QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) I can tell you from my perspective. Complete and utter lack of respect for...well, everyone. I didn't like Bush, but I respected him BECAUSE HE WAS THE PRESIDENT. I didn't like the, "He's not smart," dialogue, whether it's true or not. He is the President and we elected him. Secondly, lack of respect for other candidates. His cracks about Fiorina and utter disregard for any of the other candidates on the dais is appalling. Finally, lack of respect for the American people. He has openly mocked people about their looks, their disabilities or just because they disagree with him. He's a horrible candidate. He's a horrible person. If you want to support him, go right ahead. That's what makes America great. You aren't horrible, but I'm disappointed in you as an American. *like*

Will Siskel, who is wiskel8 on SoxTalk and has been writing for Future Sox for a little over a year now, has been hired by Baseball Prospectus. Congratulations, Will! Good opportunity to point this out. In the past year, current and former FS writers have taken jobs at Baseball Prospectus, Comcast SportsNet, and MLB Advanced Media. Pretty cool.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) BP has lost a ton of scouting talent the to Big Leagues the past few years. And to 2080 Ball.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) I hope he's a good 240 and not a Bartolo Colon 240 if you will. Hopefully the Sox are turning that baby weight into muscle. Who knows how big sports science and advanced physiology and nutrition are in MLB as they are in the NFL, maybe that's something to look into Based on what I've seen in photos and video, and what I've heard from our AZ correspondant, he's very strong and probably has a little weight to lose but not a lot. But if you want to see a bad weight guy, check out Taylore Cherry. Good lord.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Let's put him in centerfield. I mean, if Jermaine Dye can play shortstop...

There are a few incorrect points in his article, but some good info there as well. Adolfo at 4 seems high, and Peter at 7 is WAY too high for me. Lowry at 10 a stretch too but I get it.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 07:17 AM) He's 18. How many ground balls and throws in the dirt will he take in next 3 years? How good were guys like Konerko and Thome at fielding when they were 18? In order to improve a lot, you need lots of room for improvement. If he hits this year, he will be a great prospect. I think you're missing that I was responding to this... QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:56 PM) I wonder if they've considered having him play somewhere besides 1st (like 3rd or RF). With a big arm it seems a shame to have it at first. Then again, they may not want to mess with his head by screwing more with his position. Or maybe, he's just a butcher in the field. I wasn't saying he can't get better. I was saying if he struggles that much at 1B, moving him to 3B or OF is a bad idea.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 04:22 PM) They've met with them several times now. They've been asked to leave by the local sheriff and the community. That's the Sheriff, and that's fine as a start, but I was talking Feds. A county sheriff with a department of 4 officers doesn't have enough juice to convince those guys of anything or carry any sort of weight. He's just the initial olive branch.

They were right to wait and see what they did at first, I think. The next steps needed to be an array of attempts at peaceful resolution with direct, unarmed contact - not sure if that has happened yet? Should have, it seems. By this point, they need to start being firm.

Scouting reports we got say as much, even Capra has said it (in a more elegant way). He made 15 errors in 50 games at first base. That's... sub-optimal. He's young and can improve there, but stretching him to the outfield or third base would probably be a disaster.

County manager says he'll be billing them for the tens of thousands of dollars per day or so that it costs them to maintain the place and deal with their B.S. So there will be a combo of fines and civil action against these idiots to when it's all over.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) How do you get the 6%? Are you factoring in for the large percentage who doesn't vote and thus aren't counting them? Either way, Huffpost poll (1st poll I came up with via google search) had Trump at 36.3. By and large, voting public is split 50/50 so I'll just half the Trump numbers for national poll and get to 18% (now you have votes for independents, etc, but presume that is an inconsequential percentage). So I guess my question is, where is the 6%? By my count that is ~18% of the voting public and could arguably be larger if Trump was truly the nominee (as right now that vote is split and I presume a lot of Cruz voters would vote Trump). http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollst...nal-gop-primary Also, no idea who Mercury polling are and for all I know they are a republican polling service, but thought this was an interesting stat in here on dems likely to vote for trump vs. repubs likely to vote for hillary (really small sample size too). http://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/201...hillary-clinton He's getting 25 to 30% in polls among Republicans. About 25% of the electorate identifies as Republican (remember that much of the electorate does not identify to a party). That's 6 to 8% of the electorate. See more gory math here.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 04:14 PM) They're taking down BLM fences to allow cattle to graze freely, rifling through government documents, accessing government computer systems, and driving around in stolen BLM vehicles. More rope. More charges to be filed. But these are signs it is time to up the response a bit. First level ultimatums have to come soon. They've had their chance to reach out meaningfully, and apparently haven't done so. Feds need to explain how things go from here.

