Well having been admitted to the Wisconsin Bar it is now time to find a job 1000 miles away. Anyone know of any attorney jobs around Milwaukee or Madison?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) FIRST OFF...touche. Second, what the hell do people do when they don't go out on Friday nights? I'm bored out of my f***in mind. It helps to have a girl around.

Been watching some of the classic horror movies. I've started with House on Haunted Hill (Vincent Price is awesome in this one, but the ending is lacking), The Last Man on Earth (later remade into I Am Legend), and Cat People (really good movie).

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) ..which he is choosing not to do. Boston has the position here. They will sit on him and pay his $3M for doing nothing, rather than letting him go for nothing at all. Cubs will cave and give them McNutt or someone else valuable, what few valuable pieces there are in the Cubs system. It's a longevity clause. Everything I've heard says he would get it if he stays. In fact, I'm pretty sure the Cubs are paying the longevity clause amount in addition to the yearly salary.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) Except that Boston could sit on him for a year. Anyone who comes into Chicago is obviously their second choice. Hell the Red Sox could reassign Theo to something else in their organization just to get rid of him. They aren't going to pay him $7M to sit around and then lose him for nothing in a year. The Cubs would likely have an interim GM from within for a year then hire Theo next year and it would cost them far less. I really don't think this has anything to do with Theo anyway. It's about all the people he wants to bring over from Boston.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) Yep, the Cubs got things out of order and have painted themselves into a corner. Should have tried to keep any deal with Theo hush-hush until they could work out compensation. Now they will most likely lose Castro and/or Garza, or embarrass themselves by backing out. Except all the reports initially came out of Boston. I don't think the Cubs leaked this.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 9, 2011 -> 08:36 AM) Random question (not related to me): I was talking with someone the other day and they said that it is illegal for an employer (anyone above you on the org chart) to ask you if you are looking for, or have interviewed for, another job. Is that true? I'm going with no, that is not true. It's not illegal to fire someone for looking for another job so I don't see why they can't ask.

Ken Burns's Prohibition continues tonight. Part 2 of 3. I'm sure Part 1 will re-air, but it was the 100 year lead up to prohibition.

So last weekend I was in Maine and brought a few beers up for the trip. Two from Ithaca brewing: 13 and white gold. Each were good though and recommended for anyone that can find it. The real winner was Mikeller rauch beer geek breakfast (Aka beer geek bacon) which was outstanding. It is a smoked oatmeal stout and lives up to the billing. The stuff has an over powering bacon smoke aroma as soon as it is poured. Actually quite intimidating. The smoke levels are second only to some true rauch beers but that flavor mellows after a couple sips. It takes on it's true form as a smoke tinged oatmeal stout. Rich in chocolate and a hint of graham cracker with that smokey backbone. Im actually not a huge Mikeller fan because their prices are ridiculous. But I bought this because it was the last in stock and I wasn't sure if I would see it again anywhere around me. This one is worth the price tag. I think it was $12 for a 550ml. I also grabbed some Allagash which they stopped selling upstate due to demand in the city and grabbed a sided of Cadillac Mountain stout, which is a favorite of mine. Anyone in Maine should give it a try. Also had a chance to have a Maine Beer Company Peeper Ale. Very good stuff decidedly on the hoppy end. Maine beer culture, in general, produces a sort of working mans micro brew. Rarely spectacular but always solid. The Peeper was definitely at the high end of the local Maine products. Oh and I had my first true Dark and Stormy. Everywhere in Bar Harbio has them on the menu it seems. I don't know what ginger beer (probably Maine Root) they used but fresh ginger was added to the drink and it was awesome. I never fancied myself a ginger fan but it is addictive. As the drink mellowed over the ice the heat settled and sweetness of the rum came through. It was damn good. Especially on a dark and stormy night along the ocean.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Those are some pretty big drops. I like that people are trying local brews more. I just hope it's not a fad. I dont think it could be considered a fad. Within the industry there are fads, e.g. IPAs or wheats. But the ideal behind the craft beer movement is not limited to beer. It is in eating local, looking for higher quality spirits, and higher quality ingredients. I think there are a lot of people willing to spend more to eat and drink far tastier foods even if it costs more. There will be a day of saturation, then it will be interesting to see what happens.

QUOTE (Be Good @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) Has anyone ever camped or heard about Pittsfield State Forest, MA? Thinking about going in a couple weeks...wanted to try something new in New England during fall foilage. Check the foliage maps. That might be a bit early for the good leaves but they are changing a bit earlier up here than I remember, so it might be perfect.

I was sitting on a bottle of Mount Gay Eclipse for a while not really sure what to do with it. It comes in handy in a few drinks but nothing that I consider a simple, go to. So not wanting to further deplete the rum bottles that get worked out all too frequently for the sake of stalling on another replenishing (read: spending more money), I went to the Mount Gay website and found a simple Mount Gay and tonic. This was excellent. Prepared with the same ratios as a traditional gin and tonic (2oz of heat: 3oz of tonic) and a generous squeeze of lime. Quite spicy and very refreshing. I think I might prefer this to a G&T and Mount Gay tends to be sitting on the shelf at every event without much play.

I have been craving hops all day. My area just got Firestone Walker so I am sipping a Double Jack IPA. Far maltier than one would expect from a DIPA. May be a freshness issue, but I don't care. It's damn good. Lots of pineapple and pine in the nose. Apples, sugary sweetness and some hop bite. A bit syrupy in the mouthfeel. Alcohol completely hidden. This is actually quite chuggable, which is a problem...

I actually only tried the O'Brian's recipe listed because once I tried it, I was in love. Whether a true hurricane or not is not important. It is a killer drink. I used Appleton special for the light rum and Goslings for dark, homemade grenadine and passion fruit syrup. I actually cut out the simple because the recipe calls for passion fruit juice and simple which is overkill if passion fruit syrup is used even though the ratios are a bit off. Each ingredient is well balanced and individually discernable. On the whole, it is similar to a perfectly ripe plum. So I see you sprang for some new Appleton 12, eh? I have to track down that St. James...speaking of which, I haven't heard about my all spice dram...

Missed email causes student to be dropped from school
G&T replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
Seems like a slanted story. I think a letter should have been sent and the school is wrong, but the facts for the student seem off. First, I guarantee he agreed to receiving communications via email in his application (whether he knew what he was signing or not). Second, if you watch the video that "disregard messages" seems like it was saying to disregard message about enroling in the EPT test he already took. Not to disregard all messages about the test he took. But they don't talk much about what should be their best evidence. All that said, again, a letter should have been sent to cover their ass and make sure they attempted to notify the parents for such a serious issue. -
Water is rising in upstate NY causing voluntary evacuations in towns along the Mohawk and Hudson. Meanwhile, much worse, is what's going on in the Catskills. Here is a site devoted to getting word out about their situation. The pics tell the story.
