White Sox (Buehrle) v. Yankees (Tub O' Goo)
NorthSideSox72 replied to Reddy's topic in 2011 Season in Review
I like our chances against Colon, and I don't think MB is going to keep posting an ERA in the 5's. Also, I'm going to say it... 2000? -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) Charlotte lost 8-5 Viciedo with a HR and Danks with a good day. Barons lost 7-3 Leesman 6 IP, 0 R, 8 K, 0 BB, 3 H Dash won 3-2 Rienzo with a decent start. Martinez stays hot with two more hits. Kannapolis won 13-6 Thompson 3-4, HR. Drew Lee stayed hot too. LOL, your link to the Kanny game is actually a link to Thompson's profile. Flowers with the silver sombrero, yikes. Kyle Colligan disappointing so far.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) You are making a fantastic case for why I should never vote for Democrats again. If this is the best they can or will do, f*** 'em. Let Republicans win, let the system collapse because it's fatally wounded anyway. You have left reality. Let the system collapse? Fatally wounded would describe some dictatorships in the Middle East maybe, or some African countries without real governments. They US system, for all its flaws, is still in much better shape than anyone elses. And I am talking about financial, governmental, political, just about any "system" you could be referring to. Let it collapse? I mean, that's akin to deciding to lose some extra flab by taking a hunting knife to your love handles. And then oh by the way going back to eating nothing but Doritos and Nat Light. Behavior is the problem here, primarily - not the system.

You want to know the biggest reason why Congress has become an even bigger clusterf*** in recent years? Or why so many politicians are acting like buffoons? Because people have stopped being interested in: 1. Researching, understanding and supporting candidates for office (or even bothering to vote) 2. Accepting the shades of grey that make up the country 3. Policy that might offend their views but is best for the country as a whole 4. Cutting out the noise on both extremes and focusing on the real, actual differences in political play Its not the system, or the Dems, or the GOP, or the Tea Party, or the terrorists, or religion... its laziness (physical and intellectual) on the part of the voters, which shows itself in the above 4 behaviors.

Sqwert and Strange, you guys are going seriously hyperbolic here. Obama's policies and actions have clearly, demonstrably been different than Bush's. And if you know a fair amount about how the Iraq war got going in BushCo, you'd know quite clearly that Obama would not have gone down that road. What you really mean to say is, Obama has not been change-y ENOUGH for your tastes. And I get that, that makes sense. Its just laughable that you push that all the way off the edge of the scale into Obama = Bush. I'm disappointed in Obama too, on some things. That doesn't mean I need to resort to extremes to try to make a point.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) the old GOP sucked. I like the new tea party GOP. They do rock for entertainment value.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) I don't know that they are. I've been somewhat surprised at how the people I thought would form the intelligent faction have just given up and let the Tea Party side take over everything. I don't think that's happening with the whole bloc. We'll see in 2012 though.

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) It's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black is all. It's just ironic an ISU fan is the first person to jump on that. Sort of agree, but really, there is a difference between players that were bad teammates or were immature, and guys who spent 3 years in jail for a felony. -
I don't see a bubble there at all. But what I do see is, as college expenses keep going up far higher than the rate of inflation, that its furthering the unfortunate nature of how far the well-off and poor are from each other as they go through their lives. Higher college costs mean fewer poor students able to get degrees.

To clarify on this whole 3rd party candidate thing... I am not saying you shouldn't vote for a 3rd party candidate. In fact I said that I hoped this current 2 party system falls apart. What I said, that apparently didn't get across, is that you save your bullets for a candidate who has a chance to at least register on the scale. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 07:52 AM) Did I really say "breakup"? I guarantee I said that it was going to be interesting to see how they recovered from 2008, and it's been an interesting recovery/conflict, one that is, frankly, still going on. And you have to admit, outside of the people who were planning it and funding it at AFP in 2008, no one else really predicted that either. Well, and the GOP sort of is breaking up, right now.

Time for some early season overreactions!

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 12:57 AM) Good writeup, Viciedo also suffered that broken thumb, so slow start excused. Danks, Flowers - I'm moving on, also shows that spring training stats are absolutely worthless. I agree on Danks, but I'm not as ready to give up on Flowers yet. -
Too bad B-Ham is crowded with OF's, because Martinez needs a promotion. And I think we can say that Remenowsky is handling the jump to AA pretty well.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) not compromising your beliefs does not mean you cut off your nose to spite your face. You can either be productive, or a petulant child. But when president Palin rolls into office and starts passing archaic s***, defunds health care and education, and anything remotely progressive just because it's progressive, I don't want to see you complain one f***ing time. Because you put her there. I tend to agree with this. If a 3rd party candidate shows they have any real shot, I would certainly consider it. But if they can't get even the hint of a groundswell of support, something beyond a 3% type level, then I won't waste my vote that way. Sqwert, I would LOVE it if the two-party system slowly falls apart in favor of 4 or 5 parties... but in the current environment, that's is highly unlikely to occur. One thing I will disagree with you on though, bmags, is the idea that it only works in that direction. I think in the case of THIS election cycle, its a 3rd party CONSERVATIVE that is far more likely to throw things off than a liberal candidate. The GOP candidate who wins nomination, if they are very far right, has basically zero chance to win in the general - which means an Obama re-election. The GOP's only hope is to nominate a non-crazy-right candidate, and hope that no significant right wing independent runs. If the GOP nominee doesn't satisfy the Tea Partiers, and they field a candidate who can garner even 5%, then again, Obama wins. I just don't see a far left candidate gaining significant support, barring some super star and super-funded personality we just aren't even aware of yet.

