Jake Burger Signs
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) It's one thing if he fell to round 4 or 5, but he fell to the 7th round. I would think he would get slightly over slot, but nothing crazy. Doubtful he risks what should be a solid bonus as a college junior. If he holds out, he will be a senior next year, which gives him zero leverage. I could see a deal in the 300-500k range getting done, giving him a bit more money, but not burning up their pool savings.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 09:47 AM) This is from the pipeline write up on him: "Despite his offensive potential, there's no question that Andujar's most impressive tool is his cannon of an arm. His hands and range are suited for third base, though he still lacks consistency there." http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=nyy John Sickels minor league ball write up: "polarizing prospect; tools are obvious including 70-grade arm and 60-grade raw power but hitting approach is inconsistent, as is his fielding; on the right day he plays like a star but has trouble maintaining consistency with his approach" https://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/12/6/1...spects-for-2017 I believe he is the best the Yankees have, but Arroyo and Chapman easily rank in front of him defensively. It sounds like his issues are mostly related to being a bit raw still, so he still has the ability there to become a good defender. Its not like he is going to outgrow the position or lacks quickness or reflexes to play the position. I believe he has the best arm of any 3B in the minors, but sounds like he has had issues making the plays he should make. Sounds a lot like Tim Anderson in the field.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) How much leverage does Skoug really have though? Sure, he can return to school for his senior season, but he is then banking on being drafted higher when teams continued to pass on him round after round. He would have no leverage as a senior signing and his stock could fall, or he could get injured? Realistically, I agree he has not a lot of leverage. I don't see him getting that amount, or close to it.

Cafardo: Cardinals interested in Avi
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) Lip said he was grossly out of shape, hence my question. I had thought I read he was a hard worker but that thrust that into question. Anyone who feels is isn't a hard worker is very misinformed and hasn't paid attention to the work he has always put into improving.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 10:01 AM) Or Skoug, who will likely want overslot money. Worth noting, the difference between his being drafted in the 3rd round, and in the 7th round is around $435k ($636k vs 201k)

Saved half a million dollars, so that is nice. Hopefully it gets used to bring in at least one of the HS kids.

Cafardo: Cardinals interested in Avi
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) He never took the offer. Anyone else want this offer for Avi hitting .300 by the end of the year? If he hits something like .260 for the rest of the season, he will end under .300.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) I highly doubt GarPax has the balls to pull this off regardless if it's the absolute smart move to rebuild this thing. And part of me is afraid to see what they trade him for.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Is it expected that Burger Boy and Sheets will be skipping GF and going straight to Kanny? Typically they go to Great Falls at least for a little while, unless they think they are really advanced.

GUACAMOLE/AVOCADO
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) I vote that anyone who votes no should have to post in a separate Soxtalk forum only for weirdos who do not enjoy avocados/guacamole, much like the other universe in Fringe. The same universe with ketchup on Hot Dogs

Gleyber Torres Needs Tommy John
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) Ahh...yeah, dunno...I mean they are so deep right now...I suspect it may just cause them to look at other players to replace Headley with. I suspect Torres will be ready to go by next season. Just saw it is not his throwing arm, so that helps. @Joelsherman1 Keep in mind that it is non-throwing elbow for Torres and that he is not a pitcher. Still, terrible news for the kid and #Yankees

Leury Garcia to the DL

Gleyber Torres Needs Tommy John
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) In what way? You are going to be without your top guy for somewhere around a year now, who was set to be in the Bronx at any time and probably going to be a contributor this year. Now that is gone, and getting that from other guys becomes more important. It also puts a question mark around Torres until he actually does show he is recovered and can contribute.

That probably impacts their willingness to deal other top prospects now.

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) If Boston wanted Butler they could have traded #1. There is no point in taking #3 from the team who had #1 and could have directly traded it to the Bulls. Who knows what will happen, but most people believe that Fultz is the best player in this draft. Now that may not happen, but the trade should have gone to the Bulls for #1 and then if the Bulls wanted to do something else, they could have moved the pick. Since the Celtics didnt trade the #1 to the Bulls, i cant imagine the Bulls take the #3. The only way that would make any sense is if the Bulls are getting multiple 1st rounders plus the #3 and the Celts wanted the extra pick from the 76ers. IE the Bulls are getting #3 this year, BKN 2018, LA 2018, 2019 LAC Now that is a deal for Butler and you can live with the swap down to #3 in this years draft. They got an extra #1 pick out of the 1 for 3 deal.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 19, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) We may have just 2 years of Jimmy Butler left before he walks for nothing. If we get that package from Bos, I'd bite. Bradley and Zeller you can turn around and flip for multiple draft picks as they're expiring contracts. It might take getting back some vets to make the cap room part work. If that is the case, hopefully the plan is to turn them into assets as well.
