Callis: Who Did Well Day 2
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) And Callis did the writeup without factoring the wildcard here, Abbott. If Abbott turns out to be as good a prospect as Sox think he could be, we could be a big Day 2 winner here. Abbott is the long game here. They are already talking about him as a two year rookie ball guy. He has a LONG road ahead of him.

Which young Sox hitter/s are you most excited about?
QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 08:26 PM) Micker Adolfo. Hoping he puts it all together, I think the dude can be a stud. This is my crush.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 08:04 PM) Man, 32 player names in one post. May be a caufield record. Probably not though.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 07:08 PM) Man, assuming he signs Abbott's development is going to be fascinating. Hard not to actually get excited about the pick after reading that, Cummings clearly saw something special in him. It sounds like the thing scouts dreams are made of

White Sox pick 3B Jake Burger at #11
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) I said the Sox version of Todd Frazier....he hasn't delivered anything close to that on the Sox. How about someone like Robin Ventura, who was drafted #10 and delivered an average OPS of over .800 over a 16 year career. That would be a top end kind of hope as Ventura was a borderline hall of famer by the end of his career.

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 05:02 PM) I think it was Buddy Bell who was singing Jackson Glines's praises. Another reason why I would want that man as far away from my organization as possible. Find me the first minor league director who will tell us a specific player is going to suck.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:42 PM) I guarantee he will be the player who is the most physically fit in the organization if he does. Be interested to see a contest between he and Eddy Alvarez.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) I'm going the other way. I can't imagine a water polo player, signed to Long Beach State won't go there. His scholarship is worth more than the slot money. Unless the sox go way overslot, I don't think there's much of a chance. Typically for HS signings, teams pay their college tuition down the road.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) I'm really digging this draft as well, assuming that we can sign all of these guys Burger Sheets Gonzalez Henzman Johnson McClure Skoug Abbott? I think we got three interesting arms in Henzman, Johnson and McClure. McClure stands out as a player who could be a late bloomer given his huge size. Burger, Sheets and Skoug certainly add a power element that did not really exist within the organization. Each also helps fill out our organizational depth. They wouldn't be drafting them if they didn't expect to sign them all. You don't draft question marks in the first 10 rounds. Period.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) High school first baseman that nobody has ever heard of? Bit of a head scratcher, and who knows if he signs? Seems like he's a swimming star and water polo player. Does not sound like a guy willing to sign for slot or less To be fair, neither swimming nor water polo are going to pay him a dime. He has the chance to make some money with baseball.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Always good to remember only two players didn't sign last year in the top ten rounds (iirc) As a college Junior, you don't have a whole lot of leverage. If you go back to school and go pro as a senior you have zero leverage and pretty much have to take what you are offered, because you can't go back to school again. Signing as a Junior is a pretty important thing for a guy like this. Sure might be slotted at 200k now, but he could be forced into a 10k signing next year.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) It seems like Skoug will be extremely difficult to sign considering he fell as far as he did. How the hell are the Sox going to make it work with slot money on him? My guess is that the White Sox have a pretty good feel for his demands, as well as knowing where they are approximately in how much they have spent on the draft so far. Burger is a $4.2 million slot, Sheets 1.4m, Gonzalez is 640k, Henzmann 455k. All four were over drafted as compared to their projected draft slots. They could easily save some money there to move around to other spots in the draft.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) so soon to be rounds 8-10. Wonder how many actual slot guys we can get, or if any are high schoolers. If we go high schooler I would imagine we may need to draft seniors 9 and 10 I am sure this is where the seniors start rolling in for the Sox, as that is how they have historically picked, unless they knows they have saved a few hundred K on Burger and Sheets.

Day Two Draft Discussion
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) It's the 7th round and the Sox got a top 50 prospect who was looked at as a first round pick at the beginning of the year and you're upset? It's a crapshoot. I like this crap compared to the others. You'd have to think this would have been a solid value pick even a few rounds ago, let alone in the 7th round.
