  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 30, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) You fundamentally misunderstand my argument. I, too, am fighting for equal opportunity. That does not currently exist in America for the vast majority of marginalized communities. By marginalizing them as not being able to succeed without your help. How kind.

  3. QUOTE (Brian @ May 30, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) I didn't mean anyone here. I see it could be taken that way when I quote someone. I see people on Twitter and FB laughing and making jokes. That's all Here you go. 670 The Score‏Verified account @670TheScore 24m24 minutes ago What's sadder than Tiger Woods is taking pleasure in his downfall, writes @TimBaffoe http://cbsloc.al/2r84vgY

  5. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 30, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) Hey guys, do you have any idea what the Sox' plan is for Lopez? I don't think he has much left to learn at AAA and would be best served up in Chicago mid-summer taking his lumps. When is his super 2 deadline, middle of June right? Super 2 is typically the middle of June for someone with no ML service time. You'd have to add on his service time from last year to that middle of june date.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 30, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) "I can confirm that Carlos is alive. He still has two arms." "mostly"

  9. One thing I think we can take from the season so far is that the AL Central is pretty bad. We have done very well against it, but pretty badly against the rest of baseball.
  10. Getting past the bunting thing, I think the primary mention has to be how many players who were mediocre to bad under Ventura, who are seemingly having breakout seasons under Ricky. A lot of guys have made some major progress, at least through the first two months of the season, and not nearly as many have regressed. Avi, Davidson, Yolmer, Leury, Kahnle, Beck, Swarzak, and Holberg at least are all off to great starts from the younger group. Depending on how much credit/blame you give to a manager, there are some things to look up at.
  11. Really sending good vibes towards Hickman. Hopefully the TJS doesn't set him back and he can show some of that potential soon.
  12. Danny Duffy out 6-8 weeks with oblique injury https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/05/dann...que-strain.html
  13. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ May 29, 2017 -> 08:38 PM) Of course he is, but it may be too late. Time will tell if he is able to succeed with that approach. I don't have a lot of faith the guy will succeed, but pre-swing hand position isn't why. Plenty of guys have done it all through baseball history.
  14. When he starts his swing he is in the loaded position.
  15. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ May 29, 2017 -> 07:06 PM) if you watch the video you can see this is not the case. pause it immediately after the video starts, the pitch is out of the pitchers hand and his hands are still up high. http://m.mlb.com/video/v1434772183/detcws-...ossed-in-stands Looks fine to me.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 29, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) Evan Longoria and Wil Myers have both been pretty successful with high batting stances. That Jose Bautista guy too Realistically it doesn't matter where his hands are pre-pitch. As soon as the pitcher comes set, his hands drop into the loaded position anyway.
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 29, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) I might understand your stance if Avi was, let's say, hitting .270 with half the HR's and RBI's and being really bad in the OF but his OPS+ is 156 which is really really good and his current bWAR is 2.2. I think it is very difficult to improve that dramatically over a 2 month period. His numbers will drop , it's inevitable ,but as far as being a DFA type player , he is way past that. I don't think he is a DFA player. But if you give me Kyle Schwarber for him, I would take it in a nanosecond.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 28, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) yea and he was usually young for his age, certainly a interesting player now that he's hitting in MLB. He was no exception at being young for his first call ups either.
  19. I am really curious to see the Sox reaction towards Sale, and Sale's reaction towards the Sox. It wouldn't shock me if he were angry/bitter towards some people, because he is that kind of temperamental and petty. I kind of expect someone to get beaned.
  20. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 28, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) good topic, I voted Sanchez, just because if he hits much, his defense is very good, near elite possibly. Sanchez is also a guy who had some decent success in the minors as well. He always hit for good average once he learned a level.
  21. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 28, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) What does that have to do with where he plays baseball or tiddlywinks or anything else. If they pay him over there, he probably gets taxed over there, at least to some extant. He is a 19 year old super jock, turning 20 in August, and he hasn't played baseball all year. Or has he? At least get him down to AZ. Get him into some competitive atmosphere where he can play the game. That is a four million dollar difference for a guy who probably won't see a million dollars in a season for something like 5 or 6 years, if everything goes right. I sure wouldn't be in the business of pissing away $4 million. And if starting him in the DR this year is what it took to sign him, kudos to Rick and company for being willing to be creative to get a deal done. Think of it this way, if another team had offered him $30 million, but wanted to start him in the US, the Sox offer of $26 million and being willing to start him in the DR actually was a bigger cash offer to Robert.
  22. QUOTE (Special K @ May 28, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Yeah but what about for Schwarber like you said above. Absolutely.
  23. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ May 28, 2017 -> 05:25 AM) witesoxfan post Apr 18, 2017 -> 03:39 PM I would trade Garcia to the Cubs for Schwarber so fast it would make your head spin. ----------- Rowand44 post Apr 18, 2017 -> 06:02 PM Schwarber has outproduced Avi at every level and when I say outproduced, he's destroyed his numbers at every level, he's about 2 years younger, is under contract for a few more years but you wouldn't trade Avi for Kyle because you think he's fat. Got it. ---------- southsider2k5 post Apr 19, 2017 -> 09:59 AM Wow. Apparently the heroin epidemic has hit Soxtalk. Extending Avi? Trading Avi for Schwarber? Step one is admitting you have a problem. Get help. ----------------------- Oh yea, Schwarber is great and anyone suggesting that Avi is as good or better is on heroine and should get help. Well, Schwarber was just demoted to a platoon role since he is batting .147, yes a dollar forty-seven against LH pitching and well under .200 against RH pitching. Avi looks like he is on a different path, improving offensively and defensively this season. For the record, I would still trade drive Avi to Wrigley. I am not about to let a two month sample size change that.
  24. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 26, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Son of a b****. I was so looking forward to sitting at the bar and watching 6+ hours of baseball tonight. It will be raining at the ballpark very soon, and for quite a while.
  25. Game one has been pushed to Sat, they are still going to try to play one game today.
