  1. They are so young when they sign. At 16 they are the age of Sophomores in high school. Especially with pitchers, you just don't know. Guys can grow six inches, add 8 mph to their fastballs, etc. I mean think of how much kids change from their sophomore to their senior year of high schools in sports, then add to that this these guys aren't playing real baseball in places like the DR. They are just training to impress scouts. Realistically, you could do worse than targeting guys for their bloodlines down there.
  2. It is going to be a regular occurrence for at least the next few years. There is so much positional talent backed up in our minors right now, especially at the lower levels.
  3. I hate to say this, but the consequences of us getting the #1 pick would be really bad to the future of this franchise. We know Manny Machado is going to be traded, and the Orioles are already awful with him. Without him they may challenge the Tigers franchise futility levels. If the Sox were to fall to that level or worse, that means that a whole of guys in the rebuild absolutely circled the drain to get to that #1 pick. It would meant that a lot of key guys failed hard in the second half. Hell I would rather see us get a #10 pick because most likely it means that Giolito, Moncada, Lopez, and others had one helluva second half, which is a great thing going forward. Realistically, we are probably not going any further down than 2, but no higher than 5 or 6 given how far down we already are.
  4. I do know that US Steel has restarted a couple of lines. No idea what their fiscal outlook is though.
  5. I'd also have no problem with this. Set up a two tier system for union and non-union workers. Or even set up a system where there are the union workers on a scale, and everyone else for themselves, and let the people decide.
  6. Agreed. I have always hated the idea that the US government could compel people to buy a private good or service. It was a right that has been eroded by a drip over 250 years, but it is one that is the most egregious over time. Property rights have been just utterly destroyed in this country.
  7. He's not going anywhere. He still has 5 or 6 years left here. If he does go, it will have been worth it.
  8. It is a Hawk era term, even.
  9. I am going to say $6 million on the $6.4+ million slot. If he was an at slot number, I think the other picks would have signed already because there is no savings to worry about.
  10. This is the second time this has happened to Yoan. He has GOT to learn to cede the play to the OF.
  11. Needs more Suck it Mauer.
  12. Damn Renteria not having him ready to play.
  13. Damn Yankees? Man their music was everything that was wrong with the 80's.
  14. They are either getting nuked, or given North Korea, not sure which.
  15. It was insane at the time how much Rick Hahn got for Q, even if he had gone back to being 2012 to 2016 Q. When you factor in the slide, this is a body blow of a deal to the Cubs today. He is at career worsts in BB/9, HR/9 and WHIP.
  16. And there it is in a nutshell. The Trump vote eats this stuff up, and uses it to further the idea that they are just as much of a victim as anyone else.
  17. We already have the anti-Christ and false prophets, so we are quickly working down the list.
