Sox sent Engel to AAA Charlotte
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 07:23 AM) The organization must not think Engel fits into this rebuild. He has to be upset being demoted after playing well up here. Being replaced by Hansen has to be upsetting to him. He is about a year early. Nothing wrong with giving him a taste because of injuries and such, but he is clearly not quite ready yet

Sox sent Engel to AAA Charlotte
Presumably to make room for Hansen, claimed on Friday from Pittsburgh.

Sox claim Alen Hanson
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) Sox are carrying 13 pitchers ever since Saladino went down. Between Infante, Holmberg, and Pelfrey, the Sox have plenty of guys to DFA to make room for this kid. And they are still burning up the pen even with 13 guys.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) "A dime, a dozen" is just a figure of speech, of course. What I was attempting to say is that it doesn't require a lot of talent, or money, to acquire them. If you need a serviceable player, he is usually available. It's the big run producers that demand significant talent, in return, if a team attempts to trade for them, or acquire them through free agency. A guy like Kendall is one of a few that has the potential to be a big time run producer. That is why people are interested in him, despite the hole in his swing.

Raburn traded to the Nats
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) I'm thinking them getting a player vs. cash considerations had to do with him actually playing for them. Since he was called up, I think like the others before me, this is the return. Probably sucks, but Rayburn wasn't exactly worth much. Literally getting anything at all for Rayburn is a win.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) Is everything recorded in the Oval Office? Everyone puts tapes in quotes or asterisks, is there actual tapes of the conversations no matter what? You'd be kind of stupid to record. Basically anything like that is pubic record and subject to laws like archival and such. But then again Donald Trump is a special kind of stupid, soooo

Sox claim Alen Hanson
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) I'll go with this one. They currently have five outfielders, and I bet they want Engel to go back and get more PT. I don't think this is related to Alvarez, or Peter, though neither are exactly beating down the door anyway (though Alvarez has been improving). Engel does make the most sense. He has been playing the least.

Sox claim Alen Hanson
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Yep. Curious to see what the Sox do here. Could always just option Willy Garcia. Or Minaya. Or Infante. There are lots of options. A roster move does have to take place here for sure.

Sox claim Alen Hanson
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) Dont the Sox have the worst record in the AL? Meaning he got through the whole NL, but none of the AL. This is right. Not sure why I was thinking best to worst instead of worst to best.

Sox claim Alen Hanson
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Maybe not. Didn't realize he spent at year in on the big league club. So in order to get him to AAA, pretty sure Sox would have to expose him to waivers as well. All though to be fair, if the Sox won the claim, that means he got through the entire NL, plus almost all of the AL as well.

2017 Watercooler TV thread
QUOTE (juddling @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 06:02 PM) It says something for the quality of the show when you know he isn't gonna get caught switching the pills but still on the edge of your seat. The whole Nacho sequence was damn impressive. The actor playing Nacho has been wonderful. (He was also pretty good in Orphan Black too ) See that is the fun part. We don't actually KNOW if that is even what cripples him. We know that Mike and Gus are still gunning for him as well.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) "Does he have like a Cameron Maybin middle, ending up as a good fielder with huge Ks, but still a serviceable player?" Again, guys like that are "a dime, a dozen". Why waste a number 11 pick, on that? Guys that make the majors and become serviceable players are not a dime a dozen.

Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) Giolito is probably the one out of that group who wouldn't get the call, as I think they want him continuing to refine his mechanics at the minor league level. All the same, young pitchers struggle, and bad pitchers struggle too. Some of those guys will be up against their inning limits, so it might be best to run with AAAA pitchers like Pelfrey and Parnell to eat innings too. That's a good call. With mechanics and confidence issues being his primary work right now, I don't think you want to push him up before he is ready. He may well be a September call.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) Interesting. Please elaborate. Cable and related platforms are hemorrhaging viewers right now. In recent years sports being able to bring in extremely high levels of live viewing, which also means commercial watching, have been getting really big prices for television contracts with baseball teams. With the loss of viewers and revenue in general, but also the ability to watch sports over multiple platforms, such as your PC or phone, I really suspect that the days of these huge deals is getting limited. Even teams like the Yankees and Dodgers have had huge fights with individual providers to get their networks on the air fully in their markets, and those teams are the gold standard of baseball. Nothing to base it on other than a feeling, but I really think the nine figure per season deals are going to be a dinosaur soon.

6/8 Games
QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 08:43 AM) Shields went 5 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, no walks, 5 ks. 72 pitches I'm guessing that is his last rehab start. I never really thought I would hear myself saying that the team needs him, but holy s*** do the White Sox need a guy who can pitch them 7 innings in a game.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) After the lessons of the ESPN bloodbath, is the new network still estimated to approach the enormous TV contracts of the last decade? I hate to say this knowing the Sox are coming up for a deal in 2019, but I really get the feeling that with cord cutting, the TV bubble is about to burst on pro sports.

The mystery of Shohei Otani...Padres/Dodgers/Cubs
The Cubs need starting pitch badly over the medium and long term. I would imagine they will get pretty creative with off of the field deals, such as endorsements etc to try to get this guy to the north side.

Renteria is a horrible in-game manager
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 05:12 PM) I think we've gotten to the point analytically where it's probably fair to say the impact these managers have on the psyches of their players, something which is entirely immeasurable, is probably far greater than the in-game strategy maneuvers. This is such an underrated and immeasurable part of the game. So few people talk about it.
