  4. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Definitely something to keep in mind when thinking about the Sox supposed interest in Jeren Kendall. To be fair, for everyone who wants to look at Courtney Hawkins, it would be just as easy to look at Tim Anderson.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Does any of it matter? In the 21st century? Not really. If you are aligned with a political party, you know you have a minimum of 35 to 40% of the country that will make excuses for you, no matter what. Party has become more important than honest, integrity or anything else to the vast majority of voters.

  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) Yup, totally agree. Just unlikely to get that offer until he demonstrates that type of ability over a full season. The odds today are near zero of that happening. He has to come back and pitch near his potential for that to even have a chance.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 07:54 AM) I think you have to be open to trading him if he won't consider an extension, but you need to wait until he establishes himself as a legit TOR starter and one capable of being that over the course of the full season. We still have control over him for another four seasons, so there's absolutely no reason to rush into trading him. His value can still expotentially improve with one dominant season. If you get an offer for a #1 or 2 starter for Rodon, you move him. If not, you move forward with him.
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) I think the lack of quality starts has been an issue with this team since opening day. Too many 4-5,inning efforts. But, generally the relief guys seem limited to one inning and I just don't think that is overworking someone. But that's just me Lack of quality starts tends to happen when you lack healthy and quality starters.

I know that OSU has more money than almost every athletic department in the country, but LOL. My wish includes a winning powerball ticket. I wonder who has better odds?
  16. The Sox need healthy arms badly right now. Their bullpen is just toast right now with the fall off in quality starts as of late.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) 4/11: Robertson had pitched an inning two days prior, 4/9. Swarzak was fresh and unused all season. Kahnle had pitched an inning on 4/6 and another on 4/7, so he was fresh too. Ynoa had pitched two innings on 4/6. Yeah, I'm standing by this one, all three of those guys were viable. 5/16: Robertson had pitched an inning on 5/11 and 5/13. Swarzak pitched 1.2 innings on 5/13 and 1.1 innings on 5/15. Ynoa had pitched 2 innings on 5/12 and 1 inning on 5/14. Theoretically, he should've been good to go. Holmberg had pitched 0.2 innings on 5/12 and 1 inning on 5/14. Probably was available as well. For this game, the only viable options were Ynoa and Holmberg, and I think we could've used one of them before going to Robertson. On April 11th all three of Kahnle, Ynoa, and Swarzak still hadn't proven they could be trusted at all and were basically considered garbage pitchers based on their previous seasons.
  18. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Source: RHP Bobby Parnell to #WhiteSox on minor-league deal. Lord knows we need some fresh arms desperately.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) April 11 was the sixth game of the year. Robertson had pitched once. You don't know when the next save situation will be, the guy has to get some work. It was a tie game in the 9th, that's as high leverage as it gets too. Looking backwards in the May situation, Robertson hadn't pitched since the 13th. The Sox were also without Putnam, Jones, and Petricka by that point. All other relievers except Ynoa had pitched at least twice in the span of the 13th to the 15th.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) On 4/11, which was the first game after an off-day, we had used Jennings, Putnam, and Jones (for one inning, he was the pitcher right before Robertson in the 9th). I believe that means we had Swarzak, Kahnle, and Ynoa. On 5/16, which was the bottom of the 10th in a tie game, we had used Infante, Beck, Jennings, and Kahnle (for one inning, he pitched right before Robertson). That leaves Swarzak, Ynoa, and Holmberg. And when was the last time Robertson had thrown in each of those, along with what were the IP loads of the set up guys prior to that?
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) I also hate questions like these because we had a run of 20+ games with only 1 day off and I'm assuming Renteria and Coop get days where they know some pitchers need a rest that we aren't privvy to. I'm not saying nobody can criticize the manager, but I really like how Renteria has tried to prevent 3rd time through order for some of our weaker pitchers, but you then get into scenarios where you wear down some guys and pitchers have to pitch out of roles. Not to mention if you only save your closer for save situations, they would pitch something like 45 or 50 times in a season on a team like this.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) So that may justify yesterday, but what about when the same thing happened on 4/11 and 5/16? Same questions apply. Who is available?
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) I agree with the earlier point...the guy has to pitch once in awhile, right? And who else? I mean typically that is something you can use you top set up guys to do. You don't have Nate Jones. You don't have Zach Putnam. You don't have Jake Petricka. Going down the line, you can see who they used already in this game, who else had logged extensive innings in recent games. I am not seeing who else you use in that game, in that situation besides Robertson.
  24. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 07:00 AM) Their 2020 TV deal will allow them to print money for the foreseeable future. We are talking probably in the range of $75 to $100 million for two players... per YEAR. I can't see any team being willing to tie up that much payroll into two players.
  25. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 4, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) I know that isn't as important now, but if he's still manager when we're trying to compete, it will be. First, there's the constant bunting. I'm not even going to elaborate much because you all know exactly what I'm talking about. Isn't it textbook insanity to do the same exact thing over and over, expecting different results, only for the same result to keep happening? I remember hearing that somewhere- whatever it is, Renteria is at that point with the bunting and the two-strike bunting (which is even worse- even a 5 year-old knows not to bunt with two strikes). There's the more minor issue of bullpen decisions. I know this may be more Cooper, but specifically, I'm referring to his use of Robertson in non-save situations, especially in extra-inning road games. What's the point of burning your closer in the bottom of the 9th inning in a tie game when you might need him to, I don't know, close the game later on? Not to mention Robertson tends to pitch poorly in non-save spots. This is something I haven't noticed as much, and it may be more on the coaching staff than on Rick, but there are times where we don't challenge a play that has indisputable evidence in our favor, even when we have an available challenge. For example, last weekend, Anderson was called out at first on a relatively close play, but upon watching the replay, there was clear, absolutely indisputable evidence showing that he was safe. The Sox did not challenge, to the surprise of Benetti and Stone. There's probably more that I'm missing, but can't think of at the moment- those are my biggest issues with him. It feels wrong to miss Ventura, but I, at times, do; I do, however, love how prepared and engaged our players are under Rick, which is an obvious improvement from Robin. Some of you may think that he'll cut out the bunting and improve overall once we try to compete, and I hope that's true, but I really don't know if that will happen. I just think that this is his managing style. The bullpen is fried. It has been toasted over the last couple of weeks by awful starting pitching. Realistically Robertson is the freshest guy out there. Go back and look at the IP for these guys lately. Our pen has logged more IP than our starters have for a while now.
