  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) I think he still would have, college coaches love to give skilled players a second chance. Maybe he starts out at a JC or CC, but a transfer to a big school like that is entirely possible. It's not like there are pending charges, he committed a crime, the law punished him and that's over with. Coaches pass on kids today based on what they post in their twitter and facebook pages. This is a whole other world from that. Look at the retroactive grief that OU got for Mixon.
  2. So I don't know who else is paying attention, but we are to round 30. We still have picked exactly 1 HS player. Not only that, but our last 11 straight picks are college seniors, or even a 5th year senior. Day 3 has given us exactly zero young lottery tickets. 12 of our 20 picks so far today are seniors.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) I can't believe it didn't dawn on me. Rick would only get this complex for a three team deal, which we know he loves three ways. Hahn loves three ways
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) Understood, but that was the question posed. We were asked to say what would we require to trade these three players. As much as this doesn't happen for the Nationals, it doesn't happen for the White Sox either. Theoretically, the Nats could include two of their s***ty relievers in the package to simplify things a bit. Either way, just as much as Q can say Robles isn't coming back, I can say you aren't getting my best 3 relievers. Yep. The more pieces that fly around, the more complicated the deal gets.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) I'll admit I chuckled at American pickers. I just want someone to look at Derrick Holland and call him "Rusty Gold".
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) I wanted to cry for Kim during that last shot as the camera pulled away to show her accident and mess of papers she worked all night on. What a powerful range of emotions during his last two scenes. She gets stuck in the dust/dirt in the field, and then almost wrecks her car trying to get it out. Then pow, the accident.
  7. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) Who knows what the ramifications would have been if the story broke 3 years ago. Maybe he wouldn't have even played college ball. I think it is safe to say he wouldn't have. But then again, maybe he plays independent league ball instead?
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) Amazing...all of big basketball fans I know barely watched the playoffs at all. It must be the casual fans packing in or I just surround myself with my own "bubble" of people. I might have seen 5 minutes of the NBA finals.
  9. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) This is more or less the approach in the Day 3 under the new CBA. If you have enough saved from the first 2 days, you'd open the day with a couple of high profile high school picks and hope that you can use your savings to pry them away from college commitment. If you do not have significant savings, you are basically picking guys who will sign for $100K or less and hope that they bloom late. So no, there aren't usually many BPA picks in day 3. I expect the Sox to start picking a few high schoolers starting in the mid 20 rounds. They would pick the higher profile high schoolers to generate goodwill for future drafts, and the lower profile kids (i.e. the token ACE picks) and hope that they will sign for whatever budget they have left until they hit the loss of pick penalty. This is right about the point the Sox usually take in a couple of HS lottery picks.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Guys, Robles isn't happening without Moncada or Kopech going back If we are sending three plus and controllable pullpen arms, that is absolutely a fair starting price. Bullpen arms are not as cheap as they used to be.
  11. Also worth nothing from the game is that the Sox SP went six innings for the first time since June 3.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) I actually missed the at bat, just saw the highlight dinger. That's cool to know. The pitch before he hit about 400 feet, but foul down the LF line.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) Hypothetical: What would you ask from the Nats for Robertson, Kahnle AND Swarzak Half of their top 10, starting with Robles.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) If they're willing to be aggressive with some of these guys (including the ones in the system already), then I'm far less concerned. In fact, it's exactly what I want to see happen with the group in Kannapolis. It's just that Getz has been incredibly conservative so far. Maybe he's waiting until the all-star break to move guys up, but I hate seeing prospects in their 22-23 age season and up playing in low A, especially the fringey ones. And I definitely don't want to see any top 10 round college picks starting 2018 in Great Falls, which is my concern. 2017 is obviously fine, but you got to get most of these guys to high A pretty quickly if you want them facing age appropriate talent. Those guys won't be in GF in 2018 unless they deserve it.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) You really can't be disappointed in any draft pick making a contribution to an MLB roster. You're elated when they become a star but just making a solid contribution is a win. 100% this. Yes you want stars, but getting a contributing major leaguer at #11 is a franchise win.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) It doesn't make any sense though. He could have struck out in those walks, but he didn't, he walked. No different than a hit. He is striking out 28.6% of the time, which is high, but is not 30% of the time. And more importantly that number is trending in the right direction.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) Where are all these guys going to play though? Kannapolis is already stocked with these types (Booker, Roman, Remillard, Zavala, etc.) plus you have some legitimate prospects in Fisher & Adolfo. Even if all those guys move up (which they should), there should be an influx of young talent already in the system hitting full season ball next year with guys like Robert, Nunez, Curbelo, Hickman/Perez, Zangari, & perhaps other Latin guys. So long-story short, both high A & low A are going to be stocked with bodies as is. A chunk of these draftees are going to get stuck in short season ball and not get the development they need. Would have been great to add at least a couple high schoolers to spread out our talent throughout the system. Almost all will be in Great Falls this season. The rest will sort itself out as some players play their way out of the system (many names have been thrown around of players who have been awful in the minors) and others play their way up.
  18. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) We could get him in a Robertson deal!! LOL LOL Not until after the World Series.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) I thought what may have happened was their draft slot made it difficult to afford late round prep bats. Missing out on the top prep bats, then not being able to afford them alter, seems like they couldn't pass up talent they liked in college. Thats what I thought for rounds 1-10, I am pretty surprised there are 0 prep picks so far. In the back of my mind I wonder if the Robert signing is forcing the team to try to save a few bucks in the draft by not picking the high dollar HS players, in general.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) I agree, which is why it may be better to hold him and gamble that he sustains or even continues to improve. If there is anything I am perfectly willing to sell high on, it is relievers. They are so unstable from season to season.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) Out of curiosity why would you calculate strikeout rate by ABs and not PAs? So it looks worse.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) Everything on Saul continues to blow me away. Pacing, storytelling, details. I need a cold shower. Great episode again this week. I had a feeling the pills weren't going to work, seemed like a classic Gilligan misdirection.
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) And if they don't, my guess is he will be signed as an undrafted FA at some point when some of the dust settles. Some team will give him a chance. Might even be an easier path if he worked through an independent team first. I think this kids best shot is the longer removed he is from the time this happened, and the longer he goes without anything happening again, the easier it is for a team to take a chance on him. With the news still be relatively new, the inferno is too hot for any MLB team to touch him right now.
  24. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) And Callis did the writeup without factoring the wildcard here, Abbott. If Abbott turns out to be as good a prospect as Sox think he could be, we could be a big Day 2 winner here. Abbott is the long game here. They are already talking about him as a two year rookie ball guy. He has a LONG road ahead of him.
  25. 435 feet on the distance. That was 3 rows from the concourse in LF.
