Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) After the draft, hopefully there will be some activity on our rental starters (Gonzalez, Holland) and maybe some of the relievers. I bet the market is more fluid for the relievers, as the prices won't be as high.

Todd Frazier, at what point?
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 07:43 AM) I doubt the White Sox will trade for Chris Sale. But if you are comparing Swarzak's career to Sale's you may believe that. The idea that one outing is going to change everything for a team is silly. That was my point.

Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) I maintain that there is no reason for us to root for losses, the losses will come. If anything, this season just proves how much easier it is to over achieve when you have a good bullpen. Let's make sure we have some good power arms for the pen when we get good as a team. It is now June. Realistically there will start to be some trades happening in the next few weeks or so, and then the pace will quicken. As that starts to happen, I think you will start to see the first of the next wave start to arrive on the southside, and the losses will start to come a little more often.

6/1 Games
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 09:14 AM) I am super pumped for him, I am not discounting what he's doing now, just saying it came at the right time, where i was just about to give up on him in aprila fter another sluggish start. Sure. It kind of reminds me a lot of Avi's situation. You have rookies coming up who are as old, or older than he is, yet he has been in the majors for parts of five seasons. Adolfo got pushed into rookie ball at 17 and has been around for parts of four season now. Seems like he has been here forever. Realistically, if he had graduated HS and was at this level at 20 years old, he would just now be around level/age appropriate.

6/1 Games
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) Yeah it's down to 28% which is trending correctly. If he can get to sub 25% by the half season mark that would be a huge boost. What a nice surprise, I was at point where I just didn't acre for the "he's still young" excuse after so little production his first 4 years. But, goes to show that development is not a linear path. He is still only 20. He turns 21 in September.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20170601 Adolfo hr Micker has his batting average over .290, and his OPS over 800. That OPS is almost 200 points higher than when he was at Kanny last year. His K rate is still up there, but he only has 4 over his last 20 ABs so maybe that is even coming around with some confidence? We can hope.

Draft Prospect Preview: Jordon Adell
QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 05:02 PM) Did they really develope him? Anderson is an ok player because he is a shortstop but his plate discipline and contact is still not good. I think nobody has something against athletic players the problem is raw players with flaws. Btw the cubs weren't great at developing those players either but they got a lot of very polished players. Btw im not totally against addell he has some plate discipline issues but the swing itself is pretty solid. Tim Anderson was extremely raw when the White Sox got ahold of him. Today is raw. He was a terrible defensive SS when they drafted him. Many wondered if he could stick at SS, and if he would be a 2B or an OF when all was said and done. The fact that he is a productive major leaguer is a HUGE win for the White Sox drafting and development team.

Todd Frazier, at what point?
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) I am not saying the Sox should not try to sell off whatever they can at the deadline. I just do not think that we will be able to actually move nine players off of our 25 man roster by the deadline. Holland, Robertson, Swarzak, Melky, Frazier, Gonzalez, etc. should all be on the block. Holland, Robertson and Swarzak have so far played well enough to likely have decent value. I think almost all will be gone, it probably won't be in bunches though. So far Hahn seems to want to avoid bundling players.

Hawk to retire at the end of 2018 season
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) This is a good point but one that I think will come in time as he 'shakes off' his ESPN persona and becomes more and more the "White Sox announcer." You mention Foley and Eddie O and that's an excellent comparison. But remember they have been working together as a team for many years...chemistry takes time (and sometimes it just doesn't happen see Harry Caray and J.C. Martin) and Foley and Ed have a way of getting their point across about bad play, bad officiating, bad luck without making themselves look petty or bringing down the wrath of the commissioner (as what happened when Hawk had his comments in Tampa and got Selig and JR involved to the point where he was called out on it) That style takes time to flourish too. I think it with come with Jason. If not, if five years or so, probably under new ownership, changes will be made again in the booth. Pat Foley has a lot of Hawk in him. He will not hesitate to bring down the thunder on someone or something. He has unloaded on players, teams, officials, and the league at different times. Eddie is much more PC, as he is still a national announcer too at times, but Foley will absolutely let loose if he feels it is warranted. You want a great example, google his rant on late Chicago start times. That even got Gary Bettman involved. The Alexander Karpotsev rant is still legendary.

2017 Minor League Catch-All thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) https://sports.yahoo.com/news/prospect-heat...-182454119.html Vlad Guerrero Jr will be top prospect in baseball by end of the year...according to two scouts. Passan article DSL White Sox start season Saturday, Monday-Friday next week http://www.milb.com/schedule/results.jsp?cid=633 I wonder who from the Class of 2016 will start down there? Any word on guys like Guerrero and Mises? Are they in Arizona?

Todd Frazier, at what point?
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) You're suggesting that we trade 9 mlb players off of our 25 man roster at the deadline? That is definitely not going to happen, we still need to field a team. Keep in mind that teams would have to make corresponding roster moves in order to absorb 3 MLB players in one trade. Any person with an expiring contract and control should be off of this roster by August 1, 2017. Absolutely no exceptions. I don't care what it does to our major league roster, they are on a clearance sale as far as I am concerned.

