QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) This'll at least create an interesting situation, the state of Texas arresting TSA officials for the performance of their jobs. Unenforceable and unconstitutional.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) Morel is already losing the job. It isn't much of a leap to think Omar will take it. Wouldn't surprise me if soon, Morel gets sent back to AAA to sort out the hitting, and Viciedo gets called up to get OF at bats. Vizquel and Teahen to man 3B.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2011 -> 09:20 AM) I'm curious to get some details about this kid. Is he a true submarine guy, or it is more of a Brad Zeigler type motion? No he's a regular overhand pitcher. But he's got a super high leg kick, and his delivery is a little like Bronson Arroyo. I interviewed him a couple years ago, and put a scouting report up on future sox.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 15, 2011 -> 11:11 PM) Yeah that is true. But Day had a 1.52 WHIP compared to Renenowsky's 0.38. Also Dewon Day also walked a lot more guys, like 4-5 per 9, where Rem averages like 1-2 per 9. Rem's control is much better than Day's ever was. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 16, 2011 -> 12:31 AM) I still haven't seen Remenowsky pitch. I'd be really curious to see if he's added a few clicks to his fastball. He had been typically 89-90 a couple years ago, but they had him on a conditioning program to improve that (apparently coming out of college, he really hadn't been on any sort of program like that). With the superb control he has, multiple breaking pitches he can throw for strikes, a strong change, and his unusual delivery (which supposedly make the fastball look a lot faster)... if he was throwing 92-93 instead of 89-90, he could be something special.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 14, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) Great start for Griffith. 0.1 inning 3 hits 7 runs 3 walks 1 k 1 wp But hey, he's got a perfect 1.00 K/out ratio!

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 12, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) Wolf hunting to re-start in the Rockies http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/blog...cies-protection Why this might be a bad idea First of all, that Guardian article is poorly written and gives a very false impression. Federal protection is not ending in "The Rockies", its ending in Montana and Idaho. Its still in place in WY, CO, and WA that all have current grey wolf populations, its still in place in AZ and NM where Mexican Wolves are present, and they remain endangered in states where they are likely to begin populating soon like IT and OR. Second, it seems like the populations are healthy enough for hunting, and that the problem isn't that - its the LEVEL of hunting that is at issue. And there I agree that it seems like killing off 40% a year is a stupid number for any species. Likely that number will be challenged in court, and possibly (hopefully) reduced.

A Carter is just not having a good season.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 11, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) Agreed a thousand times over. Tallest midget contest. Miller, Bud and Coors products = sex in a canoe. Give me a real beer.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 11, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) My experience with CCs: Chase - Awful, all CC companies are out to screw you, its true, somehow, but Chase takes it to new levels Crapital One - No, that IS how it is spelled, trust me HSBC/Orchard - Great for credit rebuilders, but steep in annual fees, and their cards will never 'grow' with you Citi - I never cared for them much, but there are people that swear by their Citi cards, so its a toss up Discover - Always did me right when I had one, unfortunately I don't carry one anymore GE Money Bank - Really only good for department store/"Mall" store type places. Steep APRs as well, avoid em unless you just want some diversity Barclays - This is who my big CC is with now, I've never had a single issue with them, and have had automatic-CLIs(Credit Line Increases) every 6 months, like clockwork. Besides, who can deny the look of this card?? (Yes, my CC has William Shatner on the front of it...)

Reports of real progress today. Rebels took the Misrata airport, as well as another town, and have surrounded Qaddafi's forces in two oasis towns.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 10, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) I double checked, and Jared indeed has the most K's amongst all levels in minor league baseball. Sickels also wrote about him today. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/5/10/2...-2011#storyjump He's still young, still raw, and is still getting back into a rhythm. They should put him at Kanny at this point.

Companies threaten moves a lot. But they actually move out of state only very rarely, in terms of HQ's. The executives have the say, and they'd rather not move in a lot of cases. They make noise about it to get tax breaks, and it often works.

