it all year. It's just the last week or so that they haven't come through. Logically that would happen eventually. The baserunning has been more annoying.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) Wow, the middle of the order is beyond useless right now. They couldn't hit forever.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) When do the inter league games start in the 2nd half of the year??? The end of October.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) I dont know but when i listen Singleton and Farmer dont seem to get along with each other that well. And really Singleton is pretty horrible... I dont think he has improved at all since spring training. And w/out Rooney I cant really stand Farmer anymore as well.... our radio went from great to complete garbage in just 1 season. I think it's a stretch to say they don't get along but certainly they have differing senses of humor and, really, personalities in general. Singleton is scared to death to say anything that might be controversial, and Farmer doesn't like it when Chris tries to take jabs at him. Meanwhile, Farmer says whatever he thinks and always jokes with Singleton. The broadcasts aren't getting better. Singleton doesn't know how to get a thought out without falling all over himself, then Farmer has to interupt him to get the call in. I realize that it's only one season, but why couldn't they go out and find a guy who is a professional broadcaster? It's ridiculous. I can't imagine listening to these guys during the playoffs. What would Farmer's World Series call have been I wonder?
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) After our performance against the AL East this year, people are going to start saying we're overrated. And they might be right. The only AL East team we've been any good against is the Orioles. Lord knows we've been saying that about the Tigers.
  20. QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Today's game makes three consecutive starts where Mark Buehrle has been rocked. Has baseball figured out something about Mark Buehrle? Mark needs to adjust back. I don't believe that's the problem. There's nothing really to figure out about MB because he doesn't do anything all that impressive. He relies on hitting his spots and pitching fast. The problem is that he can't hit his spots, and as I said in this thread, I think he's got a tired arm.
  21. Buerhle really seems tired. He's pitching up way too much, and that's not something we've seen from him this many times in a season. I didn't buy into the idea that the playoffs would have an affect this season, but I'm starting to think it's causing a problem.
  22. Can Burke start in left field? I don't know much about the guy, but Pods is the only position player I see that could be out of favor with the Sox.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) I didn't say don't put him on the block. I just think he's worth more than a 39 year old relief pitcher. I misread, I guess, but you raise a good point. This deal might hinge on a prospect...possibly one we've traded before?
