Sox @ Twins Game Thread
So I guess Widger is redeeming himself for ruining all the pitchers?

Brillance from Mariotti
Even when Mariotti is right I don't have any respect for him. He doesn't think anything until everyone else says it first.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE(soxman352000 @ May 14, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) I didn't, knowing how God awful Carlos Silva had been pitching this year I know, but I was expecting a barn burner with Augustin Montero coming out and things getting much worse. Good job by Buehrle to settle down and get through the rest of the game.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
I admit to giving up on them in the first. Unbelievable.

Wouldn't be so bad having the Tigers in 1st right now
This is like people saying that it's good to lose a few games so a team doesn't get too high on itself. I don't get it.

Vazquez tipping his pitches....
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) IT was either a changeup for FB Vazquez hit. Definately not a breaking ball. But I thought a bigger problem was Vazquez let the hits get to him and he was rattled by that and the bad call(s). This seems most plausible to me. If Widger were actually causing as many problems as people here think he is, he would be gone.

Garland
QUOTE(Felix @ May 13, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) That doesn't make Garland's contract any better, especially with the no-trade clause for '06. I think it does because the other bad contracts that have been given out set the market and Garland's deal isn't that bad considering his age and the year he had in 2005. Many teams will take that contract just for a guy who can take the ball every 5 days. If Garland is put on the trading block there will be someone saying that he just needs a change of scenery. In any event, you have to admit that he isn't breaking the bank. Like I said before though, I'd rather that he pitch better so that he doesn't need to be dealt.

Garland
QUOTE(Felix @ May 13, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) You don't give out 29 million dollar contracts to mediocre starters either, but that was already done. Plenty of teams give much worse contracts to mediocre pitchers.

Garland
QUOTE(Drew @ May 13, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) Even so, 12 wins a season isn't bad for a back of the rotation starter. While this is true, I'm sick of making this excuse for him after last season's success. Plus, there is another guy on this team that might win more than 12 games a year and he isn't in the rotation yet. That tells me that if Garland doesn't show a semblance of last year, he might find himself gone in a trade. That said, I'd much rather he start pitching better than get traded.

Garland
I really hope this isn't his act and he actually has something to get together.

White Sox at Twinkies 5/12
Ozuna, huh? Why do I feel a ball is going to be misplayed because of that roof?

Yanks announcer Michael Kay farts during broadcast
Unless he had the mic ready to capture it I doubt that's a fart.

The Rowand Catch
Phillies website said the new padding was to be installed this weekend...oops.

CANCELLED: Angels vs. White Sox
QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) yeah but don't they put out the tarp when they know its going to rain? Yes, but the outfield will have pools in it. They have good drainage at the Cell, but this has been too much rain with no break.

CANCELLED: Angels vs. White Sox
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) and this don't look pretty... http://weather.chicagotribune.com/radar/mi...ze=2x&type=loop That's the other problem, it's supposed to rain until Monday.

CANCELLED: Angels vs. White Sox
QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ May 11, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) Is it really cancelled? Its not raining that hard right now and the game doesn't start till 7 It rained all night, and the sun hasn't come out so the field has had no chance to dry really. So yeah I think it's cancelled.

CANCELLED: Angels vs. White Sox
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 11, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Do they pick the make up day today? If both teams have a common off day that works very easily then probably yes, but since the two teams don't play for a while there's no guarantee. And yes the game has to be played in Chicago for those who are worried about profits. They'll wait until the Angels are playing another Central team around these parts and throw the game in there. Er, that's what makes the most sense to me. I have tickets to this game so I'm pissed.

This guy should run for president.
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2006 -> 08:34 AM) Al Gore's biggest mistake was for whatever reason, not utilizing Bill Clinton at all. Love him or hate him, the guy has drawing power. That's easy to say now, but in 2000 every Democrat seemed to be distancing themselves from Clinton because of the scandals. They'd still be distancing themselves, IMO, except that Republicans have proven that sex scandals and perjury are sometimes the least of our worries.

Do WORRY about our Closer
It would appear that Jenks is having trouble recently when he comes in during an inning rather than at the beginning. Maybe he just can't get a rhythm going. Tonight his velocity was down, but the ball was probably wet. I guess I can make excuses all day, but the fact is he's only blown one save and has really looked good for the most part.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!&#
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 9, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) They talked to Oz after the game, and there wasnt really anything to say that isnt new. Its almost boring to talk about this team. Im sure it might come as a surprise to some out of towners, but its very hard to find Sox talk on sports radio in Chicago. There just isnt much to say. They kick the s*** out of everyone, and thats pretty much it. I love being a Sox fan right now. There is nothing better. So true. Until this team goes into a lull and people start complaining we wont hear anything about them on the radio. No news is good news I guess. Good times.

Cubs Protest
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 8, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) What about the us vs. them ads? Further proof that the Sox enjoy mentioning the Cubs in advertisement. Of course it made sense at the time, but I agree with Jimbo that it would be nice if that stuff doesn't continue.

Cubs Protest
QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) very creative, but the sox don't need to even mention that other team.... Unfortunately the Sox already have a rule about not throwing baseballs back, which seems to be a knock at the Cubs so I guess it's too late. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 8, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) As long as they keep on filling up the urinal and swilling their overpriced beer nothing will ever change on the north side. It won't matter if they stop showing up, the Cubs will just spend less money and be able to blame a lack of fan support for their sucking. The team will still be profitable. The thing is, the Tribune Company is in bad shape and it would be easier to sell a popular Cubs franchise rather than one that isn't drawing fans and has people protesting, IMO. They need Montreal Expos attendance to make any difference, and that will never happen. Oh well, screw them.

Charlie Haeger to likely start Wednesday
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) One thing, why would they call him up to start over McCarthy? And why would he even be starting to begin with? Actually BMac has appeared in consecutive games on Sat and Sunday so he wouldn't be available to start that soon unless you only expected like 3 innings. That said, I don't believe this rumor for obvious reasons. Plus I think it would actually be easier just to move Garland and Vazquez up a day since today is an off day.

What makes you want to pull your hair out more?
Until Bonds goes away I go with him. After that it'll be back to hating the Red Sox and Yankees. I still can't believe they have a guy doing full time coverage on Bonds. Pedro Gomez must hate himself.

This Loss is on Ozzie
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 5, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Just curious, has Ozzie deemed Jenks the "closer" this year? I don't know if a manager actually has to announce it, but Jenks is out there in the ninth so I say yes.