Dan Remenowsky is mortal. At least after he gave up a couple runs in the 7th, he had a solid 8th, so he didn't pout about it.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) I read an article on yahoo that our economy may be f***ed forever. The middle class jobs are disappearing. It is all upper upper class or low paying jobs. The middle paying jobs are all turning into low paying jobs because of company cuts and people "lucky to just have a job." Concerns? Do you all know of any families that have had to move out of their houses into tiny apartments? How are people with 3-4 kids paying the bills? There are certainly some serious fundamental problems in the US economy that are unique to right now, which have either not been addressed or only partially addressed. That should indeed instill some fear. On the other hand, in every major recession or depression in this country's history, it was thought the economy was "f***ed forever", so I wouldn't go buying any missile silos to ride out the apocolypse or anything.

QUOTE (Tex @ May 9, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) It won't be his body. His body is being held along with the aliens we've captured. In an old box car in the desert on an indian reservation in New Mexico? Like on the X-Files? Google Earth should help us find that. I'm in.

QUOTE (Art Vandelay @ May 5, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) I have my master's in I/O but I picked an online school and that's not going too well for me. Hope Roosevelt works out for you. I have a friend who got her I/O master's from Roosevelt and she is working as a psych researcher, working with stats/SPSS quite a bit. My wife has a PhD in I/O. Works for a large insurance company in their organizational development area. For that field, bear in mind that both SIOP and the local Chicago equivalent group for I/O both have job boards, specific to your area. I'd take a look at that if I were you.

I don't think he can play at the level he is now for another 4+ years, which is what he would need to do to be in the discussion. He's got too many injury issues that have lingered throughout his career. But I suppose if he can hit like he has last year and this year, for another 4 seasons, then he starts to be in that discussion.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ May 7, 2011 -> 08:50 PM) Remenowsky faced 4 batters and struck them all out. he's gone 14.1 IP with 21K's 1BB and an ERA of 0.63. He continues to impress, not bad for a guy who went undrafted Nice recovery from the previous outing where he gave up his one run so far this season. I wonder, at what point, a guy like this, who keep defying expectations and performs at that level, starts to pass the more highly considered prospects and gets promoted.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 6, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) I don't know much about Barons 2b Tyler Kuhn but he seems to be having a decent season so far. Is he a legit prospect? Kuhn can hit, but he's a marginal prospect at best. Scouting report on him is that he can play a number of positions marginally at best, but none well. And he's got no power, and no speed to speak of. Basically he is, at best, a good contact hitter. Ceiling is a Lillibridge replacement.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 6, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) It might not be, but it's just so wrong. The legislature passes a bill increasing business taxes and then the governor is given unilateral power to strike deals with specific businesses? Something's not right there. Does the governor really have the power to provide tax or other financial benefits to a company without legislative support? I'm actually not sure if the Gov can do it himself or not, probably depends on the state. But I'd also bet that Quinn was working with at least some members of the legislature as well, who would all like to see one of the state's premier employers stick around.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 6, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) i wanna know how this is legal: http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/news/lo...0,1965727.story So, let's impose a general business tax, and then pick out specific businesses to give benefits too. Quinn is such a lying pile of s***. MIght be a bad idea, but, how would it be illegal?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 6, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) 244k non-farm jobs added in April....62k came from McDonalds alone. Unemployment up to 9%, but according to the government, that's just because more people have decided to look for jobs, proving once again that the unemployment figure is a joke of a stat. http://www.cnbc.com/id/42928731 Nice surprise. Hopefully the UE filings come back in line in the next couple weeks.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2011 -> 08:32 AM) BTW, lots of fun stories this morning, including the possibility Chicago already was a target of the train attacks, that were found in El Casa De Bin Laden, back in 2007 when an eerily similar event happened with about a dozen spikes being pulled out right in front of the bridge of a metra/south shore route over I94 on the south side/ Plus the story about the chopper potentially being a new stealth helicopter that no one knew was being built, and of course Joe Biden accidentally confirming, when no one else in the administration would, that it was indeed the Navy Seals that carried out this raid. Yeah, they are saying there is evidence of planning for a train plot - derailing by putting obstacles in the way - to be done around the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

QUOTE (G&T @ May 6, 2011 -> 08:01 AM) Is this good enough for everyone? Should be. Will be for 95%, when combined with everything else. Can't do anything about the other 5%, except hope they stay in their hovels and out of the gene pool.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 5, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) Someone on CNBC said that yesterday, if Oil broke 106 today, that it would plummet because it would break through a triple bottom or something. Gas is also down 5% today. Gas will usually move more or less in parallel with oil, barring refinement infrastructure problems or massive vol trading in crack spreads.
