  1. Patrick Finley‏Verified account @patrickfinley 60m60 minutes ago #Bears announce the Jordan Howard, Kyle Long (IR), Tarik Cohen and Akiem Hicks are Pro Bowl alternates. Cohen and Long are 2nd alternates. Hicks is a fourth alternate — which is a crime. They didn't specify on Howard, but he sounds like a 1st or 2nd.

  6. Its not my money either, but this a win/win for both teams. The Dodgers could open up the cash to bring back a Yu and push themselves down into a luxury tax reset. Instead of saving say $20 million over two years, the Dodgers are looking to save tens of millions a year MORE once they head back into luxury tax space. We could be talking $100 million or more in savings because of this one deal. The Sox should explore as the Dodgers have so much talent in all levels of their minor league system. We could still using some position players especially in the OF and 3B. A guy like Jeren Kendall was connected to the Sox a lot during the draft period. Lux is another who was connect to them at various points. Also wouldn't mind looking as some the crazy catching depth they have in their system.
  7. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) This is inherently wrong. You should be able to voice your private political views, when not at work, without being fearful that you could lose your job. This is thought control to the nth degree. If organizations are so incredibly "image concious" that speaking publicly( whether on social media or calling into a political show on the radio) about politics, when not at work, is such a workplace "no-no" that you can lose your job there is something really really wrong with US corporate culture in general. The ramifications are incredible. The only thing that should matter is whether or not you are doing your job, not political ideology when off the job. I mean, this is your employer saying "shut up and do what you're told, otherwise starve to death" The only thing that should matter is whether or not you do your job. Obviously, extremely hateful ideology is an exception,(think Nazis) but just voicing reasonable political viewpoints on the web and losing your job is a slippery slope that leads to bad places, somewhere that we don't want to go in this country. In the 21st century when people lead full on boycotts over who an employer employs, this is a complete fantasy land. We live in a society of social warriors, and expecting a company to take a hit because of who their employees are outside of work isn't realistic at all. We have gone there long ago... especially since you contradict your own words by creating exceptions.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 12:25 PM) It's just stupid. Maybe not as stupid as the Pizza Hut employee who put the joke on the box. But it is the same in the sense it seemed they wanted to get fired. If anyone is unaware of the Pizza Hut story, someone ordered a pizza online and asked that the store write a joke on the pizza box. The joke was what do a gynecologist and pizza delivery driver have in common. If you don't know the answer, you can google it. It would boggle the mind to think someone actually thought putting that on a box and remaining employed was something that was going to happen. Yeah, you have to realize there are just some things that you can't talk about with a public persona. Especially because you know your employer has already laid down the law here and targeted people much more important than yourself in this exact regard.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) Wow, ZIPZ sees 4 war for Yelich and 1.9 for Eaton. Selling Eaton after that magical 6 WAR season was a stroke of genius. He'll be lucky to put a 4 WAR season before he retires. I get the sense that guys coming off of major injuries like that are about impossible to project for statistical modeling.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) There are at least 2 more congresspersons who have used a slush fund account provided by the US taxpayer for paying out sexual harassment claims, since 2012, whose identities we do not currently know. Of course they do. That way it is all hidden from the public.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) I doubt he would want to hang at Charlotte very long. Didn't pitch at all last year and was like James Shields at his worst in 2016. Don't really know what kind of prospect a team would give you on a flip even if he had some success, but I would imagine it wouldn't be an interesting one. Probably one you could just buy with what you would have to pay Lincecum. He's pretty much a waste of money IMO. Just remember his glory days. Most deals like this have an opt out built in to them. For a guy who didn't pitch in 17 and only pitched less than 80 IP in both 15 and 16, he almost has to be willing to take some time at AAA if needed. No one is going to offer him a major league deal, and they are going to want to see him be both healthy and effective before staking a rotation spot to him. He is probably going to be looking at around six figures with a promise of a couple of million if he can make a team and pitch for some amount of time.
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 19, 2017 -> 08:58 PM) I'm sure you would but the sox already passed on him once This doesn't mean the Sox were or weren't the best offer last time around. It doesn't even mean they weren't interested. None of us know that.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 19, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) I honestly can't think of a downside to giving him an opportunity. In my mind, the positives far outweigh the negatives. This. Offer him a minor league deal with a couple of million in incentives if he can pitch for the big club.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 19, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) No doubt that's a big part of the magic. Clearly they were movies ahead of their time. But A New Hope just felt like this epic adventure in a vast new world filled with all sorts of mysteries and interesting characters. The problem I have with this new trilogy (so far) is its the same basic formula but without bringing anything fresh to the table. They have this vast universe of unlimited potential and they're simply going to recycle Stormtroopers, Death Stars, & evil Sith Lords again & again. Take us someplace new with the story for f***'s sake. And invest just a little bit of time into making these worlds feel like actual places and not just the "salt mining" planet. These never have to be the deepest of movies with overly complicated plot structures, but try to wow us with fresh new stories, characters, & worlds that let our imaginations run wild like they did as kids. Maybe the next trilogy will be able to succeed in that regard by not having any tie-ins to the existing films. You do that, and you get a meltdown from the traditionalists.

  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 19, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) I enjoyed the movie for the most part, but have also given up on the idea that Star Wars will ever be special again. They'll continue to recycle the same story lines over & over (this started with episode 6), they'll continue double-down on the cheese & tone-breaking humor, they'll continue to ignore character development for all but a handful of characters, and they'll continue to make lore & background info generally less important. These movies have become Disney family-fun popcorn films and that's fine. I think people need to accept that the magic from A New Hope & Empire Strikes Back is pretty much gone and not to take it personally. These are at least far better movies than Lucas' new trilogy. Can't really expect much more from Disney TBH. To be fair, those were generation changing movies. No one has made a Star Wars impact of a movie since Star Wars. A few might have visited the neighborhood, but none of moved in. These movies were to movies what The Beatles are to music.

  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 19, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) I'd be pissed as hell as a Browns fan if they went out of their way to get a guy whose ceiling is mediocrity. Just look at the Rams who hired a young coach with charisma and knows their Xs and Os. Why wouldn't you try to emulate that instead of rehashing another washed up coach? For a team that has won one game in two seasons, mediocrity is a damned good start.
  19. Mike JureckiVerified account @mikejurecki Jeff Fisher wants to get back into the NFL next year, could be eyeing three jobs if they open: Cleveland, Indy and Chicago. Fisher buyout from the Rams was $16M.

  21. Buster Olney‏Verified account @Buster_ESPN 1h1 hour ago You can assume the Mets are among teams kicking around idea of pursuing long-time All-Star Adrian Gonzalez. They're looking for a short-term add-on at the position; when healthy, he's a good hitter/defender; was just cut by ATL, and costs nothing more than minimum salary in '18.

  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 19, 2017 -> 10:21 AM) Random thoughts from someone who's not all that into the franchise: - Did they not hire an editor? It felt like this was intended for a 6-part Netflix series. There were so many times I felt that it was a good point for the movie to end but it kept on going. - Felt that Laura Dern and Del Toro were terrible casting choices. I prefer when they cast somewhat unknowns in this series. It seemed like they found a guy who does a pretty good impression of Del Toro to play that part. - Lots of really cool scenes. I loved the battle in Snoke's chambers after Snoke was killed. The last battle sequences on that salt planet were also really stunning. Overall, I thought it was ok but wish it were a bit shorter. Too many unnecessary scenes that should have been chopped. Definitely true. Heck they could have ended with Leia floating in space, and I would have been good with it... even though I loved where they did end it.