If you're looking for some semblance of hope for the Sox, Heyman is reporting he's being repped by "Hairston kin".

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 08:56 AM) As great as that sounds you know it would never be enough for those guys, once they get a small victory over the US on this and their populace continues to grow then they'll want to escalate because that's what these people do. I was joking. Mostly.

Connor McKnight named the new Pre/Post Host for White Sox
NorthSideSox72 replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Brian Boesch, the Winston-Salem Radio guy, was also up for this job and also hosted twice over the winter as auditions (like McKnight and Hart did). -
You know, maybe if we can get all the racist lunatic militia types all on this wildlife refuge, walk away and leave them there, never having to hear from them again... is that such a bad thing? I think I'd trade away one wildlife refuge if it meant all those idiots would voluntarily walk into a box and we wouldn't have to deal with them anywhere else. They kinda chose their own jail.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) This is a nonsequitir. Millions of people support Trump and millions are "terrible" people? I would venture to say thousands of people who like/support Trump are good people. I bet they donate to great causes, etc. I don't think you need to be a terrible person to support Trump. Some people flat out are sick of politics and definitely want a change and right now Trump is the only candidate certain to shake it all up. You can't tell me some Trump supporters are not, in fact, great individuals. To be clear, somewhere around 6% of the US adult electorate supports Trump, give or take. You are really surprised that 6% of the US is made up of people that are some combination of hateful, racist and/or stunningly ignorant? I'd say he's got more bandwidth still to eat up.

Finally watched Age of Ultron. The silliness was strong with that one, even as superhero movies go. Found myself laughing and pointing a lot. Though Spader was quite good in combination with the nice work on Ultron's effects. That was perhaps the only highlight for me. The rest was disappointing.

NCAA basketball 2015-16 thread

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 11:52 AM) Basketball schools shouldnt continuously miss the tournament I was curious about the history for Illinois and looked it up. From 1993 to 2007, they made the tournament every year but one, winning at least one game there in all but 3 appearances. Since then, 3 appearances (2009, 2011, 2013), 2-3 record in those three tourneys in the 8 seasons since. Not the worst in the Big 10, but a significant drop-off. Not sure I'd call it "continually miss the tournament" either though, as there have only be one or two year gaps. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) Would this indicate that the added jobs were more "blue collar" jobs while more "white collar" jobs are moving out? With more jobs but less pay especially with the new minimum wages, it would seem that the US is losing higher paying positions. Or is this an incorrect assumption on my part. This is where it's a problem when politicians (and both parties do it in this case) rally so hard to protect old school manufacturing and fossil fuel energy sector jobs. Those jobs are trending away, and only ridiculously nationalist laws would even slow that down (while destroying the economy in other ways). The key for the US is being out in front on new technology and innovation - then the developing economies can pick up industries in later stages. That's the only way to see big time wage growth in this country, today.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) Not in it for the short term. However, it still hurts when you see a near $2k loss within a week in the TD Ameritrade account. Now the question is are we in for a bear market or is this just a minor blip? I'm really not liking the idea of losing another $10k in this market if we are truly headed for a big drop. Could take 4-5 years to recover from that type of loss. Big jobs number out this morning, nice 292k showing.

Sox Claim OF Daniel Fields off Waivers from Dodgers

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) Best defensive OF in the Tigers system for a couple years. So looks like we got Trayce Thompson back. Not nearly that good, though similar in some ways. This isn't a significant prospect. I mean, the Tigers DFA'd him. -
I don't get the Terminator 2 love. I mean, looking at the first three Terminator movies (I haven't seen any after that), the original is far and away the best, with T2 and T3 about the same and neither that great. Actually I feel like T3 was a better film than T2, though less exciting. Then again, I'm probably the only person here who thought Alien3 was a good movie (though not quite as good as the first two). I like to pretend any Alien films after 3 don't exist.

Sox Claim OF Daniel Fields off Waivers from Dodgers
NorthSideSox72 replied to shysocks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He's like Trayce lite. Lots of walks and K's, speed, good defense. But Fields had a lot of injuries over the years too, didn't show as much power as Thompson, and struck out more in AAA. Not in Detroit T30 from the two lists I saw, and Detroit's system isn't that good.
