  1. One thing to remember about Livan is that he is a proven winner in the postseason. IMO he would be a good pickup if we could trade Konerko for him. A 1st baseman is said to be what they are looking for in return.
  2. I don't think those 2 guys would have been here anyway. They would probaly have been the pitchers traded for colon.
  3. But I think that is what hurt us in 2000. to many right handed bats so all the Mariners had to do was use the same reliever(Nelson) in the late innings. I think Everett and Daubach will fix that with there LH power.
  4. The staff is cofident in what they have and probaly will not make another trade. But this was just from the anchors not from guys like Gammons, Thukijan, or Stark. So I think you can take it with a grain of salt, but thats my oppionion
  5. I agree that would mean we would have to give up Cotts and IMO thats to much for a 5th starter.
  6. Thats a tough one I like all the choices. But I voted for a trade, right now everone out there is a 3rd or 4th starter so they would be an upgrade as a 5th starter. My prefrence is Escobar because of his experience in both the rotation and bullpen
  7. Well I agree with you there. If the Rsox are offering Fossum I think we can forget about any deal involving Escobar
  8. The thing I like about those guys over the other ones is that he has had experience in the bullpen. So if we make it to the playoffs he won't have to make a major adjustment there.
  9. I think he would be great for us because of 3reasons. 1. he could come in and be our 5th starter.(an upgrade over Porzio who I now admit won't get it done.). 2. he has experience in the pen so if we make the playoffs he already knows how to deal with the bullpen and would not have to make an adjustment. And he would be a major upgrade over Glover in the 3rd righty role. 3. he probaly won't cost us much in terms of talent. They would either ask for some young pitching(Glover, Sanders, and maybe Rauch, or a young patient hitter.) So what do you think about adding Escobar. BTW like I said now I agree that Porzio won't get it done and agree that we can't relie on him to be our 5th starter much longer.
  10. You know these prospects more than me(I the only one I had even heard of was Webster before the trade) so I will buy into your oppionion that these guys were very good players. My only point is that you can't call a trade a disater, overpayment, etc till you see how these guys do in the majors.
  11. I would add Brad lidge to that combo and make it the best 3 combo. Anyone of them can close games and they all throw the ball 97+
  12. Don't worry about it Rex, I wasn't sure how to spell and glad you could give me the correct one.
  13. And he is hitting over .300! And i think he is on a 8 game hitting streak.
  14. Exactly, plus he got a tough save where he had to go up against on of the best rightes in the AL(Wells) and lefties in the AL(Delgado
  15. The worst thing that has happened to these 2 was that Marte WASN"T picked as one of the top 7 LHs out of the bullpen in the sportingnews last week's magazine.
  16. My whole point is that I think Koch would want to prove that he still can save a game. And he would love to do it against the team that cost him his job. I'm not saying let him do it with a 1 or 2 run league but if there is a 3 run league.
  17. Why not tell the guys to go up there and bunt for a base hit. When they do that they usualy get it down, but when they are tring to sacrifice(except for Robbie), they never get it down.
  18. That may be true but I say still give the guy a shot. Especially if we have a save chance with a 3 run lead, it would be a perfect time for him to come in.
  19. I think we should give Koch the save chance if there is one on Today or tommorow. Yes I know I will get killed for saying this but, look at it this way. I think Koch would love to be able to get his 1st chance at another save against the team that took him out of his job. So he will be pumped to be in there especially since its at home against the home fans who have given him so much grief. Plus I think with him wanting to prove to Jerry that he can still save games I just think this would be a very smart thing to do. Because if we can get him going then we would have 4 guys who can both save a game and pitch well out of the bullpen.
  20. Because they still save 21 million and I can't see anyone taking on all that salary and Giles. The Yanks wouldn't even do it. If you take on Kendall with Giles and pay Kendalls entire contract you should get him for free. Gammons said that the Pirates would be willing to pay part of Kendalls contract or at least I thought I heard him say that. This is just more speculation on my part, because I don't see a trade of Colon coming, but here is another trade idea. While we are talking about trading Colon why not trade him to the Cards. They are more despert for pitching and utilmatly probaly would be willing to give up more for Colon. I think we could potentially get Drew, Harron(SP)(He is there young pitcher they just brought up), Journal, and maybe even Kline. I think Kline may be a little to much in that deal but as I said you never know what a team would give up in terms of getting a huge need. While the Talent isn't as good as the giants deal, we would still be getting talent. Especially in Drew who would fill our need in CF and as a LH power hitter. I don't know 2 much about the 2 young pitchers except they are the the top pitchers if not players in thier system. And of course Kline is one of the best LHs out of the bullpen. Hey maybe we could add Koch to the deal to make sure we got Kline. Personally, I can't see the Cards trading anyone out of their bullpen, because it is incredibly thin, and filled with a lot of injury prone guys such as Isringhausen, and Eldred. Plus they have zero big time prospects that it would take to get a guy like Colon. Your probaly right, and Walt Jockety has said that he won't trade Drew. I just wonder if he had a chance at Colon would he do it. And I would call Harron and Journall good prospects. But like I said they probaly aren't as good as Williams, Foppert, Ainworth etc. of the giants. But it doesn't matter anyway all of it is speculation and till a deal is made there is no deal.
  21. Wrong Everett has had a big hit in the last 3 games. He was at the plate when the rain delay came yesterday. And after it was over he got a huge 1 run double. Everett is coming around on offense and playing well on defense. Get over the deal, yes we traded away 2 very good A players but thats all they were, were A players. Till they prove themselves in the majors you can't say the trade was a failure.

  23. I'm with you Rex, what has Porzio done to make comments like that. Its not like he has came in here and gave up 5-10 runs in both starts
  24. you may very be right and i am wrong on this. here is how i saw it, williams wasn not listening to the coaches but wanted to do it his way, furhter extending his production, he went to the mound with a different mind set than that of his coaches or his catcher when he finally started to pay attention and work on what is needed he flew thru the minors, however he does sometimes revert to his knowledge more than what was taught to him. all this i got from different chats, concerning the gaints on williams. so as i said this was my interpretation and my opinion, and i could be wrong. He could have been like that in the minors and changed I guess but since I have watched him in the majors he seems like a nice person. BTW I wasn't tring to critize you just stating my oppionion on the situtation
  25. I think you have to wrong guy when it comes to additude problems. I mae an effort to watch almost every start of his and to me he has some of the best stuff out there. Plus he seems to be a very nice kid and very respectfull and whne the anoucers talk about him they always say what a nice kid he is and stuff like that. Like I said I think you may have the wrong guy on this one. Oh yeah if a Colon trade does go down(I doubt one does) he would be the player I demand 1st. Then I would try and get Foppert and maybe Feliz.
