Yeah, he opted into arb, and then they settled for the year.

The arbitration system isn't that simple.

Hopefully they are still working on that deal and tear up this one.

Let's be real here, pretty much anyone who is going to play MLB for $2 million falls into one of two buckets. Too young to get paid what they are worth, or back roster filler material. There are pretty much zero players out there who you can go out and sign on the market for $2 million who you expect a lot out of.

Sure but this is a good way to look down the road with. If we really do spend the next 5 years playing up to our capacity like we all think can be done, and we start averaging 30 to 35k a year at the park, which allows ownership to approach that luxury tax number in real payroll, we will be on the backside of those contracts which will give us luxury tax saving meaning we will be able to have a payroll way over our luxury tax number, without paying luxury taxes. We aren't really thinking about 2021 with these deals, we are thinking of having operating room in 23, 24, 25, etc.

Yeah I am guessing someone notice the #6 in the organization as I saw it talked about in a few places, so they got that fixed.

The Sox need guys like Lopez as a back up to the staff. Anything you would replace him with would cost the same or more anyway. What will be interesting is they already have some mechanical tweaks in mind, so if they can rebuild him at all, 2 million is nothing if they can get him anywhere close to his potential. This year is probably his make or break year, as his arb price will go up again next year.

I think the biggest problem here is that generations of people who didn't need college to succeed, and even so could have affording to do college with a part time job when they would have been in school, are now controlling legislation and not understanding that a college degree is now a minimum in most decent paying jobs, and that the cost of it is now WAY more than what they remember. The results are already hitting the economy, and this is why you see that the younger generations aren't buying houses (they can't afford them with their debt loads) and aren't consuming like previous generations did. This problem is only getting worse. We need to reimagine the entire higher education system from the ground up to come up with something that works for people long term, and not just piecemeal attacks on symptoms.

The Sox starting rotation needs innings, badly.

The Sox already offered tendered ReyLo. They knew within a pretty narrow range what he was going to cost. These talks aren't changing that. These are formalities.
