White Sox Trade for Jose Rondon from SD
southsider2k5 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 02:37 PM) By the above accounts Rondon plays a good SS, which the Sox really lack in their system other than C Rondon. He gives you a glove first alternative if Anderson is out for any duration of time. The other Rondon was cut midseason in 17. -
White Sox Trade for Jose Rondon from SD

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 02:10 PM) Info from Fangraphs via the 2016 Padres prospect report: Relevant/Interesting Metrics Produced average exit velocity of just 83.6 mph in small major-league sample. League average was 89. Scouting Report Rondon plays a dynamite shortstop with above-average range, arm and athleticism that lead to some acrobatic plays. He also has plus bat speed. But Rondon's load is both excessively high and excessively deep (which should have been the tagline for Deep Blue Sea for several reasons you can infer for yourself), which leads to weak contact and tardy swings. He projects as a below-average regular for me by virtue of the fact that he can play an above-average shortstop, but some don't think the defense is good enough to balance out Rondon's punchless offensive projection and consider him more of a utility man. That's still a solid return for the relief combo plate San Diego traded to acquire Rondon from Anaheim. KATOH+ Projection for first six years: 2.6 WAR There's a bit more on him at he link, scroll all the way down he's #20. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/prospect-re...n-diego-padres/ Seems like a slap hitting utility guy. Meh. I'd probably rather have just kept the spot open. If something pops up, they will just dfa someone else. It isn't that big of a deal. -

Jim Bowden?? @JimBowdenGM 58m58 minutes ago Astros refused to put Kyle Tucker and Forrest Whitley in the Justin Verlander deal, so it’s unlikely they’d put either in this trade. Most prominent names being bandied about:Derek Fisher, David Paulino, & Colin Moran. I was told no deal is done yet.So close? I’m not going there -

2018 better or another chase for the first overall pick?
southsider2k5 replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:08 AM) This is a great example of "Penny-wise, pound-foolish". It is also a great example of what happened in Texas where they had Arod, but nothing else to surround him with. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 07:24 AM) I still don't understand how the charges can be dismissed from what is basically a terrorist takeover of a government facility in a different state. Yea, the government f***ed up with the standoff in Nevada, but why does that make Oregon ok? We have a similar case here locally where local police and prosecutors "forgot to turn off" a camera and recorded confidential conversations between a defendant and their lawyers, and another where they watched the same sort of privileged conversations when they were not supposed to. In both cases it led the police to evidence directly from those conversations which was eventually thrown out in one case. The other case took so long to resolve was evidence was admissible or not, that another judge threw it out because of a constitutional lack of a speedy trial. In any case, the prosecution has a higher burden than the defense where they are not allowed to taint the process, and if they do, it taints the entire case. In this case all of the key parts of evidence that could have been used at trail were hidden from the defense. It is a basic right. Legally it throws the idea of a "fair" trail out of the window. Evidence was hidden and flat out lied about, which taints the entire prosecution. It f***ing sucks as this should have been a slam dunk trial against treasonous activity, instead now the case is blown, and all of the misdeeds of the government will serve as further fodder from the same sorts of lunatics who are still feeding off of things like Waco and Ruby Ridge.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:02 AM) If we're signing a 10 year contract with an opt-out, that's $7 million a year extra. That's the difference between what, $28 mil and $35 mil a year on paper? We wasted that much money on Cabrera and LaRoche (well, would have on LaRoche had he not retired). If we're not going to learn our lessons from where we failed and made mistakes previously then we're going to see the same results. If Machado is our guy, and so far RH is acting like it, it's worth an extra $70 million in contract value (which may never be paid) to get him and be done with it. We have no bad contracts after this season, if we can put ourselves in the playoffs for 3 or 4 years or win a title then there remains huge room for revenue growth, $7 million a year does not bother me when I've seen us spend $11 million a year on LaRoche. To the White Sox that is somewhere around 5% of their player spending budget on the top end. It is significant. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 09:06 AM) But then they, you know, played two top 5 teams in two weeks and beat them both. Stop acting like this criticism is this year exclusively. Every year the SEC is guilty and you guys just figure it what it its guilty for this time. At the end of the day, this is true. The criticism would be more valid if they SEC had lost their playoff games instead of winning them. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 09:36 AM) If Rick Hahn is convinced that Machado is their guy, then Machado should be the first big signing of the offseason. Harper won't sign early, we all know that will wait until the winter meetings if not longer because Boras. If 3b/SS is still our need next offseason and Machado is target #1, the extra $2-3 million a year we might save on him by negotiating isn't worth the risk of him going somewhere else. Call them up on the day that he declares FA, get their numbers, put an offer on the table that works for you, and get it done in November. By the reports of the time, it cost the Rangers $70 million extra to get Alex Rodriguez. -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 04:19 PM) The f***? How did the prosecutors mess this up so badly? http://amp.slate.com/news-and-politics/201...impression=true An interesting read on this.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 01:42 PM) What's the cutoff again? Does 5% clear him? Under 5% falls off. IMO Jones is the definition of a 1st ballot Hall of Famer.

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 01:29 PM) If the bigots stay together, they might have enough to put him in. That's just it. In a 3 way race, if you can hold 40% of a base, you have a pretty good shot at winning. You don't need 50% +1.

David KaplanVerified account @thekapman 7h7 hours ago Source tells me the Indianapolis Colts were all in on hiring Matt Nagy. Uncertainty on health of Andrew Luck vs Mitchell Trubisky + Nagy’s belief the Bears roster is much better made decision for him. “Pace landed him by convincing him sunny days are ahead for the Bears.”

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 12:22 PM) That will get the boatload of Hispanics in Arizona off their butts. The crappy thing is that he is in at least a 3 way race for the nomination, so that divides the vote more than usual.

So here is the latest numbers. I don't get why Andruw Jones is getting so little support. He put up some impressive counting stats, his peak was about a decade, and he was by far the best CF in the game at that peak and was a very good player in the post-season. 5%? What am I missing? I'd put him above all of the steroid guys and above everyone who is below 70% of support currently.
