Bases loaded, nobody out. I saw this act last night, it would be nice to have a better result.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) I doubt the Sox are there for trade purposes. They are likely scouting the Yanks, and if they pick up any info on guys they made trade for, that is bonus. You're not going to trade with New York, because you are giving up MLB talent, and you're not going to trade with Cleveland, due to them being a division rival and them being so close to knocking us out of the playoffs last year, unless the price is ridiculously cheap. This sounds like the most realistic reason I have heard. Also, if anything, I'd assume the Braves scout was there checking out people from New York for potential trades, but I would have no knowledge of who he would be scouting. But advanced scouts and talent scouts are different aren't they? I guess this really happens every year about this time. There's always a story about scouts and it goes nowhere. Maybe the reporters don't know that scouts are there to do different things.

All he'll get is a one year deal with incentives no matter who wants him. I don't think his injuries are related to mechanics, but his body seems to be breaking down. I wouldn't give him more than a million with incentives going up to maby $3 million. I don't know if he's really worth any effort.

QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Whenever something exciting is happening, you can't even tell on the radio because neither Farmer nor Singleton show any enthusiasm as something is happening. It drives me nuts. Actually Farmer has been going nuts about everything lately. Singleton doesn't show any emotion, but Farmer has been very excitable lately.

It doesn't make sense for the Sox to trade with a team that will compete for the the playoffs either. It's more likely to be the team that's out of the playoff mix, even if the team is in the same division.

He's my age, but he's pitched against Ortiz and Ramirez... Happy birthday!

QUOTE(soxman352000 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) LOL, WOW it just goes to show you how s***ty the Cubs are when it comes to money That's nothing, the Cubs have 6x the payroll of the Marlins and the Marlins are 6.5 games better than the Cubs. That's terrible.

Politte scares the hell outta me. Thome scares the hell outta every other team. So it evens out.

Anybody ever hear of Sterling? It's worse than every beer listed here. I guarantee it.

Sweet fancy Moses...

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 01:57 AM) Andruw Jones just turned 29 meaning he's a year younger than Konerko and a year older than Crede, I really wouldn't call his age a huge negative in this one. As for the "not trying" bulls***, the guy has had random times throughout his career (mainly when he was around 20) when he would maybe not go all out for a ball hit in front of him, there are a ton of players in the league who do this, just about all of them do it, most of them do it far more often than Andruw. But since Jones has spent his entire career with Bobby Cox riding his ass and calling him out everytime he does something stupid he's been labeled as "lazy" and such. It's a joke. If Jones were to dog it at all, Ozzie wouldn't like it and that's my point, and those players you are mentioning aren't on the Sox. Nevertheless, he doesn't help the main problem this team has, which is pitching. If this move gets made, that's just great, but there better be something else happening.
-
Jones is in his late twenties, almost thirty I think. He's notorious for not trying his hardest (something that won't sit well with Guillen), and this move doesn't satisfy the biggest problem the team has. Those are some negatives, and while there is great upside to this trade, I don't really see the point to it unless there's a pitcher on the way in some other deal. The Sox don't need Jones, they need pitching.

The only thing about the Twins that I find suspicious is that they've been winning a lot of games against the NL. They weren't too scary a month ago, but now they look like world beaters. Despite all their winning they haven't gained much ground and will now have to face the AL again. I realize they have Santana and Liriano, but their offense isn't too frightening which means there's little room for error. Right now things are a bit skewed by inter-league play. That being said, it would really be nice if the pitching would come around. Giving up 15 runs to the worst offense in baseball is real bad.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 3, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) There are some serious barriers in the way when talking about a possible acquisition involving Andruw Jones, he's makes $13M this year which would be pro-rated of course and then $13.5M next year, free agent after that. #1 problem I see here is of course his agent, non other than Scott Boras. I guess the hope would be that Sweeney, or someone, can come up and make a difference so Jones could be let go. I really can't imagine the Sox making this deal.
-
Well I think Stone's point was that the Braves need to dump salary, so talent wise it would only take Anderson and a pitching prospect, but Jones is due $13.5 Million according to ESPN this year. That means KW would have to pick up a large tab. He did not say these things specifically, but he did mention that the Braves need money to get bullpen help so I assume Jones would be a god place to free up the cash.

If BMAC is going to enter the rotation in place of JV then JV has to be traded because you can't have JV come in during pressure situations since that's when he tends to fold. BMAC would have to then get used to being a starter again after he just got comfortable, it would appear, as a set-up man. The best thing that can happen is for JV to start pitching better. Unfortunately he hasn't shown that anything has changed.
-
Does this mean that even God gave up on the Cubs ever winning again? Appearantly the Cubs still have hope.
-
They used all their luck against the Sox it would appear.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) Quick question, where are all the Tiger fans coming from? I've seen this question asked 3 times now and nobody responds. I would love to find out though.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) It wasn't a safety issue. The kid had a heart condition. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060630/ap_on_...zkxBHNlYwN0bQ-- That's usualy the case. Unknown brain and heart conditions tend to be the reason for most deaths on rollercoaster. It's really sad that there's no way of telling that anything is wrong before something terrible happens.

I can't blame Widger when Contreras has been inconsistent for a while now. I can blame Ozzie for not taking him out of the game when there's a man in scoring position and less than 2 out, and when he proved that he had nothing working. The pitcher can't be batting in that situation. If it wasn't for the rain delay, Count never would have been pulled and this game becomes a really bad loss. And Politte sucks.
