The Sox could really use a few wins against the Cubs after the loses to the DRays. After the Cubs it will be Oakland, Toronto, and Cleveland. None will be easy series. I really don't care about this series beyond that.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ May 19, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) I am not about to count out the Tigers yet. As mentioned, I think it will depend on how their starting pitching holds up, more than anything. I think I am more surprised at how Cleveland has been faring. I agree with you about the Tigers, but I think by the All-Star break we will know if they are for real. Their schedule gets tough as the Sox does. Cleveland is not surprising me at all. Teams built around offense have a tendency to lose for long periods. They'll get hot later in the year, I'll reckon.

QUOTE(SnB @ May 18, 2006 -> 09:04 AM) I still don't understand how one of those GMs didn't go all out this offseason. It would be the easiest money ever spent for a division title Besides the Giants, all those teams have very good farm systems. No reason to clog up the major league roster.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 18, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) I wonder why the White Sox - DRays game is a night game ... it's a getaway day for the Sox and it'll be a really short turnaround time for the 3:05 pm start tomorrow. Oh well, they'll just have to suck it up. This question was asked before, and someone answered ESPN...anyone feel a Sunday lineup is going out there tonight?

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ May 17, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) that sounds more reasonable only question is what happened to the wings I think they disintegrated, basically. Crashes like that tend to make short work of such things.

It's not that Singleton is any better, but Farmer is stopping him in the middle of sentences now to tell everyone what's happening...FINALLY! The broadcast isn't all that much better, but it's less annoying, IMO.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 17, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) Actually, it was a heck of a lot wider than the plane. From what I know, the plane came in with its wings almost vertical, so the width of the hole would only be a bit larger than the fuselage and empanage (spelling butchered on both I'm sure), which it was. I don't know if that's true. The History Channel or National Geographic have a special on the Pentagon attack and what they show is a building that is constructed to limit damage from an attack like this. The wings were torn off when they hit the building, making the fuselage a missile, basically. The building then had many strong supporting poles to slow the progress of a missile or plane and limit the damage. That's what I recall of it, so I hope I'm kind of right. None of this makes you wrong, but it does help explain the amount of damage and the size of the impact.

I think it's funny that the guy at the courthouse agrees with the cab driver.

Comcast SportsNet to carry Friday's Sox-Cubs game as a "White
G&T replied to Jnuich's topic in Pale Hose Talk
These games are also being broadcast on WGN, and I think the opposite annoucers are doing the games. Sox on Sunday, and Cubs on Friday. -
It was explained to me that he won't be fully stretched out to go 100 pitches or whatever, plus he will be going right back to the pen and can be used at any time. There was no reason to risk him overthrowing, basically.

QUOTE(Beltin @ May 17, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) Like announcing all of his successful simulated starts and 20 throw long toss sessions? Heh, yeah that's kinda what I was thinking actually.

I don't know what the the other options are with BA. Isn't Sweeney hurt? And Mackowiak isn't an everyday player, plus it limits your depth to play him all the time. I don't mind a few more off days for BA but there's really nothing more the Sox can do right now, IMO.
-
I find it funny that he's now on a throwing program, yet the Sox rarely mention him at all. With the way the bullpen is going I would expect the organization to make a point of it to the fans. I doubt they are optimistic about the possibility of him returning. I guess everyone just has to wait and see.

It looks like their schedule gets hard at the same time ours does, meaning from this week or next, until the end of June. By the All-Star break we'll have a very good idea of what kind of team they are.

My brothers and I played lots of rollerhockey was I was younger. I never went out just to skate that I remember.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 16, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Well I would still expect him to throw 60 or 70 at the most. Nothing would have changed significantly over the course of a few days. It would also be foolish to overuse him when he's going to be back in the bullpen immediately after this start. Fair enough, I just hope he can get through 6 innings.

That quote is from May 10, and it was about pitching with Haeger. Has no real affect on this start.

I picked AL central team, but sweeping the Cubs is always sweet while sweeping the Royals can be fairly boring...though lately it's becoming difficult to come by. Sweeping the Tigers or Indians is very, very sweet thought.

QUOTE(Brian @ May 16, 2006 -> 08:38 AM) Optimus Prime CGI Test footage Pretty sweet looking. That's really amazing looking. I love Transformers so I hope the movie is as cool as the original Transformers - The Movie...where Weird Al sang "Dare to be Stupid."

QUOTE(Beltin @ May 15, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) I miss Nardi! ....my eyes burned out.

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ May 15, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) I am re-reading it now before the book comes out. Its funny to read your posts, because the first time I read it, I could not put it down either. To be honest, there is so much history built into the book that I don't know how they can replicate it in the movie. I'm looking forward to it though. The book is easily among the best I've read I was the same way when I read it, but that was before I saw all the History Channel stuff that exposed the book for the nonsense that it is. Nevertheless, it's a good read. And Angels and Demons was very good too.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 15, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) It seriously is a wonder what Hawk did before e-mail. "Here's a telegram from..." Sat in silence if I recall.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 15, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) So, they get him and move DAmon to left, or something along those lines? I guess I could see that. As for us getting Hunter, I was thinking more for this year, and not long term. I still like BA, just want to see that average get up there and to see him continue more rallies. Maybe by the end of this year, my concerns will be gone. I hope so. If the Sox got him it would only be for a year, most likely, but it would cost a lot of minor league talent, plus teams have to over-pay to trade in the same division. Plus, the Yankees have only given minor creedence to actually having positions for guys to play. Get talent and put them somewhere. Though Hunter would be very good in center for them.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 15, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) MMM...portillos. Call me a woman, but i'm currently in love with the Chopped Salad That's what my aunt gets, so...

The Yankees will be desperate to get him and will probably pay most of his salary. Maybe I'm over-generalizing the Yankees approach to trades but I doubt I'm too far off.