Arizona requires you to carry your papers

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) I´m a Hispanic and if a cop in Arizona asks me for my papers, I will tell him to go f*** himself in Spanish and in English. Much as I despise this stupid law... I wouldn't recommend that reaction on your part, unless you want to spend some time in the police lock-up. -
The B-Ham bullpen has a number of relief arms worth watching... but because there are as many as there are, it seems like they are having a hard time getting them all good innings. Looking at the guys I'd consider actual prospects, and their IP numbers so far through 15 games... Infante: 6.2 Jones: 8.2 Lindsay: 6.2 Remenowsky: 6 Cofield: 7 Plus you have Omogrosso in there, who they may still see as a viable prospect. Just seems a bit crowded in there. Looking at Charlotte, aside from Carter, Nunez and maybe Socolovich (who has been getting hammered), there's a whole lot of garbage in that pen. I'd have to think one or two from the list above gets promoted semi-soon.

I said this last season... I know he's old-ish, but I really like Dylan Axelrod, and I think he's worth watching.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) Quentin with a White Sox record 11 doubles in April.. still some games left. Yeah I saw that too. Eleven doubles on the season so far... and its April 21st. Jeezus.

Just checking on my AAP, weird that Remenowsky hasn't pitched in like 4 or 5 days. I wonder if Tyler Kuhn can be what CJ Retherford was supposed to be.

4/20 GAME THREAD: Sox @ Rays, 5:40pm CT

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:27 PM) I might have to try this some time How does it feel? Feels good. Will feel better when they win about 8 in a row. Every time I start a game thread in here, for years now, I always do it that way. -
QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 06:14 PM) I am applying to the WI bar. It asks if I ever used marijuana. Of course the answer is "yes" while I was in college. It was only a couple times actually and haven't touched it since. I am going to admit to it though they wouldn't find out, but lying is probably worse than admitting it. Anyone have any experience with this? Do they actually care at all? I've been down that road when testing for a federal agency. I elected to admit it, because in this case, I knew for a fact they would be digging deep in their background investigation, as that was par for the course. They even said, hey, a little of that sort of thing in your background isn't a problem. Lying about it, however, will get you cut. With the bar, I really don't know if they do anything more than a simple electronic background check.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) http://www.cnbc.com/id/41312370/10_NFL_Sta...nkrupt?slide=11 Augusta, GA–(ENEWSPF)– ARTHUR JAMES MARSHALL, JR., 41, from Augusta, Georgia, was sentenced late yesterday by United States District Judge J. Randal Hall to 69 months in prison and five years of supervised release for his mortgage fraud convictions. MARSHALL was also ordered to pay more than $3.6 million restitution to his victims. Before imposing sentence, Judge Hall remarked that mortgage fraud was a major factor in pushing the country’s economy to “the brink of depression.” United States Attorney Edward J. Tarver stated, “Mortgage fraud poses a significant threat to our nation’s financial system. This prosecution demonstrates the ongoing response of the United States Attorney's Office to protecting the integrity of the financial system of this nation. Relying on the joint efforts of federal, state and local law enforcement, this office will aggressively prosecute those who defraud financial institutions and other victims of mortgage fraud.” Evidence presented at sentencing revealed that MARSHALL falsified sales contracts, personal finance records and other documents as part of his mortgage fraud scheme. The victims of MARSHALL’s scheme included banks, a family who never got a property title from MARSHALL after paying him $100,000 for a home, and members of his deceased father's American Legion post. My former boss made a list of ten former NFL "stars" (although he was really a 3rd wide receiver and kick return guy) who went bankrupt and is now serving a five year prison term for real estate fraud. Luckily, I was only the director of his non-profit for less than a year before I got out in 1996. But it's interesting and ironic that some of my worst suspicions were confirmed more than a decade later. On the other hand, I did get to meet and hang out with Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, Sterling and Shannon Sharpe, Tyrone Wheatley, Garrison Hearst, Dan Reeves, Hootie & the Blowfish...and talk to Ditka and Marty Schottenheimer of the phone, and, my worst crime of all-time, accidentally hanging up on "The Coach," Tom Landry. Of all the athletes I met, though, Herschel Walker far and away was the most interesting and genuine. "I'm your Huckleberry." Roy Halladay What the heck do this post, and that news article, even have to do with the subject of this thread?