Hawk to retire at the end of 2018 season
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) I'm not a huge Benetti fan. He's okay, but it won't be the same as the ol' Hawkeroo. After next year we will never have the great calls that we remember years later. "Joe! Crede!" "Come on Timo" "Call your sons, call your daughters, call your friends, call your neighbors, Mark Buehrle has a perfect game going into the 9th" "Alexei?! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!" And a million others. When is a Benetti walk off call going to stick in your head for years? Hawk called the game the same as we watched it as fans and that's what I love about him. When is Benetti going to take the s***ty sportswriters to task? When is Benetti going to call out the bulls*** umps try to pull. Sure it's not always professional but it draws attention to the problem. Hawk also came up with some of great nicknames in the game. Those things are gone once you go to your cookie cutter professional announcer. My entire fault with Jason is that there is no level of excitement. There is nothing that separates him from any national announcer who could be covering a game. There should be some level of excitement and joy to be had from the White Sox doing well, from the announcers that are being covered to cover the White Sox. I know the knock on Hawk is "homer" to some extent, but I can't think of a better broadcast team out there than Pat Foley and Eddie O for the Hawks. They live and die with the Hawks, and I love it. That is what I want on my home town call. That is my favorite thing about Hawk. He is a Sox fan, with a Sox fan point of view, giving the game to other Sox fans. I have yet to get that vibe from Benetti despite the effort to sell him otherwise.

Todd Frazier, at what point?
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) Doubt Boston wants Swarzak after they crushed him the other night and they won't want Sanchez. But they might want Jones if he comes back strong. But Frazier and Jones won't get Groome. Might get Brian Johnson and a high rated A prospect. Would the Sox want Sale after they crushed him the other night?

Putnam to DL
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Beck is 18/5 K/BB in 19 innings with a 2.84 ERA and a 17.6 HR/FB%. Sox shining some turds this year. And he has gotten some heavy usage too. I have been impressed so far this year.

Todd Frazier, at what point?
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Yes. He is not one they really need to hold on to. Unlike the Quintana situation, you take whatever you can get for Frazier. This. The first offer of any consequence he needs to be gone. While I don't hold a lot of hope for Davidson as an everyday player, he has earned a shot at least for now. Take the first B prospect you can get, if not get a couple of C's and move on

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) I like Russell too, but I am not sure he will become the best ss in the City. That would be a great discussion topic to be honest. I would probably go with Russell, but not by a ton. I think TA will be a better hitter, but Russell is going to be a 70 or more SS defensively.

Just Sayin: 17-13 Against The Division
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) Just sayin... 7-15 outside the division. 12-17 on the road. 15 of the next 19 games are on the road. Probably will be good and buried by the break. The against RHP vs LHP split is also very drastic.

Hawk to retire at the end of 2018 season
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) Jason just needs to announce like he does college football and basketball games. By that I mean less cornball jokes and more focus on the game. I understand the pace of baseball, over 162 games, leads to a lot of small talk, but at least try and keep the cornball humor down to a reasonable level. An example to follow is Darrin Jackson, who certainly has his oddball moments but in recent years has cut down. I've become a pretty big fan of Jackson and Farmer, they compliment each other well. I listen to them a lot. Jackson has really started to take the crabby old man thing off of Farmer.

Hawk to retire at the end of 2018 season
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) Geez! What the heck is going on around here! I must be losing my touch. The next thing you know, SS2K5 will also be "agreeing with me on this topic", and then the world will really be turned upside down!! Way ahead of you. Always been a fan of Hawk and his style. Very sad to see him go.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) I think it's fair to mention just how young some of these guys are too. They're really a victim of their own success(es) right now. Russell may never be a super star but he's still only 23. Maybe Schwarber is going to be a complete bust but he also just turned 24 and missed a whole season due to injury. I honestly don't believe this year's Cubs team is all that great because their pitching is super mediocre in my mind but if I had to guess, I'd bet Russell and Schwarber will be just fine in the long run. Call me crazy, but I would drive to Wrigley Field to bring either guy back to the south side.

5/31 Games
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 08:08 AM) That may have simply been some bad luck. He didn't give up any HRs (he has given up a lot prior to his no-hitter), which may be a sign most of them weren't hard hit balls. From what I've seen, fastball command has been his issue, so seeing no walks and 2/3 of his pitches being thrown for strikes is a plus for me. He's got to learn to trust/repeat his mechanics first before I worry about anything else. And in that sense, controlling the strike zone and not giving up gopher balls when he falls behind is a promising start. This. For some guys you can look at the micro and it holds value. For a guy in Giolito's situation where he is getting rebuilt from the ground up, and having confidence problems, the gory details aren't as important as the big picture. Control is issue #1.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Yeah it's just that he's such an outlier. Every fast singles-hitting outfielder isn't tagged with an ichiro comp, but every low-power, good defensive 1b gets hit with an Olerud comp. But Olerud was an offensive force even without power. Mostly because there aren't a lot of guys who compare to with that skill set. It is one of those things where if your 1B has that skill set, you are looking for a 1B that first the more traditional mold.

Todd Frazier, at what point?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) It was good that Frazier hit a bomb off of Sale, and you know Sale will vouch for him as well. It is a virtual certainty in my mind that he ends up with Boston. There keeps being a decent amount of smoke there.
