  1. You just called the site to the mat on some false equivalency to cheating on their spouse. I guess it was actually all of us who responded who took the bait.
  2. The circumvention of the arbitration system seems pretty obvious to me. You either follow the system or don't tender him.
  3. I can't think of a situation where this has happened, but I am going to guess this would cause a labor grievance.
  4. It stunk to let him go, but that contract was bad from the start. Also good for him.
  5. The problem is that he would go into arbitration with a reasonable number on his side based on comps and win. There is no reason for him to take a paycut. That never happens in this process.
  6. Damn. The M's better be picking up a lot of salary there, and knowing the Mets money situation has been awful, that might be.
  7. He made $6.7 in arb last year, so the minimum he could take is a 20% pay cut, or $5.4 million through the process. He would have to be DFA'd to sign for less than that.
  8. I don't think it is bizarre to not want to associate yourself with people who beat their wives. The non sequitor of not being able to know everyone who does it is ridiculous. Once information changes, we are humans able to adjust to the new information. Just because other people do awful things, doesn't mean I will excuse Addison Russell or anyone else whether they be in my personal life or fan life.
  9. This is it right here. He has never been healthy. He has managed to play in 140 games once in his career, while being a year away from free agency. 2012, 2014, and 2018 he was under 100 games played. With Avi Garcia the one thing he has proven is that he can't be counted on to be healthy. In my eyes, the ability to used injuries as a crutch is gone, as injuries have proven to be the norm, and NOT the exception. I think everything else has been well outlined here, but again -2018 his batting average fell almost 100 points. -His OBP fell 99 points. -His OPS fell 166 points. -His OPS+ fell from 138 to 96, or below major league average. -While his power went up in 2018 in terms of HRs, his slugging percentage actually fell 68 points. Matt Davidson and Daniel Palka both put up much better seasons at much lower prices. -Even Avi's defense which had actually gotten to nuetral to slightly positive regressed back to negative last year. Is all of the above worth about $8-10 million? Even if ALL of this changes, and Avi goes out and plays the best 155 games of his life in 2019, he will be a free agent after the season anyway. If we decided at that point that we messed up and wanted him back, we could go out and sign him again anyway, just like we would have to if we had signed him to a deal this year.
  10. Dude is a year away from free agency if he is good this year. As of today he has 0 trade value, 0 defense, minimal OBP, and an extensive injury history.
  11. Zero interest in bringing that circus in.
  12. I am going to guess putting their names on the ribbon board at the UC...
  13. I really see Avi getting something like a 1/4 or 1/5 type of offer to play out his arb year. He can't play defense. He has no OBP. He can't stay healthy.
  14. This. In this day and age, a guy with Avi's skill set is the opposite of in demand.
  15. Again, referring back to guys like Cron being cut, I can't see Avi being tendered either.
  16. I could also see the Nats being a team that makes a Thor pitch.
  17. Things really don't get going until the winter meetings.

Yeah, hopefully the cat adjusts easily, but I have had a cat that split and went back across town to our old place as soon as he could get out.
  19. You heard it here first. greg is on board with a Hosmer level contract for Abreu.
  20. I thought the same thing until recently. But even those expectations might end up being too high. Seeing guys on tier just below Abreu getting put on waivers who were no where near his price on the open market getting cut has caused me to reconsider the idea of what the price of an Abreu extension might be.
  21. With what was paid for Quintana and for Sale, SOMEONE out there will offer more for Thor if SD won't put its top guys into a deal. A team like the Astros could easily out offer them for example.
