  1. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Well I knew that I'd get blowback for not crucifying Mariotti--and would you guys remember I did NOT say that he is never wrong--but it certainly is a mystery to me. That mystery is that, like I said, I read the guy every column (mostly) out of habit and I'm at a loss where everybody's claiming he's been so unfair to the Sox the past couple of years. Hell, there's been more than a few that I've read where he was right-on about us and especially in talking about how we're the "real" baseball team in Chicago. He called KW a genius GM for his offseason deals. Yada, yada. I guess I really don't know what you guys want out of a columnist. Where has he ever been so unfair to the Sox? Read Eric Zorn's blog about Mariotti that I believe Steff put there for you. He takes no responsibility for anything he says. He writes merely based on emotion rather than thought and reason. He steals ideas from other people. He makes his points by yelling louder than anyone else (by grabbing at any attention he can possibly get), and he provides nothing new or relevant to world of sports. I've said all of these things before, and I can't believe anyone reads his garbage. If you enjoy it, then have fun with that, but obviously people around here aren't going to agree. Quite frankly, if Ozzie said this stuff about anyone else, I think he would have to face disciplinary action. Fans generally don't like Mariotti and they don't care what's said about him.
  2. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) So it was intentional? Here I was thinking Ponson sucked ass (hence the reason he was moved to the pen) and wouldnt hit anybody with the bases loaded.. if he did hit em intentionally he sucks even worse ass than I thought.. I'm merely giving my opinion. I think when a team is down by 15, it really doesn't matter if the bases are loaded. In fact, I think it provides an alibi (sp?). Yes, Ponson does suck, and no I don't think La Russa had anything to do with it, but I don't think that means that it wasn't intentional.
  3. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) YUP. Duncan was apparently "upset" about Ozzie saying he "called" Duncan about the incident, as was reported by Tribune writer Dave Van Dyke. The Score replayed the interview as it was recorded also, and found that Ozz actually didnt say "called". Van Dyke mis-reported. Score made sure to let everyone know that the Trib again misreported something involving the WHITE SOX To be fair, Ozzie ever easy to understand, and Duncan was going to be pissed no matter what. The difference between phone call and face-to-face talk is inconsequential in this story, IMO, and Van Dyke wasn't doing anything intentionally. Meanwhile, isn't talking to someone in person better than a phone call? To me, Duncan is either a liar or a complete idiot if he thinks Ponson didn't hit those guys intentionally. But I guess we have enough discussion on that around here.
  4. Here's what happened. Ozzie told reporters that after he found out they hit Duncan he called Duncan (pitching coach) and apologized. Duncan then called the Score (Mulligan) and called Ozzie a liar fr not calling him, but talking to him on the field. The Score had the cut of Ozzie talking, and a caller pointed out that Ozzie was really saying "told" not "called" and last I heard, Murph agreed with the caller and it was fairly obvious to me that Ozzie said "told." Duncan was PISSED off about everything that happened and also said that Ponson never threw at anyone intentionally, but Ozzie was a liar and told his pitchers to hit guys.
  5. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) I see a trade for Crazy Carl in the near future, we need his bat in the lineup. We also need his leadership because without it, this team has no shot. One that topic, we also need Wee Willie.
  6. 8+ runs in 6 straight games is a franchise record according to Ranger.
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) You suck. My system just isn't working.
  8. How do I manage to take the only guy in the lineup who doesn't get a hit for my Pick to Click. I've got DJ luck going.
  9. For some reason I'm thinking it was Carlos Lee in 2000 and that was the last time Jay entered the clubhouse. I know there was a nasty article about someone. This story isn't new, I'm sure someone here knows for certain who it was.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 07:57 AM) Sidney said Tony did not order a beaning, nor were they intentional. Well if he said it was intentional he would probably be fined or suspended. So I doubt he'd say he did it.
  11. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) Nice! So revenues were at an all time high - AFTER the lockout. Interesting. I think it was Brian Hanley that said the NHL set an attendance record.
  12. It's one of those nights where it would be really great if these runs would carry over...
  13. QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) So Pujols is off the DL? If so i wouldn't be surprised to see him DH. He starts taking batting practice tonight, and the beat writer for the Cards, when he was on the Score today, said he would have to take a couple BP's to see how he is. It doesn't sound like he'll play here, unless it's the last game.
  14. We don't know if Fields can play left yet, but it's assumed he can play right? Where is Broadway? Busted prospect? With KW at the healm and being in a win now mode, it's impossible to know how anything will turn out.
  15. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) this blurb really surprised me: that's an interesting stat. i would not have guessed that. And that's with David Ortiz being on some of those teams.
  16. I want to see Pods out there everyday as well because Ozuna off the bench makes the team stronger. However, he might want to work on his defense.
  17. Ozuna is also a better bunter and more aggressive base runner. While I think their defense is a wash, Guillen has recently said that Ozuna is not a everyday player. Pablo provides more to the team as a utility man and I agree. Put these things together and a trade makes sense if the right man can be had. It's also easier to find a left fielder than a center fielder. However, the price will be enormous for Crawford.
  18. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) What that tells me is that when they face a good staff they get handcuffed and they fatten up on the bottom feeders like the Flubbs. And that's exactly what happens.
  19. The Tigers, BTW, have struck out 508 times this season. That's most in the AL by a lot. The Indians are second with 462. I doubt these numbers are updated to reflect today's games, but it doesn't really matter. That's one of those stats that does not bode well for the Tigers.
  20. The fact that he has Rios on there is proof beyond just the Sox. There's nothing about that guy that tells me he's not a hell of a player.
  21. According to him, nobody can ever improve.
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) No sense in complaining about their schedule. They are playing the exact same teams we are in Interleague play. Its just that they are clicking every bit as well as we are. I'm not complaining, they play the teams on their schedule and that's it. But come August they will have a tougher time of it.
  23. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) They're on pace to go 62-100. That's about as bad a $95 million team can be.
  24. If the Tigers are gonna win, they might as well beat the hell outta the Cubs.
