I think we're the only franchise whose fanbase even knows they HAVE a groundsman. Or an organist. Let alone knows them by name. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) In 8 lifetime AB's Kotsay is batting .429 against Carmona. Jones is 0-3 with 2 K's. These are alarmingly small sample sizes, but large enough to justify not playing Jones here. He still shouldn't be hitting 5th. youre right. with those numbers i'd say 4th is more appropriate -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) I assume that you were referring to my concern that Konerko no longer provides the presence of a bonafide clean up hitter. I'm not saying that Jones will either, but I think that he has the potential to do so. If he doesn't, I suspect that the Sox will simply have an unfilled void at the number 4 spot in the lineup. Thats a scary though. I prefer to blindly believe that Konerko is still a god.

Indians not expected to lock up Choo
ScottyDo replied to RyanPaleAndHosed's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) If South Korea wins the gold medal, Choo said his military obligation would be waived. Wow, that is super intense! I think I'd rather win that than the World Series (were I him), considering the tangible benefits involved...seriously, though, that's a great way to incentivize a baseball game! Maybe that's what we should do with the all-star game. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) Weird. No L-R-L-R format by Ozzie, eh? It's still there if you change your reference point. In fact, it's pretty much always there as long as you separate Danks and Buehrle

I don't believe these "ideal lineups" take into account the types of pitches you get when a quality hitter is behind you, I think they just take your stats and apply them to some probability matrices to come up with the "best" one (EDIT: if I'm wrong, feel free to flame me because I don't actually know). As a result, I don't put much stock in them. I would, however, agree that Kotsay would not be hitting 5th in an ideal lineup and that we should put Rios in there ASAP. 4 righties in a row be damned, the best hitter needs to be in there. I think Ozzie's just riding Kotsay's spring hot streak, though. It's only been one game, too soon to declare his hot streak dead. If he's still struggling in 5 games, I think we can declare that experiment OVA!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 07:27 PM) It's probably a lot easier to get a handgun into a stadium and jump over the fence while shooting than it is to sneak a sniper rifle in. this thread is funny -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 02:40 AM) LOL. They just talked about the Sox for a couple minutes giving us love for the strong pitching, then Nomar and Bobby Valentine gave love to our hitters.....sort of... Nomar: "With that lineup, they got Alexei and Pierre at the top. You know, Pierre is an excellent 2-hitter." Bobby: "And Gordon Beckham is remind a lot of people of a Nomar Garciaparra. And Beckham will really bring up the bottom of that lineup" Alexei at the top? Pierre in the 2-hole? Beckham hitting in the bottom of the lineup? I appreciate them dedicating a few minutes for this team, but wow, the boxscore alone would prove these wrong. Also to note, Nomar gave Beckham the nickname "The silent killer" He named him after a type of fart??? This will not stand!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2010 -> 12:03 AM) How can it a tradition when the team is only like three years old? Every tradition was 3 years old at some point, right? -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 06:26 PM) I'm not sure about his baseball evaluation skills. I know his basketball eval skills are lacking though. He's a guy who drafted guys like Corey Benjamin and Stacey King's of the world over better talent that was available. I get the impression that we're not hiring him so much to evaluate the skills as to run an evaluative organization. Clearly, he knows how to do that, even if he's not sitting in the bleachers watching games.

For those who can't see, he kicked a liner towards the first base line, then ran after it and in foul territory, facing away from 1b, flipped it STRAIGHT FROM HIS GLOVE between his legs to Paulie for the out. But you need to watch it. Wow. -

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) I think Ozzie wanted to risk the steal...cause he'll have Juan leading off next inning. Teahen can steal a few bases, it was a good throw by the Indians catcher. I don't mind stealing there. Juan isn't gonna hit an extra base hit, but he could easily get a single which woulda picked up another run. ^^ I'm fine with it -
