  1. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) Sounds good to me. I think Acuna and some pitching makes sense. Say, Acuna, Fried, Gohara, and wildcard. I'd still love to get my hands on Kevin Maitan.
  2. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) Braves interested in Q, Archer per Dave O'Brien The more, the better.

  8. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) Trout is an 80 grade player. Flat out elite, perennial MVP candidate, future 1st ballot HOF. 80 grade is a generational talent. Guys like Kris Bryant, Carlos Correa, Nolan Arenado, etc are 70 grade players If Tatis ends up in that camp, I will be thrilled that the Sox have finally learned how to scout Latin America.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) Think we'll see any Adolfo in the backend of any mid season top 100s? Two things would need to happen in my eyes. #1, he keeps up this ridiculous run and he ends up with 25-30 homers, along with a respectable batting average. #2, K's come down into the 25% range.
  10. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) This 2017 version of Chris Sale is for real. Looking at fangraphs: - Manged increased his swinging strike% by an incredible 5% this year, his 16.2% swstr now leads MLB, and is by far his career best. - FB velo increased by 1.5 MPH, 2nd high FB velo since becoming a starter - Mixing up his pitches, throwing 29.2% slider, by far the highest since 2013. - BABIP is consistent with his career norm - Benefited from move away from the cell. HR/9 is lowest since 2014, when he posted a 2.17 ERA All in all, it seems like Sale is going all out and maximizing his talent, the only concern is if his skinny frame will hold up till playoff time. That and his arm in general.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) I've not seen a single place other than Keith Law suggest he's even remotely close to that. That'd be the top prospect in baseball. 70 would be something like Mike Trout.

  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) Tim Anderson is making $4 million per year. If he averages 0.5 WAR per year, he'll be worth the money. There was nothing wrong with that extension whatsoever. You will end up eating your words on that one. $25 million in nothing when it comes to money in a contract. The options of $12.5 million and $14 million only make it better. It is these exact kind of deals that made players like Sale and Eaton even more valuable in deals.
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) Yes, I agree. Alexei was mostly solid across the board defensively with flashes of being really good, he lost a step toward the end of his tenure here as age caught up with him, but he was a player that a lot of teams would have liked to have in his prime. Hopefully Anderson will make himself into frontline starter, but he has a long ways to go to catch the Missile. Just to be clear, there is nothing wrong with the career of Alexei Ramirez as a whole. If we get that out of Tim Anderson, it is a win. The comp comes from both players being extreme free swingers who weren't interested in walks, extremely athletic players with long limbs and long but quick swings who could make the spectacular play in one moment, yet blow the routine play in the next. Both have/had plus speed, and bad base running instincts. Both are medium power guys with mostly gap power, but the ability to run into 10-15 per season.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) And the power. One thing if he's just hitting for higher average, but the power at age 20 is really nice to see The power is his calling card, so that is extra nice. Having him on pace for 20+ homers is great at this age, as usually power is the last thing to come.
  20. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 11:12 PM) Yeah, except that one Ks to the tune of ~26% of his PAs, whereas the other only K'ed >13% once. Oh, and one has a contact rate of 70%, whereas the other had a contact rate well into the 80s. One had a silver slugger to his name, whereas the other one ride a whopping Wrc+ of 95 to sucker KW into giving him a contract extension. lol@ KW. Man, some people hold tightly to old grudges.
  21. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 11:26 PM) Agreed that it's a bit early to judge the progress of the rebuild heretofore. I'm happy to have been wrong about the Front Office's willingness to sign Robert. I'm sad to have seen the impossibly premature extension given to Tim Anderson, whose performance @ the plate looks like that was a bad move. One wonders if Leury might be the better SS going forward. I hate the idea of promoting Collins and his (EDIT) .209 batting average to AA; if he can't make contact, he's not really a prospect, is he? Many of the pitching prospects look like they'll be relievers (Giolito & Fulmer), while Burdi & Kopech need to cut their walk rates down. Otoh, Dunning has been a pleasant surprise. However, all of this said, we're very early in this process, and all of the trends I mentioned here can easily reverse themselves by year's end, for better or worse. This front office still has to disperse more veterans to get back some pieces, and this draft class has only started to report, so ask us in September how it's going then... Where did you see this?
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) I know, arbitrary starts and all that. But Micker started off April injured and cold hitting 233/292/300 Since then, he's hit .309/.355/.585 good for a .940 OPS. He started turning his May doubles into June home runs. He still k's a lot, and his slash line isn't great when he falls behind, but what a turn of events for this guy. At this stage you are looking for progress and improvement. I think an argument can be made that he is the most improved minor leaguer in the entire Sox system this year. While there is still plenty of room for improvement, seeing Micker start to push towards his potential thrills me to no end, especially in a system that still lacks a lot of top end positional potential.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 10:25 PM) Fernando Tatis Jr!!!! I hate you so much right now.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Thanks guys!! Gave my notice today and officially accepted the offer. My boss is out on PTO so went to my boss' boss to tell him, and man what an awkward, terrible conversation. He was shocked by it - I literally told HR that I was looking externally 2 weeks ago and I knew backchannels had been made to inform them that I had turned down an offer just 3-4 months ago. He took a crap on the position I told him I would have - Not even a "good luck" or well wishes for my success. Just said he wouldn't hire anyone with my new title (which may be true, but only for people like him really). Tried to sell me on staying with additional "leadership" opportunities - which was essentially just signing me up for more work without actually leading people or anything. I didn't want to burn any bridges so kept my mouth shut and was just thankful for the opportunities they did give but I walked out of that meeting and completed the acceptance as soon as I could. I'm in disbelief with how badly that meeting went. Yikes. With that kind of leadership there, it sounds like you made the right decision.
